Chapter Fourteen: Menarche

Su Xun had something she found difficult to talk about with her mother; it was a period that every young girl goes through, filled with anxiety and shyness.

"Hey, Su Xun, did you bring that?" The female classmate in the back seat suddenly patted her shoulder gently and asked in a low voice, while glancing around to see if anyone was paying attention.

Su Xun was reciting her text, feeling drowsy, when she was suddenly startled by Liu Xiaobei patting her on the back of the desk. She turned around, but her mind was still foggy. "What...that?"

Seeing Su Xun's confused look, Liu Xiaobei seemed both annoyed and anxious, and whispered in Su Xun's ear, "It's that one."

Su Xun still looked confused, so the girl got impatient and went to find the students behind her.

Seeing the girl's flushed cheeks and her reluctance to move much, Su Xun finally understood what she meant by "that".

Every girl entering puberty will always have sanitary napkins on hand.

But this does not include Su Xun.

This was something that had been bothering Su Xun for a long time. After fifth grade, the physiology and health textbook simply stated that every girl would start menstruating at a certain age. This semester, when the biology class was teaching about the human body, the textbook wrote about this matter in great detail.

Seeing that her roommates had all gone through their first period and were growing taller, while she hadn't experienced any changes and her height hadn't changed at all, she began to suspect that there might be something wrong with her body.

But I was too embarrassed to ask.

The girls around her had developed some secret signals, and sometimes they would suddenly giggle. She felt like she was being ostracized in a "special" way.

It was already late May, and the weather was gradually getting warmer. The electric fans in the classrooms were already on, creaking overhead. Summer had begun in Huaicheng.

On Friday noon, after Tang Shi and Su Xun came out of the cafeteria, they went straight into the small supermarket across the street, picked up two boxes of ice cream, and gave one to Su Xun.

"How can anyone concentrate on studying in this weather?" He scooped up the pink paste with a small spoon and popped it into his mouth.

"Tang Shi, are you really studying? I don't quite believe it," Su Xun teased, raising an eyebrow, before scooping a large spoonful of ice cream into his mouth.

The cool, refreshing taste and the sweet aroma of strawberries burst in her mouth, it felt like summer. Su Xun squinted her eyes in enjoyment.

"Yes, I've been working really hard lately, and even my teacher praised me."

"But how come I saw you being called into Teacher Liu's office just a few days ago?" Su Xun continued in a strange tone.

Most of the teachers for Class 2 and Class 5 are the same.

"Fine, Su Xun, believe me or not, I'll sew your mouth shut."

"Ahhh, the female demon has finally made a move against Su Xun."

The sounds of two people playfully fighting echoed in the corridor outside the supermarket. In the usually crowded and noisy supermarket, it was not particularly noticeable and was quickly drowned out by the noise of the crowd.

The first class in the afternoon was our weekly physical education class. The fact that we didn't have to sit in the classroom made the students very excited, especially the boys. They brought out their basketballs early, and they could have free time after the class was dismissed.

The physical education classes in the first year of junior high were very simple. We just had to do some warm-up exercises and run two laps around the track, and then the teacher would dismiss us. There was no need to regroup. Many students didn't like to sweat, so they went back to the classroom as soon as we were dismissed.

Su Xun is that kind of person. She doesn't like sports and went back to the classroom early to sit down. In the past, she would go to the supermarket with her classmates to buy some snacks, but today she felt a little unwell.

She had a dull ache in her lower abdomen, but it wasn't severe. She figured she'd feel better after sitting for a while.

However, this situation has not only failed to improve, but has also shown a tendency to worsen.

When the homeroom teacher came to dismiss the class, Su Xun's face was already pale with pain.

With the announcement of school being over, the students, who had been suppressed for five days, flew out in groups, chattering excitedly, like birds released from their cages.

Su Xun wanted to take one last step before leaving, but suddenly felt a warm current flow through her body.

Something flashed through Su Xun's mind, and she suddenly understood. A suspicious blush appeared on her previously pale face, and she became even more afraid to move.

Pei Ke noticed something was wrong with her deskmate as soon as she returned to the classroom after playing ball. He kept clutching his stomach with his left hand, and his face was slowly turning pale. Even after school was over, he showed no signs of moving.

As the classroom gradually emptied out to just the two of them, he tapped on the desk in front of Su Xun. "Su Xun, are you feeling unwell? Should we go to the infirmary?" His eyes were filled with worry.

The sound of knocking on the table brought Su Xun back to reality. She glanced at Pei Ke, thought for a moment, and since she couldn't move, she could only stammer out her situation. This time, a blush had crept up to the tips of her ears.

Pei Ke suddenly seemed to understand something, his expression turned strange, and then he ran out, leaving behind the words, "Don't move, wait for me to come back."

The school's convenience store should still be open, as it's a bit quiet since it's Friday after school.

Pei Ke walked directly to the back shelf of the supermarket, which was filled with women's products. Looking at the various brands and types, he suppressed his strange feelings and read the instructions on the packaging.

When he paid the bill, the auntie gave him a strange look, and after he left, she sighed, "These young men nowadays don't listen to their teachers. I told them not to date so early, but they still secretly find girlfriends." She sounded quite disappointed in him.

Pei Ke, who had just stepped out the door, obviously heard it, paused, and ran back to the classroom.

Su Xun remained seated without moving, only breathing a sigh of relief when Pei Ke returned.

An arm reached out in front of me, and below it was a fair hand with long, slender fingers, each knuckle distinct, holding a pink package.

Upon seeing what it was, Su Xun's body stiffened instantly, a wave of shame surging from the depths of his heart to the top of his head.

"Take this, you'll find it useful." His tone and expression were natural.

Su Xun took it and ran to the bathroom as if fleeing.

Pei Ke, who was still standing there, breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, she had rehearsed in her mind several times how to give this thing to her so that the young master Pei would not lose face.

Before leaving the school, Pei Ke handed Su Xun his school uniform jacket. Su Xun understood what he meant. Fortunately, he had already overcome his shame and was now back to normal.

The two walked to the station together, the afterglow of the setting sun casting long, long shadows of them.
