Chapter 6
Chapter Six
Guan Shiyun arrived at Wu Zhijie's location, wondering what might have happened. Was there a problem with the movie she had previously invested in, or some entertainment scandal, or perhaps some promising new project was in the works?
Upon entering the restaurant, I realized, "Oh, so he's still not giving up. He even dares to make an excuse to ask her out. Does he have to talk business in this kind of environment?"
With a 'thud,' golden ribbons cascaded down like a golden rain, and a piano performance began. Wu Zhijie slowly walked over, opened the red velvet box in his hand, and handed it to Guan Shiyun.
"Shiyun, happy birthday."
"Wow, I'm so lucky to be friends with you."
Lin Bei was in high spirits, snapping photos with her phone. She wouldn't have wanted to spend money at a restaurant like this. The ambiance was somewhat dim, with tables spaced far apart. Each table had a small, warm-colored moon-shaped lamp hanging from the ceiling, and the air was filled with the fragrance of flowers. Sitting by the window overlooking the night view, the feeling of being surrounded by the night sky was definitely worth the price.
"This place is perfect for taking photos and checking in! I need to take lots of pictures to make it worth the money!"
"Hmph, let me show you around first. What do you think of this place? Is it suitable for a date? If I invite President Guan here, would she like it?"
She'll be able to meet him tomorrow morning, but Li Miao isn't idle while waiting. She's preparing to pursue him. According to the pursuit strategies she found online, a romantic date is essential. First, she needs to choose a restaurant with a great atmosphere, bring Bei Bei there to check it out, and give her feedback to make sure it's perfect.
Whether Guan Shiyun will like it or not, Li Miao will soon have the answer.
Upon hearing the 'bang' sound, Lin Bei, who loves gossip, was the first to look in the direction of the sound, while Li Miao was still preoccupied with her date. Lin Bei did not turn around but asked the person behind her.
"Wow, look, isn't that General Manager Guan?"
Environment: 10/10; Atmosphere: 10/10; People: 0/10.
Through the falling golden rain, there was no romance to be felt. Guan Shiyun only had the urge to slap the man in front of her for wasting her time.
She didn't seem to care much about her birthday, and she sounded flustered as if something serious had happened. Calling her here for this was completely unnecessary. And what kind of gift is this? Is it a ring?
"You'd better have something important to tell me, as you said."
Guan Shiyun's patience had run out; meeting Wu Zhijie was purely accidental. She had started thinking about investing in film and television and began working on it. Wu Zhijie was introduced to her by someone else. She invested in that film mainly for a friend, and also to test the waters. Wu Zhijie was introduced to her through this friend, and she wanted to learn about the various aspects of the industry.
He's a highly capable platform producer who has also worked as an independent producer. Through him, she gained a general understanding of the most complex aspects of an entertainment product. Thinking there might be future collaborations, she kept in touch, initially for work purposes. However, his increasingly perplexing behavior, like what's happening now, has become more and more apparent.
Wu Zhijie hadn't expected Guan Shiyun to react this way. A birthday surprise—don't girls all like this kind of unexpected romance? He wanted to confess his feelings today, but he hadn't thought she would agree. He would take things slowly.
He's not some idle rich kid. Although he started out relying on his family, he's achieved some success in the industry. Guan Shiyun is beautiful, and in other aspects, they're a good match. Especially for a beautiful and wealthy woman like Guan Shiyun, without family constraints, if he could win her over…
Wu Zhijie lowered his head to hide the calculation in his eyes, pondering the reason. Perhaps he was too hasty. He believed that he had not been impolite in their past interactions. Compared to Guan Shiyun's flirtatious reputation and dissolute behavior, he did not mind. Had he not done enough?
"I'm sorry, Shiyun, I wanted to give you a surprise. I didn't think it through. I meant to..."
"What are you thinking? Do you want to pursue President Guan?"
As soon as the sound rang out, Guan Shiyun turned around and saw Li Miao. The person walking over was walking with hurried steps, and the dim light swayed with her steps, making it impossible to see her expression at that moment.
"What are you doing here?" Guan Shiyun wondered what mechanism had been triggered, how could a Li Miao randomly spawn anywhere?
"I'm scouting the location." After replying to Guan Shiyun, Li Miao looked at the man in the suit and tie.
"I'm asking you, what are you thinking? Do you want to pursue Boss Guan?" Huan Shiyun knocked his head off.
