"Su Xun, what are your plans for summer vacation?" Pu Xiaochuan came to find Su Xun during break. He leaned on Su Xun's desk, but then seemed uncomfortable and moved to Pei Ke's chair next to him, since Pei Ke wasn't there anyway.
"Hmm, no idea."
"Let's go out and have some fun," Pu Xiaochuan said with great interest.
"Where should we go?" Su Xun asked. "Going on a long trip is definitely not an option."
"No, I was planning to go hiking with you guys, to Yanshan Mountain in the north of the city. My mom said it was recently renovated and a small amusement park was built on the back of the mountain. It's very close, and we can take the bus there."
Huaicheng is located in the hilly area of the south and was built against the mountains. There is a mountain called Yanshan in the north of the city. It is not high and is the perfect place to exercise on weekends.
"Hmm, I think that's a good idea."
"Then remember to tell Tang Shi that it'll be more lively with more people." Pu Xiaochuan immediately put on a bright smile when he saw that Tang Shi had agreed.
"Why don't you go and talk to her yourself? Didn't you suggest going hiking?" Su Xun sensed something unusual.
Pu Xiaochuan scratched his head, hesitated for a moment, but finally spoke.
"Well, actually, I made her angry a couple of days ago, and she's been ignoring me ever since."
"Hmm? What did you do to upset her again?" Judging from the way Pu Xiaochuan and Tang Shi get along, it was bound to turn out like this sooner or later.
Pu Xiaochuan honestly recounted what had happened a few days prior.
Tang Shi is the publicity committee member of Class 5, responsible for the class's blackboard newspaper. She is good at writing and works well with a classmate who is very good at drawing. Their blackboard newspaper is often awarded prizes.
The two of them were also in charge of the blackboard bulletin this time. At noon, Pu Xiaochuan delivered a book to Tang Shi on behalf of Su Xun and went to Tang Shi's class. He happened to run into the two of them drawing in the back. Pu Xiaochuan said sarcastically, "The drawing is so-so."
The boy who was drawing felt embarrassed and couldn't hold back, so he blurted out, "If you're so good, then you do it."
Pu Xiaochuan picked up a piece of chalk on the spot, wanting to show off his skills. Tang Shi knew that Pu Xiaochuan had been very talented in drawing since he was a child, and had seen his paintings, which were indeed better than the boy's. Not wanting to make a big fuss, she stopped Pu Xiaochuan.
Unexpectedly, Pu Xiaochuan seemed to have been provoked and insisted on competing. In the end, he won, but Tang Shi was so angry that she ignored him.
A strange thought flashed through Su Xun's mind, but before he could think about it deeply, he agreed to help him.
Why are boys these days so irritable, always getting into fights? Since starting junior high, she has heard about several incidents of students fighting in private. Although they all happened in regular classes, students are the most well-informed these days, and they find out about things faster than the teachers do.
Su Xun shook her head. No matter what, it had little to do with her. She didn't like to cause trouble.
Pei Ke returned not long after Pu Xiaochuan left.
"What did Teacher Shen want to talk to you about that took so long?"
"It's nothing, just about an English competition." Pei Ke didn't seem to want to talk about it and just replied casually.
"By the way, Pu Xiaochuan and I made plans to climb Yanshan Mountain during the holiday. You want to come along too?"
Su Xun had just thought about it and figured that Pu Xiaochuan probably wanted to take this mountain climb to reconcile with Tang Shi. She felt it would be awkward for her to be stuck in the middle while the two of them talked, so she thought of inviting another person. After all, Pu Xiaochuan had said that it would be more lively with more people.
"You and Pu Xiaochuan, just the two of you?" Pei Ke frowned slightly, but the frown quickly disappeared.
"Tang Shi is coming too, but I haven't told her yet. You should come too. We've been deskmates for so long, we're pretty close, it's not right for friends not to go out and have fun together."
I don't know what words pleased him, but the corners of his mouth turned up. "Alright, considering our many years of friendship, I'll reluctantly accept your invitation."
"Thank you, Young Master Pei, for taking the time out of your busy schedule to travel with us commoners." Su Xun echoed his words.
They'd known each other for a long time and had been deskmates for years, so there weren't many formalities between them, and they often joked around. Many classmates didn't know that Pei Ke loved to boast about himself, always referring to himself as "Young Master Pei" in front of Su Xun.
When you have something to look forward to, the days always seem to pass incredibly slowly; you can't wait for that day to arrive. After finishing the last two weeks of classes and getting through the final exams, the holiday has finally arrived.
Pei Ke's family lives in a newly developed villa area in the suburbs. The environment here is beautiful, and it is a certain distance from the city center, away from the noise of the city.
Since Pei Ke came to Rossi Middle School, he has rented a small apartment near the school for convenience in going to and from school. His family always felt that living with several classmates was too noisy and would affect his studies. His mother would come to visit him here whenever she had time.
Because it was summer vacation, Pei Ke went straight to the bus stop after leaving school and took the bus back to her old house.
After opening the door, Pei Ke changed her shoes in the entryway and heard her parents discussing something inside. She vaguely heard words like "Sanya" and "Japan".
"I'm back," Pei Ke greeted, just like he always does when he comes home.
Hearing her son's voice as he returned home, Ms. Lin excitedly stood up, "Xiao Ke is back!"
Pei's father, Pei Zhongyuan, sat on the sofa. He was around forty years old. His hair was neatly combed, and he looked very energetic.
After exchanging greetings, Pei Ke planned to go back to his room to put his bag away.
Seeing that her son was about to go upstairs, she quickly took the backpack from Pei Ke's hand, put it on the chair next to him, and then said, "Xiao Ke, your dad and I were just discussing whether to go to Sanya or Japan for the holiday. Which one do you think would be better?"
