Chapter 27
The four escaped from the deep sea and immediately rode back to the city.
Dongfang Jin carefully placed Jing Tao on the bed, and Ren Dong immediately kicked them both out and undressed Jing Tao to check her.
Although there was a wound to her heart, it was fortunately not deep. After checking Jing Tao's pulse, it was indeed as the monster had said, that there was no fatal wound. Ren Dong breathed a long sigh of relief, took out some Panax notoginseng from her luggage, ground it into a fine powder, applied it to Jing Tao's wound, bandaged it with gauze, and then left the room.
As soon as Su Mu and Dongfang Jin saw Ren Dong come out, they immediately went up to ask her questions.
"Don't worry, don't worry, Jing Tao is fine. The bleeding has stopped. With her health, she'll be alright after a few days of rest. I'll go and prepare her medicine now."
The two were relieved after hearing this, but Dongfang Jin still didn't give Su Mu a good look, rolled her eyes at him, and went into the room to see Jing Tao.
Su Mu knew he had let Jing Tao down, so he could only silently stand guard at the door.
An hour later, Ren Dong returned with the medicine. Su Mu immediately opened the door for Ren Dong, who went inside, handed the medicine to Dongfang Jin, and then came out.
Honeysuckle closed the door and pulled Su Mu aside, saying, "Don't blame yourself, Xiao Tao won't blame you."
These words clearly did not comfort Su Mu: "Because she didn't know I was the one who put her in this danger. If I had discussed it with you, perhaps the consequences wouldn't have been so bad."
Even if you tell us you want to take this sword, and we disagree, Xiaotao will still go with you.
Su Mu looked at the sword in his hand, then at Ren Dong, and said, "From now on, I will protect you and Jing Tao. I will never let you be in danger again."
Honeysuckle smiled and said to Su Mu, "Then you'd better keep your word."
The three took turns looking after Jing Tao, and she woke up a day later.
Dongfang Jin immediately woke everyone up, and Ren Dong immediately started asking Jing Tao about her well-being. Although Jing Tao didn't answer a word, she knew they were concerned about her.
Su Mu ordered all the dishes in the inn. Jing Tao ate two more bowls of rice than usual this time, and even when Jing Tao directly ate Dongfang Jin's rice, Dongfang Jin did not stop her.
For Jing Tao's health, the three decided to stay for two more days, and during those two days, they accompanied Jing Tao every day, buying her delicious food.
Three days later, the four set off on time.
After two more days of living outdoors, the four of them went to sleep as usual. Tonight, Dongfang Jin was on night watch.
The bright moon hung in the sky. Although there were no monsters attacking, a sneaky figure quietly approached the four of them.
Although Dongfang Jin was asleep leaning against the tree, even the slightest noise was enough to wake him up.
Dongfang Jin half-opened one eye and saw a small figure secretly rummaging through the honeysuckle's package.
Dongfang Jin quietly drew her sword and placed it against the man's neck.
The man was startled and dropped the medicinal herbs in his hand. He immediately knelt down and kowtowed, saying, "I'm so sorry, I'll never do it again."
The other three were awakened by the noise.
As the dark clouds gradually dispersed, the group discovered the thief's true appearance by the moonlight.
Although the person was in human form, he had a long tail trailing behind him. Dongfang Jin told him to turn around, and everyone was surprised to find that the person had a pair of rat ears!
"What is this?" Honeysuckle asked in confusion.
Upon seeing that although the person was in human form, his physical characteristics were those of a demon, Su Mu immediately drew his sword and stabbed him.
The thief, realizing he was about to be killed, immediately fled and then kowtowed to them, saying, "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry."
Su Mu didn't care about any of that and struck another vital point with his sword.
Jing Tao immediately drew her sword and blocked Su Mu's attack, standing in front of the thief.
"Jing Tao, what are you doing?" Su Mu quickly stopped.
The thief immediately ran away when he saw that someone was protecting him.
Su Mu immediately wanted to chase after her, but Jing Tao spread her arms and blocked his way.
"Jing Tao, get out of the way!" Su Mu said anxiously.
With a flick of her blade, Jing Tao scattered the campfire flames, blocking Su Mu's path, before running towards the thief.