...Scouting out the location? Scouting what location? Is she planning to rob the restaurant?
Wu Zhijie looked up at the unfamiliar woman, a flash of amazement crossing his eyes. He quickly sized up her figure before lowering his head to conceal his expression, not wanting to show it in front of Guan Shiyun.
He raised his head and turned his gaze back to Guan Shiyun, speaking humbly and gently, with deep affection.
"Yes, I like Shiyun, I..."
"What do you mean 'you'? You've missed your chance, hurry up and leave."
Wu Zhijie frowned, still thinking of taking this opportunity to reiterate his feelings. His plans were interrupted by this woman. Seeing that the woman's gaze was fixed on him, he felt both smug and dissatisfied with her interruption. The important matter was still ahead.
"Miss, do we know each other? Today is Shiyun's birthday. I invited Shiyun here to celebrate her birthday and also to discuss some matters. If you are a friend of Mr. Guan, you can stay for a meal, and we can get to know each other. It's on me. If not, please leave."
These words were quite meaningful and full of implications, yet they were also subtly sarcastic, leaving no room for criticism.
However, Li Miao didn't care about any of that; she didn't understand!
She was only thinking that she hadn't even won someone over yet, and someone had already gotten there first, even snatching up the romantic restaurant she had chosen. It was so annoying, and all that poetry and poetry.
“If you want to make an appointment, I can too. If you’re not leaving, we’re leaving.” Li Miao pulled Guan Shiyun and started to leave.
"Li Miao, wait a moment." Guan Shiyun grasped Li Miao's hand in return, turned to look at the polite man, and decided to deal with this trouble first.
"First, I don't celebrate birthdays. Second, I have no plans to be in a relationship. Finally, this kind of scare, created by using lies to lure people out, is very uncomfortable. For any business in the future, please contact me through my secretary."
Guan Shiyun comes into contact with many people through her work, and there are quite a few people like Wu Zhijie who have the same thoughts, but there are really not many as clueless as him.
If she doesn't expose his little scheme, she can pretend not to know and just endure the disgust. What can she do? He doesn't even care about money or face anymore. All he can see is that she's a woman, not President Guan. There's no need to keep such a self-righteous fool around.
As soon as Li Miao finished speaking, she pulled Guan Shiyun away. Her earlier annoyance vanished instantly. Great, coming to scout things out today was definitely the right decision. Someone as diligent as her always brings unexpected surprises. But why isn't President Guan celebrating her birthday?
Turning to look at Guan Shiyun, and then thinking about herself, Li Miao thought, "If we don't celebrate, then we don't celebrate. It's really not that meaningful. But it's still necessary to eat something nice on my birthday." Putting aside her doubts, Li Miao became happy again.
"Mr. Guan, please eat with me. I won't be celebrating your birthday."
Li Miao pulled Guan Shiyun to the table she had reserved. Lin Bei watched from her seat as Li Miao brought Guan Shiyun over and said these words. She was so impressed that she wanted to give her sister a big thumbs up on the spot. Is this how people pursue each other?
Guan Shiyun listened with a sense of helplessness, having already experienced Li Miao's way of chatting before.
"Thank you, I was very touched that you didn't celebrate my birthday."
"Of course, why would I force you to do something you don't want to do?"
These words seemed to touch upon some inexplicable emotions in Guan Shiyun. Gazing at the girl who spoke, Guan Shiyun was somewhat lost in thought. She seemed to understand a little bit of the 'unexpected' actions that Li Miao had taken.
Li Miao thought her performance should earn her points; she was always accommodating and considerate! But turning rehearsals into actual combat, wouldn't it be a bit rudimentary? Li Miao looked around and thought, oh well, life is full of surprises, nothing can be perfect, but we must seize opportunities.
"Beibei, you should go home first."
Lin Bei: Discarding a donkey after it has served its purpose.
Guan Shiyun: An illusion; she doesn't understand.
Li Miao: Why are you all staring at her like that?
Seeing that Lin Bei was still in a daze, Li Miao quickly gave her a wink: Don't delay my date, I'm chasing someone!
Lin Bei, following Li Miao's signal, connected with the brainwaves sent by the other party.
"I have something to do at home, so I'll have to go now."
Guan Shiyun sat in her seat, quietly watching the two exchanging knowing glances. She felt helpless and amused. So, she had dodged one wave tonight, but couldn't escape this one? What did this birthday mean for her? It was her own fault for not leaving directly and instead coming with Li Miao.
