Mirabai stood in the middle of what looked like a disaster. Around her were burning and falling houses, and several screams of witches being tortured by their kind. She had taken control of most of the warrior witch’s minds, and now the whole forest had turned upside down with no one to protect them.
Being able to control minds was something extraordinary even for the extraordinary.
The Crown witch had already defeated William, but he was still atop the hill holding himself back, trying to keep a firm distance from Mirabai. He could already feel the strength and area of her powers and was struggling to keep himself from being controlled.
Her voice was in his head, it surrounded him, it was everywhere. Her control was gradually getting the best of him, and he had to keep his complete focus to keep from turning into one of her puppets.
It pained his soul and shook his existence that he could hear the witches in the forest, calling for his help but he couldn’t do anything. If he makes a slight move to assist them, his focus would be broken and Mirabai would have him where she wants him and then soon enough, he would become like one of the warriors torturing a fellow witch.
He could only hope someone powerful enough would arrive and lend a helping hand... but does such a person capable of escaping Mirabai’s control exist?
Mirabai Zephyrus wished there was someone out there that could put an end to her. The peace she had fought for while she was alive, the efforts she and Harlow had strung together, and the harmony they had fought for...
Here she was, destroying it. And it wouldn’t end here.
She had used these hands to kill her own daughter, watched the life leave Raziah’s eyes and nothing had hurt that had before. She was supposed to feel nothing, but the sight of her impaled and dead daughter had rang a bell inside her lifeless heart.
She was dreadful. It was a horrible feeling.
How could all this have happened? When she had been woken from her long slumber and had seen Maria’s face as the seeress whom was responsible, it tore and plunged her nerves. So many things had happened. It was hard to believe.
All she could do now was hope there was someone out there, whoever, however, whatever way, just someone that could stop her. Someone strong enough, with a powerful will that won’t allow her into their minds and control them because, for all she knows, Raziah might be the only person in the world capable of resisting her.
Hope. She was gonna hold on to hope. Someone to stop her. Another house fell to its ground behind her, and Mirabai could only blink at the crashing sound, knowing her daughter’s body must already be buried under everything.
But the crash wasn’t exactly...solid. Sounded more like something had stopped the building from falling halfway or something, and that forced Mirabai to turn around and see what it was.
The sight was unbelievable. Dust had raised wildly, and there was the house that was supposed to have crashed completely to the ground...frozen solid to its roots. Ice surrounded it, keeping it from completely crashing.
And from the dust it had caused, rose the Princess.
Mirabai could hardly believe her eyes. Raziah came out walking from the dust, her body extremely pale. She had several holes dripping with blood around her body, but the spear Mirabai had impaled her with was still deeply embedded into her chest.
Raziah calmly reached out and pulled the spear out of her chest. It looked as if she felt no pain. Like nothing could hurt her anymore. Blood dripped down from her chest and from the tip of the spear.
She was covered in blood. How she could still walk on her own was a miracle in itself.
Her wounds weren’t healing...a fatal weakness to all healers.
They can heal all wounds, no matter how severe... except theirs.
They stared at each other eye to eye, and Mirabai was beginning to comprehend why her daughter seemed to be cold itself, the reason she could freeze an entire building, the reason why cold reeked out of her pores like it was a part of her.
Oh no.
"You’re full of surprises, Raziah," Mirabai stated, then directed every attack back at Raziah. Every single witch in the Forest, warrior or non-warrior, came zooming out of everywhere toward Raziah. Spells and spears were ready to hit Raziah, some of the witches had launched themselves in the air ready to impale her again and others were ready to throw a spell of attack at her.
But all that changed.
For a second there, Mirabai thought she was hallucinating what her eyes were visualizing. Raziah’s eyes glowed mightily, and it happened.
All the witches had stopped in their tracks, all of a sudden. The ones with the spears had landed on their feet and dropped their weapon, while the others muttering spells had gone quiet.
