In February, Tang Shi gave birth to a baby boy, a fair-skinned and chubby little one.
"Do you think Cheche will grow up to be as fat as his dad?"
Tang Shi lay on the sofa, looking worriedly at the little boy in her arms, whose mouth was still stuffed with a pacifier.
Cheche was indeed heavier than average at birth, and she ate a lot, drinking milk almost constantly except when sleeping. Su Xun comforted her, "Really? Doesn't a baby eating a lot mean they're healthy?"
"Oh dear, do you know that children's organs are not fully developed yet, and their spleen and stomach functions are relatively weak, making them most prone to food stagnation."
"You seem to know quite a bit about childcare." Su Xun herself only had a superficial understanding of parenting knowledge.
Tang Shi explained, "During my pregnancy, I read a lot of books on this subject, and my mother-in-law also shared a lot of common knowledge with me."
During that time, her family kept a close eye on her, making sure she didn't fall or get tired. They arranged everything for her so she didn't have to worry about anything.
With plenty of time to spare, I picked out some books to read.
"You'll naturally learn about these things when you get pregnant," Tang Shi patted Su Xun's hand.
"Right, hahaha." Su Xun laughed a few times. She hadn't really thought much about having children.
Although they loved playing house with their friends when they were little, clearly distinguishing who was the mother and who was the child, they seemed to have a longing to become parents back then. However, as they grew up, they rarely thought about these things anymore.
However, she and Pei Ke have been married for two years and have always used contraception. They have never mentioned this topic before, and she has no such thoughts. She doesn't know what Pei Ke thinks.
That evening, when Su Xun returned home, she called out to Pei Ke, who was about to take a shower.
"What's wrong?"
"I went to see Cheche today."
Cheche? Pei Ke searched his memory and remembered that this was Tang Shi's child. He had even attended the child's 100-day celebration last time.
He nodded.
"Actually, I just wanted to ask you, have you ever had a moment when you wished for a little one to call you Dad?"
Su Xun slowly asked the question, his eyes fixed on Pei Ke's every expression.
Hearing a little guy call him "Dad" suddenly brought back some unpleasant memories, and his expression turned strange. He stiffly opened his mouth and said, "I think it's enough that you, the little guy, call me Dad."
After saying that, he rushed into the bathroom.
Seeing the person flee in disarray, Su Xun suddenly felt unhappy.
He seems a little resistant; this is unacceptable!
The bathroom door wasn't locked, and she barged in, saying, "No, you better explain yourself. Do you have a problem with me?"
Pei Ke had just turned on the shower when the door was suddenly pushed open. He quickly grabbed the large bath towel hanging beside him and wrapped it around himself, staring in astonishment at the person in the doorway, a suspicious blush rising behind his ears.
Su Xun quickly walked up to Pei Ke and said, "If you have a problem with me, then don't even think about taking a bath."
The ground was covered with water droplets from the spill. Su Xun was wearing slippers and was taking large steps. She slipped on the water and fell forward.
Pei Ke quickly stepped forward to support the person who was about to fall and pulled her back.
Su Xun was startled by the sudden slip of her foot. At that moment, a pair of strong arms encircled her, and her head bumped into a hard chest.
"Be careful." Warm breath landed on her head.
"I don't have any problem with you, it's my own fault."
He explained in a low, hoarse voice.
“You wouldn’t…” Su Xun suddenly realized what Pei Ke was saying and looked up at him in surprise.
"Shut up, it's not what you think."
Pei Ke looked at Su Xun's pitying eyes and cursed inwardly.
Everything that happened afterward seemed to be there to prove something.
A layer of steam rose in the bathroom, blurring the glass, and the loud splashing of water lasted for a long time before subsiding.
The two lay back down on the bed. Pei Ke turned off the nightlight next to them, lay down, pulled the other person into his arms, and gently kissed the forehead of the person in his arms.
Are you asleep?
"Not yet," Su Xun replied lazily. She was very tired, but her mind was clear.
“Actually, I…” Pei Ke told Su Xun about a dream he had many years ago, a nightmare that had terrified him so much that he broke out in a cold sweat in the middle of the night.
After hearing the whole story, Su Xun laughed so hard he could hardly breathe. "So that's why you were acting so strangely that night. You sent me WeChat messages at three in the morning, then deleted them. There were so many messages."
She suddenly remembered the retracted messages she had seen one morning, and the confusion she felt then vanished.
"Stop laughing." Pei Ke nudged Su Xun, who was still laughing.
"No, why would you have that dream that day?"
Pei Ke pursed her lips. "You mentioned the child during the day."
"And then you overthought it, didn't you?" Su Xun suddenly sat up, suppressing a laugh as she looked at the person who looked sullen.
He turned his head away somewhat embarrassedly, and after a long while, he slowly nodded.
"Pei Xiaoke, could you be any cuter?"
Su Xun reached out and covered Pei Ke's face with his hand. It felt so good that he couldn't help but rub it a few more times.
"No, that's too cute, that's the limit." He rolled over, covered his head with the blanket, and muffledly said from under the covers, "Go to sleep."
Looks like she's shy again.
Su Xun stopped bothering him and lay down again. As soon as she got into bed, a pair of hands climbed up her waist from behind and pulled her back.
