Chapter 7 No Headhunting Company is Irreplaceable
"Here!" Tan Ming waved to Lin Yao and Long Weihe. He arrived at the Xingtan office building half an hour early. Xingtan was located in a large park in Huangpu District. There was a cafe off to the lobby, and he found a seat to wait for them. They were in the habit of arriving ten minutes early. It was still early, so the three of them sat down and discussed which resumes would be suitable for the positions they were submitting today. They had already anticipated the positions Xingtan would have openings for its IPO, and they had brought several resumes from candidates they had seen before, planning to submit a few as needed. They knew Jiang Lingli would find other headhunters to bid on the project. The competitive strategy remained the same: speed and quality of fit. "The paratroopers are young, and Xingtan is full of veterans. It's hard to say if they'll be able to stay in the fold after entering a den of wolves." Tan Ming popped a piece of gum into his mouth, pondering Shi Zhenglin. "The boss wants him to handle the IPO. There won't be any major personnel changes before and after the IPO, and the stability of the executive team is crucial to the success of the IPO. He has a golden ticket," Long Weihe said. Lin Yao didn't care about his life or death, her mind preoccupied with the success of the deal. "He's not stupid enough to go it alone, is he? He's integrating old employees while recruiting new ones. He should integrate someone like Jiang Lingli and give her headhunting privileges." "Why did he leave his previous company? I heard he was allocated a lot of shares, and he didn't complete the lock-up and service periods. It's a huge sum." Tan Ming felt sorry for him. Lin Yao checked the time. "I saw the personnel change announcement released by that listed company. He resigned for personal reasons. His successor's resume was also posted simultaneously. He's a big shot, so the stock price wasn't affected." "It's such an important position, it's strange that his previous company didn't give him a competing position." "Almost done, let's go." Long Wei adjusted her slicked-back ponytail, adjusted the collar ribbon of her apricot silk shirt, and stood up to put on the silhouetted smoky gray suit she had just put on her arm. The three of them registered their information at the lobby front desk. The receptionist couldn't help but stare at them the whole way. All three of them knew how to coordinate their looks and had outstanding temperament. Together, they walked out with an imposing presence. Their faces were imposing, their hearts were filled with trembling. Once they entered the other party's territory, no words were exchanged. Huang Meng met them at the front desk and went directly to Jiang Lingli. Jiang Lingli immediately discussed the deal, presenting nearly ten dazzling job positions. Aside from the overseas expansion positions, they hadn't considered them, but the others were largely in line with their expectations. Several of the positions had high annual salaries, and when added up, based on the fee rate, it amounted to an attractive service fee. Lin Yao reciprocated generously, immediately handing over resumes for business development and secretary positions, getting to the point, saying, "Resumes..."
"here!"
Tan Ming waved to Lin Yao and Long Wei. He arrived at the Xingtan office building half an hour early. Xingtan was located in a large park in Huangpu District. There was a cafe off to one side of the lobby, and he found a seat there to wait for them.
They were used to arriving at the office ten minutes earlier than the agreed time. It was still early, so the three of them sat down and discussed which position they would be most suitable for.
They had already anticipated the vacancies Xingtan would have for its IPO, so they brought several resumes of candidates they had seen before, intending to submit a few of them flexibly depending on the situation.
They knew Jiang Lingli would find other headhunters to bid. Their competitive strategy remained the same: speed and quality of fit.
"The airborne troops are very young, while Xingtan has a lot of old men. It's hard to say whether they can keep their place in the old wolf's den." Tan Ming peeled a piece of gum and put it in his mouth, thinking about Shi Zhenglin.
"The boss wants him to be in charge of the IPO. There won't be major personnel changes before and after the IPO. The stability of senior management is related to the success of the IPO. He has a get-out-of-jail-free card." Long Weihe said.
Lin Yao didn't care about his life or death, her mind was full of the success or failure of the order. "He wouldn't be so stupid as to go it alone, integrating the old ones and recruiting the new ones. He should integrate the old ones like Jiang Lingli well and give her the headhunting authority."
"What was the reason for him to leave his previous company? I heard that he was allocated a lot of shares, and the lock-up period and service period had not yet been completed. It was a huge amount." Tan Ming felt sorry for him.
Lin Yao checked the time. "I saw the personnel change announcement released by that listed company. He resigned for personal reasons. His successor's resume was also posted. He's a big shot. The stock price hasn't been affected."