And to top it off, the burning fire raging the forest suddenly went out on its own, and all the buildings that had fallen began to float around, rearranging themselves into the houses they were before. The injuries inflicted on the witches disappeared, and they were healed instantly.
Just in a few seconds, it looked as if nothing had happened to the witch town. Like it was still brand new as ever. Every single burn, every element, every evidence of a disaster was gone.
Mirabai wasn’t scared. Not at all. She was shocked...by her daughter. The girl had just blown her mind away.
Healers can only control the minds of things that breathe, that have a heart and soul to manipulate... not inanimate things! But Raziah had just...
Not only that, but Raziah had also healed thousands of witches without even touching them.
Impossible! Raziah had gone beyond expectations!
That wasn’t all. Mirabai realized she couldn’t get into their minds anymore, for Raziah still had a vice hold on them. Even Bellerus had been set free and was catching his breath from where he lay watching everything in shock.
In the blink of an eye, Raziah was standing in front of her mother.
Neither of them moved. Mirabai’s eyes were filled with shock and wonder.
"I haven’t the slightest idea how you feel," Raziah said, "But watching you die wrecked the most important part of me. I hated everything. I wish for all of them to perish. And that...is a wish I never regretted making, even up till now,"
"Whatever that is, you can stop it. Stop it now,"
Raziah shook her head, "I’m sorry, but not even you can change my mind. It’s beyond you and I now...and I must see it through. Whether it brings me peace or not, it’s what I’ll carry on my back for the rest of my life,"
"God, you’ve always been extremely stubborn." Mirabai clenched her teeth. More and more of her emotions were escaping Maria’s control.
"Forgive me, mother." Raziah’s eyes clogged with tears, her heart painfully constricting. She shook terribly, her mind and heart pleading with her to drop the spear...that there was a chance for her mother.
That her mother deserved to live. She deserved all the good things this world had to offer, that they can make it work.
But Maria’s control had been too strong. It’s a dark technique itself that took the user’s life. Someone she had planned for so long. And even if Raziah suggested taking control of her mother’s mind, it wouldn’t make sense because the feelings wouldn’t be genuinely from Mirabai herself because of the control.
Just like the others, it pained Raziah to realize...that her mother had no hope to come back to life. Her mother should be resting in peace as it should be. Being alive, and knowing your will is being controlled was heartbreaking.
"Forgive me, but I have to kill you," Raziah sobbed hard. When a hand touched her cheek and cupped it gently, Raziah gasped and looked up at her mother’s pained eyes. Her mother wasn’t slapping her or anything. She was... touching her softly.
But Raziah could see it in her mother’s eyes. Going against Maria’s spell and will was having repercussions on Mirabai, but her mother had been holding on. Struggling to keep control for as long as possible. Ignoring the toxic effects of going against the technique’s control.
"At least this time, I get to say goodbye." And Mirabai gave her daughter the softest smile, just as Raziah gave her a swift death.
The swear was impaled into her mother’s skull through her forehead, making the pain last only for a split second.
And for everything Raziah stood for, she almost fell to the ground while she watched her beautiful mother dissolve into sand and fall to the ground.
Life was too cruel.
"Raziah?"
Raziah turned around to see Bellerus making his way toward her as fast as he could. The witch seemed to have been severely injured too, and could barely walk.
All he knew was that Raziah was even in a dire condition with all those holes in her body. She had already lost a lot of blood and would die soon if nothing was done. He felt he had to at least help her with a spell before it was too late.
Not too far behind him, Raziah saw him.
The man who had found his warm and dark ways into her heart.
He was coming toward her. His eyes were shaking. He looked like he was about to lose his mind. He was so worried about her.
She would have preferred if Aragon never knew something had happened for he would have been scared out of his mind, but the news must have somehow gotten to him.
"Hazel! Hazel!!!"
His voice sounded so far. He should be with her within the blink of an eye. Now that he was there, she could let down her guard as much as possible. She could fall to the ground.
But Aragon didn’t reach his Snow-white in time.
