Chapter 29: Extreme Disappointment Can Make People Silence

Chapter 29 Extreme disappointment can make people silent

Throughout the meal, Lin Yuxun's words were unclear. She realized he was only approaching her to get to know her. He probably had a rough idea of her, and now he was using a classmate as a way to test her. He wanted to exploit her, a motive she'd welcome, given the difficulty of finding clients. He was using a friend as a cover, a way to keep things simple, to prevent her from telling him everything. If she refused, his goal would be thwarted, and he planned to sell the company himself. He wanted to be absolutely sure. He didn't mention the company, the position, or the specific organizational structure. She had no experience with this shady practice of replacing people with new ones. He was just testing her, so she remained vague and declined the offer, saying she'd consider it. But she also made it clear that no private deal was possible and that she had to work with her partner, Long Weihe. He could take a risk with someone he knew well, but he'd have to consider revealing his intentions to the partner who had rashly slapped him. He could use tactics to coerce one person into working for him, but expanding the scope to two people would be too much trouble. But she wasn't willing to take private orders, which was a plus for him. He thought she wasn't greedy for money, which made it easier for him to use her. He wasn't in a rush; the time he needed wasn't right yet, so he dropped the subject and changed the subject. Almost there, she scanned the QR code to pay. He said he'd already paid. "Didn't we agree to treat you?" He laughed. "Since you're clinging to the academic elite, I'll have to treat you more often. And don't slam me if I copy your homework next time." Slam him with your homework? She chuckled inwardly. They'd been classmates for three years. If he really had a business and could give her orders, she'd be willing to do his homework, not just copy his. After they parted ways, she took the subway, got into the car, and immediately searched for people. Searching the web for "Lin Yuxun" yielded no information. She added keywords like "enterprise" and "medical beauty," and amidst the jumble of information, she pulled out a few results. One was a business registration for a drone company with four shareholders, one of whom listed Lin Yuxun. She remembered the man who'd been strolling around Linhe a few days ago. The drone company listed on his business card was the same company. Was this Lin Yuxun him? Did he send someone to investigate? She broke out in a cold sweat. If that were true, what a joke! Several other listings showed familiar names and companies: Tongya Group, Lin Yushan, and the same name as him. Tongya was Li Xuan's former employer, a major player in the medical aesthetics industry. They started out as medical devices and have since transitioned to a full-service operation, encompassing everything from upstream R&D of raw materials and equipment to midstream plastic surgery hospitals and downstream distribution channels and consumers. They also own high-end medical examination centers and hotels, a partnership she and Long Wei had long built...

After the meal, Lin Yuxun was still confused.

She realized that he was only approaching her to get to know her, and he must have made a rough assessment of her, and now he was using a classmate to test her. He wanted to use her, and she was happy with this motive, as clients were hard to come by.

He was using his friend to talk, but it was a cover, to keep it a secret, in case he told her everything and she refused to do it, so he wouldn't achieve his goal and sell it himself. He wanted to be absolutely sure.

First, he didn't mention what company he was in, and second, he didn't mention what position he would hold. She didn't even know the specific organizational structure. She had never done this shady practice of firing people and replacing them. He was just testing her, so she was vague and didn't agree to the deal. She said she would think about it, but she made it clear that it was impossible to do a private deal and she had to work with her partner Long Weihe.

He could take a risk with someone he knew well, but he'd have to think twice about revealing his intentions to the partner who had rashly slapped him. He could use some tactics to coerce one person into working for him, but expanding the scope to two people would be too much trouble. But her unwillingness to take private orders was a plus in his eyes. He thought she was at least not greedy for money and betrayed her loyalty, making her easier to use.

He was not in a hurry about the matter. The time he wanted had not yet arrived, so he stopped talking and changed the subject.

Almost. She scanned the code to pay. He said he had bought it before.

"Didn't we agree that I would treat you?"

He laughed, "If you're a big shot, I'll have to treat you to a meal. Don't kick me out if you copy my homework next time."

Copying his homework and kicking him? She laughed in her heart. They had been classmates for three years. If he really had a business and could give her orders, she would be willing to do his homework, not to mention copying his homework.

After splitting up, she took the subway, entered the subway car, sat down and immediately searched for people.

I searched the web and entered "Lin Yuxun" but found no information.

She added keywords such as "enterprise" and "medical beauty", and found a few pieces of information from a pile of messy information.

One was a business information item, listing a drone company with four shareholders, one of whom was listed as Lin Yuxun. She remembered the man who'd gone for a stroll through Linhe a few days ago; the drone company listed on his business card was this same company. Was this Lin Yuxun himself? Had he sent someone to investigate? She broke out in a cold sweat. If that was true, what a travesty.

The other few that appeared were companies and names that she was very familiar with, such as Lin Yushan of Tongya Group and the word "he" (he).

Tongya was Li Xuan's former employer, a major player in the medical aesthetics industry. They started out as a medical device company and have since transitioned to a full-service operation, encompassing everything from upstream R&D of raw materials and equipment to midstream plastic surgery hospitals and downstream channels and consumers. They also own high-end medical examination centers and hotels, making them a major target that she and Long Wei had always eluded. They'd poached their people, but there was no room to fill their shoes.

She knew the company's top-level structure: the boss, Lin Guanghui, had a capable female president, Jiang Zhiping, and her daughter, Lin Yushan, had returned from abroad a few years ago and brought her son-in-law, Zhong Chengbing, into the business. She had never heard of a son.

Lin Yuxun claims to be in the medical aesthetics industry, yet he's not involved in it. There's some overlap. But it doesn't seem like it. How could Lin Yuxun be the son of such a large conglomerate? The second generation of Cantonese people are more low-key, but they wouldn't be so low-key as to even think of studying for an MBA.

