Chapter 71 Xu Jingyan's Phone Call

Upon hearing this, Lu's mother panicked, her voice rising several decibels involuntarily: "Wait a minute, a mango allergy? What... what happened? When did this happen?"

Xu Jingyan feigned surprise, "Ah? Auntie, you didn't know? I thought it was a new maid who hadn't figured out Yan Ting's situation yet, so I quickly told you."

Lu's mother's voice was filled with tension and anxiety, with a slight sob in it: "We haven't hired any new people for the family. Yan Ting didn't come home last night, and I had no idea he went to the hospital. How is he now? Is it serious?"

When Lu Yanting was very young, he had an allergic reaction. The symptoms were so severe that they almost killed him. That's why his mother was so anxious when she heard about it.

Xu Jingyan quickly comforted her, "Auntie, Yanting isn't seriously ill right now. He probably didn't tell you because he was afraid you'd worry. Don't worry, I'll take care of him for you."

Lu's mother was quite anxious at first, but after hearing what Xu Jingyan said, she felt relieved.

"By the way, Auntie, does Yanting not live at home anymore? Do you know his address outside?"

After Xu Jingyan finished speaking, she smiled a little shyly and then said, "Could you tell me? When you have time, I can go and take a look at him for you."

Lu's mother's feelings for Xu Jingyan were quite complicated. Ever since she took a knife for Lu Yanting in front of the thugs, Lu's mother had always felt indebted to the girl. She once proposed to take her in as her goddaughter, but Xu Jingyan refused.

Lu's mother saw through Xu Jingyan's intentions at the time, but she was satisfied with Xu Jingyan. She just didn't expect that her son seemed to have never thought about it in that way.

Sitting on the soft sofa, Lu's mother looked at the lawn in the distance and sighed. If Xu Jingyan could really warm her son's cold heart, then let her go.

Then, Lu's mother revealed Lu Yanting's address at Shuiyue Huating.

After hanging up the phone, Xu Jingyan went straight to get a medical check-up.

An hour later, she walked toward Lu Yanting's hospital room.

"Yanting, you're awake?" As soon as Xu Jingyan stepped into the ward, she saw that Lu Yanting had opened his eyes and was staring quietly at the ceiling.

When Yan Kai saw Xu Jingyan arrive, he understood perfectly and made an excuse to quietly leave the ward, closing the door behind him.

"Hmm, what are you doing here?" Lu Yanting turned his head, glanced at her indifferently, and spoke calmly.

"Yanting, I come here for a check-up every year around this time, don't you remember?" Xu Jingyan walked closer to the hospital bed and gently pulled over a chair to sit down.

"Oh, yes, so much time has passed, I can hardly remember anymore." Lu Yanting lowered his eyes slightly and murmured a sentence, as if he was responding to Xu Jingyan, or as if he was talking to himself.

"What? Yan Ting, what did you just say?" Xu Jingyan didn't hear clearly, leaned forward slightly, and asked with a puzzled look.

Lu Yanting raised his eyes and glanced at her, his gaze deep and complex, his tone slightly heavy: "Thank you."

Xu Jingyan naturally knew that Lu Yanting was implying something. After that scalpel surgery, her health had deteriorated significantly, so she had to come for a check-up every year.

Xu Jingyan's lips curled into a bitter smile as she said softly, "Yanting, you know in your heart that we've known each other since we were kids, and we're best friends who know each other inside and out. That knife wound back then was something I willingly took for you, so you don't need to thank me at all."

Upon hearing this, Lu Yanting slowly withdrew his gaze and looked back at the ceiling. His expression became increasingly complex and difficult to discern, as if he had a thousand words to say, yet they were all stuck in his heart.

"I was on the phone with your aunt just now, and I accidentally let it slip that you were in the hospital. You... won't be angry with me, will you?" Xu Jingyan gently placed her delicate handbag on the bedside table and tentatively asked.

"It's nothing," Lu Yanting replied indifferently without even lifting his eyelids.

“Auntie said she really can’t find the time to come over right now, so she asked me to take care of you…” Xu Jingyan said, her cheeks burning even more. She lowered her head slightly, her fingers unconsciously twisting the hem of her clothes.

"No need, Yan Kai is enough here. You can go back." Lu Yanting said without the slightest hesitation.

Just as Xu Jingyan was about to open her mouth to say something, Lu Yanting's phone, which was placed next to his pillow, suddenly rang.

Lu Yanting casually picked up the phone, didn't even look at the screen, and directly swiped to answer.

Perhaps his finger accidentally touched the hands-free button, because the next second, Lu's mother's concerned voice echoed clearly in the ward.

Lu's mother first inquired carefully about Lu Yanting's condition. After learning that there was nothing seriously wrong, she said that she had recently made plans to play cards with friends and would not be going to see him.

Lu's mother was still talking non-stop on the other end of the phone. Lu Yanting frowned and was about to hang up.

At that moment, a loud, energetic shout came from the other end of the phone: "Wait! I've said so much, why aren't you reacting at all? Are you trying to hang up on me?"

Lu Yanting's brows furrowed instantly, his tone revealing a hint of impatience: "Since there's nothing important, let's not force this conversation. Let's all save some time."

"You brat, how dare you talk to your mother like that?" Upon hearing this, Lu's mother's voice suddenly rose.

However, after pausing for a moment, she sighed helplessly. After all, he was her own son, and no one knows a child better than his mother. It was a waste of energy to beat around the bush with him, so she might as well get straight to the point.

Lu's mother cleared her throat and said, "By the way, son, aren't you feeling unwell? I have been quite busy lately, so I'll have Jingyan go over and take care of you!"

Lu Yanting frowned even more. He took a deep breath and tried to make his voice sound calm: "Mom, if you're busy playing cards, then go ahead! Can you please stop worrying about my affairs?"

"It's settled then. I'll tell Jingyan the access code for Shuiyue Huating later. You two should keep in touch."

Lu's mother seemed not to hear her son's protest at all, and continued talking to herself. After she finished speaking, she immediately hung up the phone, afraid that he would change his mind.

Lu Yanting frowned slightly as he looked at the phone that had been hung up, then casually tossed it aside.

At noon, Qiu Mang personally cooked several dishes and took them to the hospital. When he arrived at the ward door, he heard a woman's voice coming from inside.

Looking through the window, she could see steaming food on the table. Xu Jingyan sat on the edge of the bed, picked up a soup bowl, and prepared to feed Lu Yanting soup.

Watching the natural interaction between the two, Qiu Mang felt that she had come at the wrong time. She lowered her eyes slightly and was about to leave when she turned around and bumped into Yan Kai who was walking towards her.
