Chapter 57 I know her better than you do (shuhaige.net)

He Mingxiao knew very well that Nan Xian did not want to see him.

When she saw him at the hospital, her subconscious reaction—the unconscious frown and the instantaneous coldness in her eyes—broke his heart.

He wanted to explain everything to her, to tell her that he didn't not love her or reject physical intimacy with her, but that he had too many helpless and difficult reasons.

But she wouldn't even give him a second glance, so how could she have the patience to listen to his explanation?

Perhaps—she might think he's lying, resorting to any means to win her back.

He Mingxiao knew that he was no longer liked by Nan Xian, and every time he appeared, it would only intensify her dislike for him.

Despite his deep reluctance, after a whole night of careful consideration, he decided to temporarily leave her sight for a while, giving her a buffer period.

Before leaving, he wanted to see her one last time.

Unexpectedly, he overheard Yu Lin's last question, which was tinged with mockery.

In He Mingxiao's view, Yu Lin, a greenhorn who has just entered the workforce and has not been tempered by society, cannot be called an "opponent," and perhaps not even a "love rival."

Even knowing that he had a prominent family background and that he himself could not easily touch him, He Mingxiao had never taken him seriously before.

However, he now believes he needs to change his opinion of this seemingly reckless and impulsive "kid".

Yu Lin possessed a passion that I lacked; he dared to speak and act, and was fearless in the face of difficulties, like a little wolf that was not afraid of bleeding or getting hurt.

But he also had things that the other did not.

A more mature and powerful heart, strong enough to protect the wings of a loved one, and—

I know Nan Xian better than anyone else.

For example, at this moment, when Nan Xian turned to look at him, He Mingxiao clearly saw surprise and relief in her clear and beautiful eyes.

That fleeting sense of relief was extremely subtle and brief, like a small shooting star streaking across a cloudy night sky, its light faint and difficult to discern.

But coincidentally, he was an excellent stargazer, or rather, he had memorized every little detail about Nan Xian.

The little shooting star streaked across her eyes and slowly landed on his heart.

In an instant, the fire spread like wildfire.

He once again became obsessed with her, disregarding everything else.

He didn't want to leave.

He Mingxiao stepped forward slowly, shielding Nan Xian behind his broad back, and looked at Yu Lin with a scrutinizing gaze unique to those in a superior position.

Yu Lin was a few inches shorter than him.

This discovery made He Mingxiao even happier. He raised his chin slightly, his tone cold and arrogant: "What makes you think you're qualified to compete with me?"

Yu Lin choked, his expression turning slightly sour, but he quickly realized something, and instantly regained his confidence, a smirk playing on his lips as he snorted through his nose.

“I’m younger and more energetic than you, Mr. He—you’re almost thirty, aren’t you?” As he spoke, Yu Lin brazenly scanned He Mingxiao from head to toe.

He Mingxiao's reaction was beyond his expectations—

He showed no shame or anger whatsoever, not even raising an eyebrow.

He simply continued to look at him with that extremely oppressive gaze, then chuckled very softly a few times.

Yu Lin was instantly enraged by the laughter. His eyes widened and his hands clenched into fists. "What are you laughing at?"

He Mingxiao looked him over thoughtfully, his tone calm and unhurried: "I laugh at you, you overestimate yourself but think too highly of yourself... I ask you, you keep saying you like Nan Xian, but do you know her? Do you know what her favorite cuisine is, what foods she is allergic to, how sweet she likes it, or how long her lunch break is?"

"I—" Yu Lin was stunned. He opened his mouth, but found that he couldn't answer any of the questions.

He Mingxiao laughed: "She likes both Cantonese and Hunan cuisine, is allergic to wheat, drinks milk with one spoonful of sugar and porridge with three spoonfuls of sugar, craves sweetness especially when she is sick, and gets a migraine if her lunch break is longer than 40 minutes—you see, I know all of this."

Yu Lin was stunned and subconsciously looked at Nan Xian, only to find that she was staring blankly at He Mingxiao's back, with a hint of emotion in her expression.

His heart sank into an ice cellar, and his tightly clenched fist slowly loosened.

Yes, Nan Xian and He Mingxiao, no matter what, they had many beautiful memories together. Even though they were divorced, they were once the closest lovers.

And I am just an outsider trapped in unrequited love.

Yu Lin was suddenly enveloped by a sense of powerlessness. He glanced at the two people in front of him, lowered his eyes, and silently turned and left.

Nan Xian withdrew her gaze from He Mingxiao and looked at Yu Lin's disheveled and dejected figure, and couldn't help but sigh inwardly.

But this is the best possible outcome. Although it will be a huge blow to him, at least it will make him give up his feelings for her...

Just then, I heard He Mingxiao cough a few times, as if he was in some discomfort. He clenched his fist and pressed it against his lips, his straight back slightly bent, showing some weakness.

Her actions outpaced her thoughts; instinctively, she took half a step forward and asked, "Are you alright?"

He Mingxiao waved his hand, but coughed even more violently.

Seeing his pale face flushed with illness from coughing, Nan Xian couldn't help but feel anxious. She didn't care about keeping her distance from him anymore and went forward to gently pat his back to help him catch his breath.

"What's wrong? Why are you coughing so badly? Should I call a doctor?"

He Mingxiao leaned closer to her without making a sound, and said in a hoarse voice, "Call Jiang Xing, he has the medicine."

Nan Xian quickly took out her phone.
