Chapter 244 Escape
They took advantage of the chaos to slip into a hidden corridor.
Meng Anran's heart was beating like a drum. She took out the small square box from her handbag and hid it in her underwear.
At the end of the corridor was an ancient oak door. Situ Huajian entered the password and the door opened.
"This is my grandfather's private collection room. There's a secret passage leading to the garden," Situ Huajian explained hastily. "Qin Mu has already been notified to pick us up there."
Various antiques and artworks are displayed in the collection room, but Meng Anran's attention is attracted by an old photo on the wall.
The photo shows the young Mr. Situ and an Asian man, both of them raising their glasses to celebrate.
"Is this Bai Yuanshan?" Meng Anran recognized the former head of Lu Pharmaceutical.
Situ Huajian paused, "Do you know him?"
Meng Anran frowned, her eyes darkening a little, "Bai Yujin's brother, Lu Heng's uncle."
"There's no time to worry, let's go!" Situ Huajian carried Lin Rencheng on his back and quickly led Meng Anran.
No matter what the reason for the assassination tonight was, since it happened in the Situ family's manor and he was the one who invited Meng Anran here, he couldn't let her and Lin Rencheng die here.
The collection room was filled with the mixed scent of old paper and sandalwood. Meng Anran's eyes were fixed on the yellowed old photo.
In the photo, Bai Yuanshan looks young and handsome. He and Mr. Situ raise their glasses and smile at each other. The logo of "Lu's Pharmaceutical" can be vaguely seen in the background.
"What is the relationship between Bai Yuanshan and your grandfather?" Meng Anran asked in a low voice.
Situ Huajian quickly fumbled with the mechanism behind the display case on the other side of the collection room. Without turning around, he replied, "Business partner. At that time, Lu Pharmaceutical wanted to expand into the European market, and the Situ family provided a channel."
There was a loud bang from the direction they had come from, and the oak door was violently slammed.
Meng Anran trembled all over and subconsciously took a few steps back.
Catching up...
Situ Huajian finally found the hidden button. A bronze statue slowly moved away, revealing a dark passage. "Go in quickly."
Meng Anran hesitated for a second and looked at Lin Rencheng on Situ Huajian's back.
Lin Rencheng's face was already pale. After the bumpy ride, blood oozed out from the wound in his abdomen again and dripped onto the expensive carpet.
"He won't hold on for much longer. We can't get far with him." Meng Anran bit her lower lip. "You take him away first. I'll hold off the pursuers and then find a way to escape."
Situ Huajian's eyes were complicated. He untied the knots that bound him and asked Meng Anran to support Lin Rencheng. "Those people outside are coming for you. You have their secrets. You take Lin Lu away, and I'll cover your rear."
Meng Anran was about to refuse, but she heard him say, "The person leading the group outside is my cousin Kevin. They don't dare to do anything to me."
There was another loud bang from the oak door, this time accompanied by the sound of wood cracking. Meng Anran had no time to think about it. She gritted her teeth and nodded in response.
Situ Huajian quickly took out a pistol from the drawer of the display cabinet, loaded it, and handed it to Meng Anran.
"With self-defense."
Meng Anran took the gun with a heavy heart.
Situ Huajian didn't care about anything else and said hurriedly, "The end of the passage is the rose garden, and over the east wall is the highway. Qin Mu should be here soon, you should leave quickly, and it's best not to stay in Country A for too long."
After all, this is a lawless place, and no one can guarantee safety outside the castle.
The loud noise of the door being slammed open interrupted their farewell. Situ Huajian reacted quickly and pushed her into the entrance of the passage and closed the secret door.
The immense force of the impact caused Meng Anran to stumble back a few steps, falling deeper into the passage. The last thing he saw was Situ Huajian, shot in the leg, kneeling before Kevin, and the bronze statue slowly closing its crack.
Darkness swallowed everything in an instant.
Block out all the chaotic sounds.
"Situ!" Meng Anran called out anxiously, but the only response she got was the hollow echo in the passage.
Meng Anran gritted her teeth and supported Lin Rencheng's body, moving forward in the narrow passage with the faint light from her mobile phone.
The walls were damp and cold, and the air was filled with a pungent smell mixed with mold and blood.
The passage seemed endless. Meng Anran's arms began to ache, and Lin Rencheng's breathing grew weaker.
After turning a corner, a glimmer of light finally appeared in front of him. Meng Anran quickened his pace and came to an iron gate.
Outside the door was a dense rose bush, and the moonlight shone through the branches and leaves in patches.
Meng Anran gently put Lin Rencheng down and pushed the door hard, but found that it was locked.
She calmed down her thoughts, forced herself to remain calm, and looked around for the mechanism to open the door.
She stood on tiptoe and groped for it, until she touched a hidden button. The iron door creaked harshly and slowly opened.
A fresh night breeze blew in her face, carrying the fragrance of roses. Meng Anran took a deep breath, set up Lin Rencheng again, and crawled out of the passage.
The rose garden was eerily beautiful in the moonlight, its dark red flowers resembling drops of solidified blood. Meng Anran looked around cautiously and chose a path that seemed to lead to a wall.
After taking a few steps, the roar of an engine came from the distance. Meng Anran froze in place, unsure whether the person coming was friend or foe.
"It's Qin Mu..." Lin Rencheng suddenly spoke, looking up at the night sky, "He... is here..."
Now that she is here, Meng Anran will be safe, and the evidence that she exchanged her life for will also be safe.
Meng Anran looked at Lin Rencheng suspiciously, and found that his eyes were unfocused, and he was clearly unconscious. She gently patted his face: "Lin Lu? Lin Rencheng!"
No response.
Lin Rencheng's head drooped weakly, and his breathing was almost imperceptible.
The engine noise was getting closer, accompanied by the sharp sound of tires rubbing against the ground. Meng Anran decided to take a gamble and dragged Lin Rencheng towards the source of the sound.
After passing the last patch of bushes, she saw the road. A black SUV braked to a stop and the door flew open.
"safely!"
It was Qin Mu's voice.
Meng Anran's anxious heart finally settled down. The fact that she had survived the disaster made her nose sore and she almost cried.
"Here! Help!"
Qin Mu and Meng Chenghong rushed over and saw Meng Anran and Lin Rencheng covered in blood. Their faces turned pale instantly.
"Second sister, what happened? Are you hurt?" Meng Chenghong looked at his sister anxiously.
I thought that my trip to Country A would be like traveling abroad, but who could have imagined that a shooting would happen?
He had never seen such a bloody scene, and his hands were shaking for a moment.
I dare not think about what would have happened if Brother Mu and I had arrived a little later, or if Second Sister had not been able to escape with Lin Lu...
Qin Mu, on the other hand, didn't ask anything and behaved very calmly. He took Lin Rencheng, quickly checked his injuries, lifted him up, and put him in the back seat.
Then, his gaze turned to Meng Anran's blood-stained blue-gray dress, and he frowned slightly, "Are you hurt?"
"No." Meng Anran shook her head, her eyes bloodshot.
Qin Mu hugged her in his arms, touched her head, and coaxed her in a low voice: "An Xiaoran, you are very good. You brought Lin Lu out safely. Let's send Lin Lu to treatment first. I'm sure we can make it in time."
