A soft kiss came from the darkness, and above him, breathing gradually deepened and became more rapid.
Su Xun couldn't take it anymore, "Why are you doing this again?"
"You're the one who said you wanted a child." His voice was muffled and hoarse in the darkness.
"I swear to God, I never said anything like that from the beginning; I was just asking for your opinion."
However, he was quickly swept up in another wave of excitement and was speechless.
After a long while, a response came: "I want it, is that okay?"
The night is long, and dawn is still far away.
During her annual check-up, Su Xun was informed by her doctor that she was carrying a two-month-old baby.
She left the hospital and couldn't wait to tell everyone in her family and close friends the good news. A few days later, Su's mother and Pei's mother came together, bringing a lot of supplements. Everyone was extremely nervous.
Su Xun finally experienced firsthand the feeling Tang Shi had described—being treated like a fragile object by everyone—and was both amused and exasperated.
Pei Ke was the most nervous of them all.
He stared intently at his increasingly protruding belly, his brow furrowed. "Can a person's belly really stretch this big? Won't it explode?"
Su Xun: "......"
"Of course it will explode."
"Then what should I do? I think I'll have a family doctor come to our home to take care of us."
"There's no need for that. Just buy me some cakes to eat."
Since becoming pregnant, Su Xun has developed a particular craving for sweets. Every day, she asks someone to buy her bread, cakes, and the like. When she went for a check-up at the hospital, the doctor said that consuming too much sugar would have a negative impact on her health, so all the sweets at home were hidden away.
As expected, I was rejected again.
"No, you can't eat so many sweet things. How about I cut you some fruit? It's sweet too."
"improvise."
In April of the following year, Su Xun successfully gave birth to a soft-spoken baby girl at the hospital.
"Why is it so small?"
Pei Ke carefully held the baby in his arms, looking at her tiny body with curiosity. The little one was very fragile; even a slight pinch would leave a red mark on her skin.
"The little girl is so cute, it would be a disaster if she looked like my son."
Tang Shi stood to the side, smiling as she watched the baby. Cheche, who was already over a year old, seemed to know that the adults were talking about him, and he stretched out his chubby little paws to slap Tang Shi's face in dissatisfaction.
"Look at her, she's so small but she's so strong. She'll probably scare all the kids in the neighborhood away when she grows up."
The adults around were amused, glancing at the newborn girl every now and then, pinching her cheeks occasionally—a scene of pure happiness.
The little girl's name was Ningning. By the time she was five years old, she had already developed the features of a beauty, with her facial features combining the best features of both Su Xun and Pei Ke. She also had a cheerful personality and quickly became the most popular girl in the kindergarten.
"Ningning, this time I'll be the dad, and you can be the mom, okay?" A little boy in overalls looked at the pretty girl in front of him with a pleading expression.
"No, this is just playing house. I only want to be the dad," Ningning replied, pouting.
"You're always the dad and I'm the son. Can we switch roles? I want to be a dad too," the boy insisted.
"Then I'm not playing anymore. Find someone else to play house with."
"Alright then, I'll be the son one more time, just once."
The two people who came to pick up their daughter from school not far away looked at each other in silence.
Is it really okay for a daughter to want to be a father at such a young age?
"Did you teach Ningning?" Su Xun tugged at Pei Ke's sleeve.
It's quite bizarre that someone so young would be called "Dad."
“I didn’t teach her this,” he said casually, then added after a pause, “I only taught you.”
Su Xun: "......"
Soon, Ningning saw her parents who had come to pick her up not far away. She ran over excitedly and jumped into their arms, saying, "You're here!"
As the sun set, the shadows of the family of three stretched out long and thin.
