Looking at her rather smug expression, Gao Baoliang really wanted to pat her on the head and tell her not to be so proud.
It was past 3 p.m. when the two left the police station.
Gao Baoliang quickly took her back to his workplace to retrieve the documents.
Unexpectedly, Yang Lu was called into her boss's office as soon as she left the workplace.
Gao Baoliang could only wait in the lobby, glancing at the service window every now and then.
The salesman who chatted with her last time was sitting at his desk reading the newspaper, obviously with nothing to do, but Yang Lu had always been in charge of his business, and he didn't want to ask anyone else.
Yang Lu entered the office, and her boss immediately questioned her about why she left with another man and why she was so close to him.
She frowned slightly, surprised by his subtle choice of words.
"I was just out working and was about to report to you about Fuqiang Construction's qualifications. Who told you that this is unnecessary?"
Seeing that she was getting a little angry, the leader immediately put on a smiling face.
"Xiao Yang, I'm doing this for your own good. The Xiao Zhao I introduced to you is great. He graduated from a prestigious university, and his family works in the government. Although he says you're a bit boring, if you get to know him better, this might just work out."
The "Xiao Zhao" that the leader mentioned is the picky guy she went on a blind date with last time.
Yang Lu smiled and said, "Thank you for your concern, but unfortunately, Xiao Zhao doesn't like people like me. I remember you have a daughter who's about twenty, right? Why don't you introduce them to each other?"
The leader's daughter is currently being offered for marriage, and they're looking to find her a better match; how could they possibly introduce her to Xiao Zhao?
He was only so enthusiastic because he knew that Xiao Zhao's parents could help him get a promotion.
"Alright, if you're not happy about it, then forget it. Just be more careful with your interactions with clients in the future." The manager dismissed her.
When she returned to the window, Gao Baoliang immediately went over. Noticing no other expression on her face, he took the documents in a businesslike manner.
Yang Lu stared at his departing figure, lost in thought for a long time.
When Gao Baoliang returned to the courtyard house with the documents, it was almost dinnertime.
Wang Xiufen told them to wash their hands and prepare for dinner.
While Gao Baoliang was washing his hands, Lin Chen came over and asked him what had happened between him and Yang Lu that day.
"What? What happened?" Gao Baoliang asked, puzzled.
It's not an act; I genuinely don't know what's wrong with me.
Lin Chen wiped his hands with a towel, raised an eyebrow,
"Baoliang, you let Yang Lu ride on your motorcycle today. You don't know what that means, do you?"
Gao Baoliang also picked up the towel hanging on the hemp rope.
“I was riding my motorcycle to run some errands and happened to be taking her to see my sister-in-law. Is there a problem?”
Should we let her take the bus by herself?
He felt that what happened today was perfectly normal; no one else had given it much thought, so why were they overthinking it?
Just then, a motorcycle rumbled to a stop in the yard, and Luo Guangming and Lin Qiao returned.
Lin Chen nudged Gao Baoliang with his elbow, gesturing for him to look at Lin Qiao's hand.
She removed her hand from Luo Guangming's waist. She might not have thought much of it herself, but to outsiders, it was an extremely intimate gesture.
"Brother, I've got a job at a publishing house."
Lin Qiao's words interrupted their thoughts.
Lin Chen quickly asked her which magazine she worked for, how big it was, and how much she earned.
Wang Xiufen called for dinner, so Lin Qiao went to put her things away, saying she would talk about it while they ate.
Just then, a slender figure appeared at the doorway.
The courtyard gate was not closed, and she stood there knocking on the door to attract everyone's attention.
Gao Baoliang looked over and his heart skipped a beat; it was Meng Jiao.
"You guys eat first, I'll be right there."
Gao Baoliang scratched his forehead and walked toward Meng Jiao with a wandering gaze.
"Let's find a place to sit down. I have something I want to tell you."
When Meng Jiao saw him coming, she walked towards a pavilion not far away.
"Let's stay here," Gao Baoliang quickly called out to her.
He came to a camphor tree outside the wall. There were many seeds that had fallen from the tree on the ground. He picked one up and pinched it to play with.
Meng Jiao felt a pang of pain in her heart, suppressed her grievances, and walked to his side.
Before he moved, she went to his bungalow to look for him a few times, but each time they parted on bad terms after only a few words.
This was her first time visiting this courtyard house.
Lin Qiao went to her workplace to look for a job, and she recommended her to her supervisor.
They only came after seeing her current address.
For some reason, after she and Gao Baoliang ended their romantic relationship, other people treated her indifferently and with great polite distance.
She really didn't want this to happen.
“Baoliang, I really regret it. My life is suffocating right now, and I want a divorce.”
She spoke her true thoughts, which she had kept hidden for a long time.
Since marrying Li Jiabao, she has refused to have marital relations with him.
Although the two of them now live under the same roof, they are like strangers, neither of them caring about the other's work or feelings.
Li Jiabao is so focused on his career that it's common for him to not go home for days at a time.
She felt both lonely and empty inside.
She often thought of how Gao Baoliang had tried to please her before.
When Gao Baoliang heard her say she wanted a divorce, his usually calm expression faltered for a moment.
"Marriage is not a game; think it through carefully."
As a friend, that's all he could say.
Seeing Meng Jiao on the verge of tears, he crushed the camphor seed in his hand and said in a clear voice:
"Meng Jiao, you can't do this. You suddenly got married and gave up on our relationship. Now you're unhappy and you come to me looking so aggrieved."
You need to understand that all your grievances and pain are not caused by me. If you want to resolve this situation, you should look for the person who created it, not me.