After coming out of the subway station, she called Li Xuan and asked if Lin Guanghui had another son.

"I heard there was someone who worked with someone outside on some kind of drone and didn't come to work in the company," said Li Xuan.

It closed. It was most likely him. She was secretly happy, "What's your name?"

"have no idea."

"How old?"

"Less than thirty, Lin Yushan is only a little over thirty."

"What is the top-level structure of Tongya now?"

"Lin Guanghui is in charge of the overall situation, Jiang Zhiping leads the team to manage the core business, his daughter is in charge of finance, and his son-in-law occupies a key business position."

"How's the business going?"

"They've made a fortune in the entire medical beauty industry early on. The hotel's financial data has always been poor, but the physical examination center is still okay."

"Why didn't Lin Guanghui give his daughter and son-in-law a better position? Jiang Zhiping has been in charge for many years, right?"

"There's nothing we can do about it. Jiang Zhiping is capable. He followed Lin Guanghui to conquer the world and control core resources. Lin Guanghui is a cold-blooded businessman. He has to consider the survival of the company and commercial benefits first. As for his daughter and son-in-law taking over, it won't be easy for these two to take power. Their combined abilities are far inferior to Jiang Zhiping's. Besides, the son-in-law has problems with hiring people and management concepts. My previous boss was hired by him. He and Lin Yushan returned from studying abroad and copied foreign concepts. They used local soil and planted foreign seedlings. If they took over the business, they would fail sooner or later. Lin Guanghui will have to train them for a while and see what kind of people they are."

"Why doesn't his son come to work in the company?"

"It's rumored that he's in love. When his father wanted to send him to study abroad, he refused to date a girl. He went to university in China and is a bit of a fool. Some people speculate that he cut ties with his family. This is just gossip. We don't know the real situation, and we haven't seen it. He's a bit of a fool, but he's still got some guts. He did something out of the blue. Besides, if he comes to the company, how could he be better than Jiang Zhiping or his brother-in-law Zhong Chengbing? Zhong Chengbing is a superb actor. To be honest, I think Lin Yushan is no different from her brother. She went to Cambridge for nothing. She's also in love and has no brainer to trust Zhong Chengbing. If the future of the company is handed over to her, it will still fall into Zhong Chengbing's hands." Li Xuan was surprised that she asked so much. "Do you want to take their orders?"

"No, just gossip." Lin Yao walked to his own neighborhood. "When are you free? Let's have dinner together?"

"These past few days have been tough. Shi Zhenglin's project deadline is short, so I'll try to catch up. Let's do it on Saturday. I'll reserve a location then and invite Long Wei to come along."

"Okay, when you're free."

Lin Yuxun could have imagined that she might check, but at most she would find out some business information. However, he didn't expect that less than an hour after they separated, she would reveal Tongya and the gossip.

Her blood rushed to her head. If it was really him, this was Tongya, a big deal.

Then she thought again. According to Li Xuan, Lin Yuxun was just a deposed prince, comfortable on the outside. Why was he forcing his way in now? Tongya's personnel structure was incredibly complex. Was he trying to wedge himself in and seize power, competing with Lin Yushan? Who was the snake? Jiang Zhiping must be one, right? And Zhong Chengbing and Lin Yushan, too? She thought about it and felt he was overestimating his abilities and had no chance of success.

She waited for the elevator to check her messages. A message in Lin He's group of five broke the two-day silence. The excitement she had just felt for Lin Yuxun was instantly washed away by disappointment.

Song Yihui posted: [Li Yan has joined K-hunting and is in the same group as Chen Wenzhong.]

Anan followed up with: [No way!]

Song Yihui posted again: [Really? I have K Hunter's WeChat. They had dinner together tonight, and Li Yan is in the photo. It was his new job dinner.] She attached a screenshot of the person's Moments.

Tan Ming and Long Weihe remained silent, probably waiting for her to speak. She could still clearly hear the words that the person she had brought up had said to her when he left the company not long ago.

How could she say anything? Long Weihe had disappointed her, and now Li Yan had betrayed her. Extreme disappointment can silence people.

In the past, she would have rushed to Long Weihe's place to discuss the impact of this incident and vent her anger at being betrayed. The aftermath of the disagreement over Yan Bin had set in, and Long Weihe had said she was tired and needed to rest, adding a touch of urgency to their relationship. Who wouldn't be tired? She was tired too. They both needed some time to think.

When she got home, she threw herself into the shower, letting the hot water rush over her head. The more she showered, the colder she felt.

After blow-drying her hair, she called Tan Ming and asked, "Why didn't you say anything in the group message? Did you know about this?"

"I'm going to find Li Yan!" Tan Ming was furious.

"You found him?"

"I found him. He went to Chen Wenzhong's place instead of anywhere else! He was going against us, so I had to kill him!"

Seeing she remained silent, Tan Ming changed his tone, "He's really short of money. He hasn't been able to find a job since returning home. His father's illness is life-threatening, and he's in debt. He just worked with us to build up some skills, which has made him somewhat valuable to Chen Wenzhong. If he comes back here, he'll be worried about running out of work."

She had long passed the stage of judging people and things in black and white. Chen Wenzhong had the company's brand and customer resources to support him. People always strive for higher positions. How could she hold him back from pursuing advancement? She couldn't express any anger at this time.

"I don't have the ability to build a good platform and can't retain people," she said self-deprecatingly.

"That's not the case. To be honest, Chen Wenzhong approached me before, but I held back. I didn't tell you because I was afraid you'd misunderstand and think I was putting in a lot of pressure on you to give me a commission." Tan Ming paused. "He started working yesterday and didn't dare tell you in person, so he asked me to tell you. He said that when he was at Linhe, he and Chen Wenzhong had no personal interests involved and didn't make any private orders. He also said he would pay you back."