"It's strange that the previous employer didn't give him a competitive position for such an important position."
"It's almost done, let's go up." Long Wei straightened her low ponytail, adjusted the collar ribbon of her apricot silk shirt, stood up and put on the silhouette gray suit that had just been put on her arm.
The three of them registered their identities at the lobby front desk. The lady at the front desk couldn't help but stare at them the entire way. All three of them knew how to coordinate their outfits, their looks and temperament were outstanding, and together they stepped out with impressive presence.
They were full of energy, but their hearts were filled with anxiety. They entered someone else's territory and didn't exchange a single word. Huang Meng met them at the front desk and went straight to Jiang Lingli's place.
Jiang Lingli talked about the order directly when they met, and brought out nearly ten positions, which were so dazzling.
Aside from the overseas positions, they hadn't considered them, but the others were pretty much what they'd expected. The annual salary range for several of these positions was quite high, and when added up, converted to a fee, it amounted to an attractive service fee.
Lin Yao generously reciprocated the generous outlay, immediately handing over resumes for the business development and board secretary positions. Getting to the point, he said, "The resumes have already been prepared for Mr. Jiang. For the BD manager, I'd like Ms. Li. She was the lead in Tongya Medical Beauty's successful acquisition of upstream medical aesthetic raw materials and equipment R&D. There are three candidates for board secretary. They all have pharmaceutical backgrounds and possess board secretary qualifications. Two of them have both CPA and sponsor qualifications and extensive experience in IPO preparations. Their comprehensive abilities support the responsibilities of board secretary. Their integrity and compliance have also been investigated. There's no problem."
If Shi Zhenglin intercepted her, Jiang Lingli would need weapons to fight back. These resumes were her bullets.
"Efficient! Go back and make the contract. I'll go through the contract stamping procedure and return it to you. I have no problem with the delivery standards and payment nodes as before, but you have to adjust the prepayment ratio and overall rate this time. There's no way, our budget is limited." Jiang Lingli flipped through the resume and said bluntly.
Huang Meng assisted, "The new leadership is strictly controlling costs, and the recruitment pressure is huge. Last year's rates were too high, and with so many positions this year, we can't accept an advance payment of more than 10%."
"The rate will be reduced by five percentage points compared to last year. A 10% advance payment is fine." Long Weihe responded straightforwardly.
She and Lin Yao had already discussed it when they arrived, and they didn't want to argue with Jiang Lingli. They wanted a package deal, with rates that wouldn't cross the bottom line, and flexibility. "Okay," Jiang Lingli said with finality.
"What is the contract process here? How long does it take?" Lin Yaotan.
"Just like before, we all have to go to the CEO and the boss to stamp the contract." Jiang Lingli said and asked Huang Meng to help her find the front desk to pick up the express delivery.
She sent him away and had something to say.
"Don't worry, the headhunting contract is just a formality. I still have this authority. You just need to find the right person, and do it quickly. This year I'll split the profits 20-80, and you'll take the majority." Jiang Lingli was both trying to curry favor and emphasizing her power.
She was indeed confident that she had the power. In front of her old colleagues, she wanted to save face and feel superior.
"I understand. Thank you, Mr. Jiang."
They were waiting for her to say this, knowing that she was very concerned about her reputation and that protecting her reputation was like protecting a city wall. If she was intercepted by Shi Zhenglin, she would naturally have to fight for what she said and would not lose face.
Lin He hurried, delivering the contract to Huang Meng the next afternoon. He also included some of the job recommendation reports his colleagues had prepared simultaneously. Huang Meng was satisfied with most of the resumes.
The next day, before leaving work, Lin Yao called Huang Meng. He said it was almost done; the contract had already gone through the stamping process. Jiang Lingli and the lawyer had reviewed it, and it was now passed to Shi Zhenglin. He said his review process was the most efficient in the company.
Life or death is something he can handle easily.
He was just not efficient with this contract, and it was delayed for a day, making those waiting for news anxious.
As it was almost time to get off work, he called Jiang Lingli over.
"Mr. Shi." Jiang Lingli entered his office.
"Sit down." Shi Zhenglin stared at the OA interface on his phone. "Let me take a look at your stamp application and headhunting contract."
She had Huang Meng go through the same process for the contracts with the two headhunting firms. Her previous supervisor and boss had signed them instantly without even glancing at them. She sat down and thought, "You're going to be exhausted from all this detailed inquiries."
"Lin He Headhunter, is there someone among them named Long?"
