Chapter 243 Incident

Chapter 243 Incident

Situ Huajian paused, then laughed helplessly: "You are really infatuated with him."

"Not really." Meng Anran gave an unexpected response, saying lightly, "But as his girlfriend, I have to be responsible for the relationship."

If Qin Mu betrayed her one day, then this "infatuation" would disappear in an instant.

Situ Huajian took a sip of champagne and said leisurely, "Lu Heng is right. You are a very sober person."

Meng Anran was visibly startled. She rarely heard Situ Huajian mention Lu Heng. She didn't respond and walked over.

Passing through the bustling crowd, Meng Anran arrived at a relatively quiet rest area on the west side of the castle.

Lin Rencheng was standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, holding a glass of whiskey in his hand with a serious expression.

"Lin Lu." Meng Anran stepped forward. "Why are you here?"

Lin Rencheng turned around, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes: "An Ran, I finally see you. I found some very important information and I must tell you immediately."

Meng Anran's eyes darkened. He could have waited until she returned to China to explain in detail, but he insisted on coming to the cocktail party to tell her first. It seemed that the situation was not simple.

"Are you in danger?" she asked simply and clearly.

Lin Rencheng didn't deny it, nodding solemnly. After glancing around to make sure no one was around, he approached Meng Anran and lowered his voice, saying, "Wang Chang has turned into a tainted witness, accusing Lu Heng of paying him to take revenge on Hot Wheels. However, Lu Heng's side provided evidence of his absence, and surveillance footage confirmed that Lu Heng hadn't seen Wang Chang during that time. But Wang Chang has insisted that it was Lu Heng who met him.

"I followed the location where Wang Chang met with the middleman and found some clues about Lu Pharmaceuticals."

Meng Anran suddenly frowned, and the more he listened, the more confused he felt.

Why is it suddenly related to Lu Pharmaceuticals?

Lu’s Pharmaceutical went bankrupt more than ten years ago, and now even Lu’s Group has gone bankrupt. What else can happen?

Lin Rencheng's expression became more and more complicated, and he seemed to find it incredible. The conspiracy behind this was no longer something he, a lawyer, could control.

He could only pass this information to Meng Anran as quickly as possible: "The place where the two met was at the old site of Lu's Pharmaceuticals. I found a basement there -"

Before he could finish his words, the lights in the entire castle suddenly went out and it was plunged into darkness.

In the darkness, Meng Anran felt someone next to her suddenly grab her wrist, and the stress reaction made her instinctively want to shake it off.

"Don't make a sound, it's dangerous." Lin Rencheng deliberately suppressed his voice low and deep. Meng Anran stopped struggling and followed Lin Rencheng's footsteps.

The next second, there was a muffled sound, and the person in front of her suddenly fell on her. She subconsciously supported him, but her fingertips touched something wet, and a strong smell of blood spread.

The moment the lights came back on, Meng Anran's pupils suddenly shrank.

Lin Rencheng fell into her arms, with a bloody hole in his abdomen. Warm blood was gushing out, staining her smoky blue velvet dress red.

His lips trembled, as if he wanted to say something, but he only spat out a mouthful of blood foam.

"Lin Lu!" Meng Anran helped him slowly kneel on the ground, pressing her fingers tightly on his wound, but could not stop the surging blood.

The noise here attracted the attention of the whole hall. When the guests saw the person lying in a pool of blood, screams were heard all around and the guests fled in panic.

Meng Anran looked up and around, and caught a glimpse of a quickly departing figure in the chaotic crowd - the man was wearing a waiter's uniform, but when he turned around, a piece of black gloves was exposed, which was out of place at the cocktail party.

"Hold on, the ambulance will be here soon!" Faced with life and death, Meng Anran could no longer remain calm as usual. With trembling hands, she rummaged through her bag to take out the medical silver needles she carried with her.

Lin Rencheng raised his hands with great difficulty and held hers, saying with a weak breath, "Lu's... basement..."

Before he finished speaking, his hands suddenly dropped and he closed his eyes.

"Lin Lu!"

Meng Anran felt a chill run down her spine. What was hidden in the basement of Lu's Pharmaceuticals? Why was it worth killing for?

When she felt something hard in her palm, Meng Anran immediately understood what was going on and secretly held the thing Lin Rencheng handed to her in her palm.

The crowd was in great chaos, and while unpacking the silver needles, she put the thin little square box into the inner layer of her handbag.

Castle security quickly cordoned off the area and ordered all guests to remain in the lobby for questioning. Meng Anran was so focused on giving Lin Rencheng acupuncture to stop the bleeding that she had no time to think about how to safely leave the castle.

"An Ran!" Situ Huajian appeared behind her at some point, his face pale. "Are you okay?"

Meng Anran stopped Lin Rencheng's bleeding and turned to stare at Situ Huajian warily. "Where were you when the power went out?"

Situ Huajian was startled. "I was in the power distribution room on the second floor and found that someone had cut off the power."

He lowered his voice and said, "This is not an accident. This is murder. We must leave immediately."

"We?" Meng Anran sneered, "This is your grandfather's house, or rather, your home. Where are you going?"

A trace of pain flashed in Situ Huajian's eyes: "Do you doubt me?"

Meng Anran's expression no longer contained a polite smile, instead it was as cold as frost. "You knew Lin Rencheng would come a long time ago. This is your Situ family's manor, and tonight is the Situ family's cocktail party. If something happened to Lin Rencheng here, shouldn't I be suspicious of you?"

Situ Huajian had nothing to refute, his thick sword-like eyebrows were tightly furrowed, knowing that no one in this ancient castle would believe Meng Anran.

He grabbed her wrist fiercely and said, "The killer might still be nearby, and you might be his next target. Believe me or not, get out of here with me now!"

Meng Anran broke free from his hand, but at this moment she noticed a fresh bloodstain on the back of his hand, as if he had been scratched by some sharp weapon.

"Are you hurt?" She narrowed her eyes.

Situ Huajian glanced at the back of his hand and took out a handkerchief from his pocket to cover the wound. "I encountered a man in black in the power distribution room and got scratched during the fight."

Meng Anran's eyes relaxed a little, it seemed that this matter had nothing to do with Situ Huajian.

Before she could figure out what to do next, there was a commotion in the hall again.

A young man's voice rang out fiercely, echoing from far away into the west hall: "Seal all exits! No one is allowed to leave!"

Situ Huajian's expression suddenly changed, and he grabbed Meng Anran and said, "Let's go!"

Meng Anran glanced at Lin Rencheng, who was still lying in blood, and asked, "What should we do with him?"

Situ Huajian followed her gaze and looked at Lin Rencheng. The bleeding in the man's waist and abdomen had stopped temporarily, but if he stayed here, the result would be death.

He quickly tore off the tablecloth on the coffee table and wrapped Lin Rencheng's body to prevent blood from dripping and exposing his whereabouts when he left.

Then he carried Lin Rencheng on his back and tied him to himself.

"I've already notified Qin Mu, come with me."