"Sit down, let's have a meal together, just like a friends' get-together. My treat, okay?"
Lin Bei glanced at Li Miao, who nodded in acknowledgment.
A date can turn into a meal, but she has to pay. It's not like she's the one pursuing someone and Guan Shiyun has to pay for it. That doesn't fit the strategy for pursuing someone.
"No, I still have to treat you. Even though it's not a birthday celebration, it's still necessary to have a good meal on my birthday."
As Lin Bei listened to Li Miao continue speaking, she felt that she should have left earlier. Her sister's bizarre actions made her anxious, and no matter how delicious the meal was, it didn't taste good on the roller coaster.
Guan Shiyun, who was standing to the side, looked at Lin Bei, who was practically hiding her head under the table. After thinking for a moment, she took the initiative to strike up a conversation. "She must be Li Miao's friend, right? But is she out there scouting with her friend?" She then glanced at Li Miao again.
"Hello, I am Guan Shiyun."
"Hello, I'm Lin Bei, and I'm Li Miao's friend."
Li Miao watched as Guan Shiyun proactively introduced herself to Lin Bei and even glanced at her. Hmm? Why wasn't she receiving this treatment when it was their first meeting? Was Guan Shiyun implying that she hadn't done something right?
"Why didn't you introduce yourself to me when we first met?"
Li Miao felt it was very necessary to find out the reason, while Lin Bei just wanted to stay under the table for a while, for no particular reason, simply because she felt it might be warmer there. Of course, Guan Shiyun was also a little confused by the question.
"The situation is different."
"What's different?" Is it because she wants to get to know Lin Bei but not me? Li Miao pondered the reason.
Guan Shiyun looked at Li Miao, who was asking questions earnestly and then frowning in thought, and snapped out of her earlier surprise. Why was she always being led astray by this girl's thoughts? Guan Shiyun tried to regain control of this feeling of being out of control. If it were anyone else, she could easily defend against all kinds of overt probing and covert scrutiny.
But Li Miao, she was neither kind nor malicious, nor even emotional; she was just very direct, so direct that people who socialized while wearing masks felt at a loss, or even—infuriated.
Guan Shiyun didn't find it rude; in fact, she was pleased. Perhaps she liked this direct way of interacting, but she had worn the mask for too long, making her forget it, hence her loss of control and helplessness, yet also her fondness and longing. Guan Shiyun lowered her head and took a deep breath to calm her emotions, which were being pulled by two opposing forces. She tried to respond to Li Miao's directness with Li Miao's directness, then turned her head back to look at Li Miao, who was deep in thought.
“It’s different for me. Back then, we didn’t know each other and there was no need for us to get to know each other. Now, you and I know each other, and she’s your friend, so it’s necessary to politely ask for introductions. What about you? Why are you asking this?”
"Didn't you glance at me before introducing yourself to her? It's our first time meeting, but you didn't introduce yourself to me. Doesn't that mean I did something wrong? I'm pursuing you, so of course I need to find out."
Guan Shiyun understood somewhat and gradually mastered how to get along with Li Miao. Li Miao, however, hadn't figured out what was different. She decided to stop thinking about it and just ask directly.
"But how is it different? You and she don't know each other, and there's no need for you to get to know or interact with her. Or do you want to have some interaction with her in the future?"
But Guan Shiyun seemed to have been put on pause; her breathing stopped, and her mind went blank. Yes, nothing was different; the answer was obvious. She implicitly acknowledged that she would continue to have contact with Li Miao, and naturally, she might run into her friend again.
She had tacitly agreed, tacitly agreed to Li Miao's pursuit...
She won't allow someone she doesn't like to openly pursue her, just like what happened just now.
Guan Shiyun lowered her head and smiled softly, a smile that was both relieved and self-deprecating.
She probably just liked Li Miao, liked her appearance, liked her directness. She was unconsciously attracted by Li Miao's vigorous and unrestrained vitality. A passionate and straightforward person like her doesn't require any beating around the bush.
The answer was already predetermined from the very first meeting. All that talk about lust at first sight, principles, and pros and cons, were just excuses she refused to face. She had always been clear about what she liked, but so much time had passed that she had forgotten the answer herself, until Li Miao's appearance brought all her likes and imaginations to life, leading to love at first sight.
"Li Miao, Miss Li, I like you. Will you be my girlfriend?"
