He peeked into the backyard.
I saw several groups of people sitting around a long table in the backyard, working hard on their steaming breakfast.
Mark immediately recognized the men from the Mad Wolf Adventure Group who were tearing into freshly baked bread.
Several core members of the Bucks Adventure Group carefully used spoons to scoop up the thick mutton soup in the bowl.
Elon Silver Fox, leader of the Silver Fox Group, was methodically stuffing an unknown fried object into his mouth.
Beta and Jimmy were drinking porridge with great enjoyment. On the plates in front of them were a few tea eggs covered with brown cracks.
Today's breakfast at Chunhui Hotel not only includes bread and milk, but also mutton soup, millet porridge, and tea eggs with a rich aroma of tea and spices!
"Mr. Mark?!" Jimmy, who was sitting facing the backyard door, was the first to see them. His voice was filled with surprise, "Anna! Ms. Monica!"
"You're back?" Beta turned around and was surprised to see Mark.
The people from the three major adventure groups also waved to Mark, and greetings came one after another.
But Mark noticed that except for the big guys like Mad Wolf who were calling "Mark kid" in a careless manner, the smiles of others were a little forced, and Beta's brow seemed to relax only after seeing him.
There was a gloomy atmosphere at the backyard dining table, which could not be concealed by the relaxed breakfast.
Mark led his teammates to find a place to sit down. Soon, Lisa, who was busy in the kitchen, conveniently brought them steaming hot rice porridge and tea eggs.
Mark picked up a warm and cracked tea egg, and the familiar aroma of the braised egg startled him slightly.
Good man, it is said that professionals are professionals.
The color and aroma of this tea egg are exactly the same as the one he made last time in the hotel.
Although tea eggs look simple, they are not difficult to make.
But he remembered that last time, all that was left in the breakfast pot was some old soup base soaked in spice residue, which was strong in flavor but turbid.
The chef at Chunhui Hotel is only a part-time worker.
But just by observing the mixed residual soup, he was able to accurately replicate the types, proportions, and cooking time of all the spices. Mark felt that he might have really underestimated the chef profession in the Holy Dragon Continent.
Mark was still sighing.
Anna had already skillfully cracked it open on the table, revealing the amber-like egg white and golden yolk inside.
"I repeated your recipe to our chef a while ago, and he got it right after a few tries." Lisa's voice rang in Mark's ears. "Our chef has also tried making the mutton soup you mentioned. It's very popular and has become a regular morning dish at Chunhui Hotel."
As a hotel owner, she puts so much effort into catering.
And she tried to get someone to do it just because the customer mentioned it casually.
As expected, Chunhui Hotel is worthy of being one of the top adventurer hotels in Osborne Town, and the service is really impeccable.
"Very good." Mark nodded, peeled the eggshell, and watched the brown lines seep into the egg white, but his mind was not on breakfast.
He turned his gaze to Beta: "Captain Beta, what happened in town? The atmosphere doesn't seem right."
Beta took a big gulp of porridge, and the bottom of the bowl hit the wooden table with a dull sound.
He put down the bowl, raised his slightly worried face, looked around at everyone, and finally fixed his eyes on Mark. His voice was as heavy as if filled with lead:
"It's more than just wrong! Captain Mark, the whole month you were out there, Osborne Town was in turmoil!"
He took a deep breath and began to tell the story of the series of events that had happened since the Adventurer's Guild launched the Wolf Valley investigation mission.
Of course, Beta actually heard the whole story from Captain Mad Wolf and the others. After all, they had only been back in Osborne Town for less than two weeks.
As Beta and Mark talked in the backyard, the atmosphere became quiet, leaving only the sound of bowls and spoons colliding and heavy breathing.
Captain Beta continued, pointing north. "Now, all the adventurers who have entered Phantom Wolf Valley are being rounded up in the temporary camp to the north! They're surrounded by Dragon Slayer City guards and Holy Light priests, like they're protecting them from the plague!"
"The townspeople don't dare get close, and the people inside are almost driven crazy! God knows if those guards will just set fire to the place one day... This damned mission is simply going to kill all the adventurers in Osborne Town!"
His voice was filled with suppressed anger and a hint of subtle fear.
What Beta said was not impossible. After all, the glorious history of the Holy Knights was clearly written in the scriptures of the Church of Holy Light.
In order to eliminate the influence of a witch, they can destroy a small country without hesitation!
With just a town like Osborne, neither the Lily Kingdom nor the Holy Light Church can really afford such a loss.
Mark looked at the other three leaders of the adventure groups.
The Mad Wolf leader was tearing a piece of toast with all his might, his thick knuckles turning white from the pinch.
He gulped down a mouthful of mutton soup, his Adam's apple rolling, and then he spoke in a muffled voice, his voice full of resentment:
"Beta's right! This is a fucking hell! If a dozen of my brothers from the Mad Wolf Regiment died fighting the monsters, that's life! It's the price of living on the edge of a knife! But if it's like in the camp to the north... that's just waiting to die! We can't do that!"
He slammed the wooden bowl onto the table, spilling the soup. "Holy Light Church? Dragon Slayer City? I don't trust them! Waiting to die? I won't do that!"
"Anyway, I've already sent a dozen or so of my weaker brothers away. If the Magic Association and the Holy Light Church can't handle this in the next two days, I'll take the rest of the brothers and leave! Even the Dragon Slayer City guards won't be able to stop us!"
Elon Silver Fox put down the delicate spoon in his hand, with a helpless smile on his face:
"Captain Mad Wolf's words are blunt but true. Although our three major adventuring groups have finally achieved some success in Osborne Town after years of operation, no matter how much money or how high your status, you still have to live to enjoy it."
"We're a small group like the Bucks. We can't afford to offend them, but we can at least avoid them, right? If that doesn't work, we can just go to another town and join a larger adventuring group. We won't have to deal with this anymore."
The words of the three group leaders were like cold stones thrown into the brief silence in the backyard.
Beta listened to their decision, his fists clenched under the table, his knuckles turning white.
He wanted to retort, to say that adventurers shouldn't be so cowardly, that Osborne was their root.
But when the words came to my lips, I couldn't say them.
Osborne Town has never been the root of adventurers. Everyone here is a low-level combat professional who comes here to make a living.
The reason why they came to Osborne Town as adventurers was, firstly, that they did not want to join an army without freedom, and secondly, they were not strong enough to grab more lucrative missions in other towns, nor could they hunt more powerful monsters.
The group of people living in Chunhui Hotel are considered to be the adventurers in Osborne Town who want to rebuild the adventure environment of Osborne Town.
But their strength was too weak after all, and they had no ability to resist a small change.
"Mr. Mark, your purification technique was able to expel even the dark erosion of the fourth-level Phantom Wolf King. Should it be able to resolve this incident as well? What do you think..."
Beta looked at Mark expectantly.