He recognized the company name. The party B signature on the contract was Lin Yao, and Long Weihe had deliberately avoided signing. He wanted to confirm.
Jiang Lingli found it strange that they were only asking about a company she had some personal relationship with. She shifted her stance and said, "Yes, there are two partners, one is Long Weihe and the other is Lin Yao."
"How big is your company? What's your position in the headhunting industry?"
Jiang Lingli said frankly, "Linhe is a small company, but the two partners used to work in this industry. They came from human resources and have been deeply involved in the pharmaceutical industry. They focus their resources and are very professional."
"We don't cooperate with this company, but there's no problem with the other one. You go through the process again." He put down his phone.
"Can you tell me the reason?" Her face changed color.
"These unofficial headhunting firms are small workshops with a few people running around, and they're unprofessional. We want to go public, so team stability and compliance are crucial, and we need to strictly control people. There are plenty of headhunting firms, but forget about this one."
To Lin He, he just couldn't stand it anymore.
"We have been working together for two years. Their delivery efficiency and quality are superior to other companies. Now the core members of several R&D lines are found by them. You can check them out. They are all excellent and stable." Jiang Lingli was firm and spoke with the team she built.
"Whether they are excellent and stable can only be seen after they successfully go public."
He doesn't admit it.
"They acted quickly this time and have given me resumes for several positions. The quality is very good. I can recommend you for an interview after I finish the interviews in the next few days. I'll go get the resume for you to see now." She was ready to go back and get some bullets.
"No need. Don't let me meet the person they recommended."
He picked up his phone again and looked down at other documents.
The man who had half stood up sat down and stared at the face that seemed to be blocking her. He was younger than her, but more serious. Thinking about what he had said to Lin Yao and the others, his face felt hot.
She wanted to get down on it, so she had to change her tone, a rare soft tone for her.
"Mr. Shi, we've been working very smoothly with them. If we switch to another headhunter, we'll have to adjust and it will affect our recruitment efficiency. On the operational level, please support us. This is just a contract to sign first. I will strictly control the process. If the person they recommend is not good enough, the contract will be useless and I will not cooperate with them in the future."
"Doesn't the contract require a ten percent advance payment?"
"I'll talk to them again and cancel the prepayment." She felt confident she could get this done.
"Boss Jiang," he said impatiently, his phone clattering on the table. "As someone who works in HR, you should know that there's no such thing as an irreplaceable headhunting company, right?"
Jiang Lingli became assertive again, "Boss Shi, the speed and quality of their recruitment in this industry, at least in the three years they've been working with us, really hasn't been replaced by any other company."
"Are they really irreplaceable, or is it that President Jiang doesn't want anyone to replace them?" He stared into her eyes.
She was speechless and confused.
Did they know they were old colleagues and suspected she was taking commissions? Personal relationships aside, she'd never had any financial dealings with them. Other headhunters had actually hinted at a fee split, but she'd ignored them.
There was no point in arguing for more. If we continued, not only would the contract not be signed, but we would also be punished.
The bullet turned out to be a dud and her face was peeled off.
She held her breath, her throat hard, and said, "Okay, let's go through the process again."
Between maintaining cooperation with Lin He and falling out with the new leader, Jiang Lingli would not be ambiguous.
She was so angry that her teeth were itching. She didn't think of anything else. She thought Shi Zhenglin was deliberately targeting her, picking on her, and blocking her authority.
Very unhappy.
What the hell is this nonsense about regulations and professionalism? I've been doing this for so long and I still don't know if I can use a headhunter? Fine, if you hold me back, I'll take it easy. Anyway, it's you, Shi Zhenglin, who's desperate to hire. Don't blame me, Jiang Lingli, for controlling the hiring process later. I'll make sure you don't find it easy.
She complained all the way out of his office, with a stern face, and called Huang Meng into her office.
"Headhunting contract, kick out Lin He, find K Hunter Chen Wenzhong to negotiate again, entrust everything to them, and go through the process again."
"Ah? Lin Helai's resume is good. I have arranged to meet with several candidates this week." Huang Meng looked confused.
"Decline it. It's recommended by K Hunter. You go first. I'll see you later when I have time."
"Then what should Lin He and I say?"
"If they don't pursue you, don't reply. If they do, just say we have important training this week and we're busy and don't have time to meet you for the time being."
She would tell them personally about the matter. She had lost her authority and face, so she needed to take it easy.