Upon seeing this, Dongfang Jin immediately followed.
Seeing Jing Tao protecting the monster, Su Mu angrily exclaimed, "She actually protects a monster!"
Honeysuckle grabbed Su Mu's arm, who was trying to catch up, and said, "Xiao Tao must have her own reasons."
Su Mu shook off Ren Dong's hand. "Do you know how many people that monster has killed? Why would she protect it?"
"But that monster didn't intend to harm us."
"He's not hurting us now, but do you know that monster won't hurt anyone else in the future?"
Although Ren Dong wanted to speak up for Jing Tao, Su Mu's words were not without reason. A single monster was enough to wipe out an entire city. She wondered what Jing Tao was thinking.
The thief ran for his life, but he couldn't shake off Jing Tao who was right behind him.
Having no other choice, the thief had to turn back and kowtow to Jing Tao to apologize.
But Jing Tao squatted down and took out the peach blossom pastry that Dongfang Jin had bought for her from her bosom, and handed it to the thief.
The thief carefully opened the package Jing Tao handed him, only to find food inside!
The thief immediately ate a piece; it was delicious!
But after eating a piece, he hurriedly wrapped it up again and said to Jing Tao, "Are you a good person?"
Jing Tao blinked.
Can't you speak properly?
...
"Then come with me."
The thief grabbed Jing Tao's hand and ran away.
Not long after, the two arrived at a cave, and the thief immediately went in and helped the person lying inside up.
Jing Tao found a place to sit down and quietly watched the two of them.
"Brother, you're back."
The thief nodded and took out a peach blossom pastry from his pocket, feeding it to the man.
"Although I didn't manage to steal the medicine, that person gave me this. You can eat it first."
The man glanced at the peach, said thank you, and started eating.
Suddenly, it started raining outside the cave.
Footsteps echoed.
Dongfang Jin rushed in, clutching her head.
Why did it suddenly start raining?
Dongfang Jin entered the cave and stared at the three men, the scene quite awkward.
Seeing the thief eating the peach blossom pastry she had bought for Jing Tao, she was furious. "You little brat!" she said as she walked towards the man.
Jing Tao immediately stood up, drew her sword, and assumed a fighting stance to block Dongfang Jin.
Dongfang Jin looked at Jing Tao in front of her and then at the two people behind her.
"Alright, alright, I meant no harm," Dongfang Jin picked up her sword and threw it at Jing Tao's feet, then raised her hands. "Is this alright now?"
Seeing Dongfang Jin like this, Jing Tao sheathed her knife.
Dongfang Jin walked towards the two people and squatted down beside them. "You stole things just for her?"
Dongfang Jin looked at the little girl lying in the thief's arms; she was clearly sick.
The thief nodded. "I'm sorry, I just wanted to steal some medicine for my sister."
Dongfang Jin took out a money pouch from her bosom and pulled out a gold ingot. "Take this and buy some medicine."
But the thief shook his head. "It's no use. If I go to a human village, I'll definitely be driven out, and I might not even be able to save my life." The thief put his sister down and lifted his clothes, revealing that his body was covered with wounds, both new and old.
Looking at the wounds, Dongfang Jin couldn't help but gasp. "That's true, but are you two human or demon?"
"We are half-demons. Our father is a demon, and our mother is a human. We used to live in a place far away from human villages, but our mother is old and sick, so I went to the city to get medicine for her."
Even without him saying it, Dongfang Jin knew the outcome.
"Where's the nearest village? I'll go buy it for you."
The mouse stared in shock at the man before it, tears welling in its eyes. It burst into tears, crying, "You're the first person to have been so kind to us!"
Dongfang Jin looked speechlessly at the sobbing little mouse. "It wasn't me, it was her."
The mouse suddenly realized what was happening and looked at Jing Tao, saying, "Thank you."
...
"But why isn't she saying anything?"
"She hasn't been able to speak since we met her. She has no physical problems, so it's probably due to some other reason."
"Why can't she speak up even though she's a good person? Some able-bodied people try to kill us as soon as they see us, even though we haven't done anything wrong."
Dongfang Jin was also shocked that there could be a product of the union of humans and demons in this world, and that there were demons in this world that did not harm people.
