Chapter 6 Cracks

As the lingering sound of the evening bell faded away in the damp evening breeze, Mark and Sister Irene said goodnight to each other and returned to their bedrooms.

After lying in bed for more than ten minutes, when the time on his personal panel reached 20:00, he quietly slipped out of the bedroom barefoot, wearing his black priest robe.

His feet made no sound as they stepped on the dry wooden floor. When he passed Sister Irene's bedroom, Mark just peeked in and found that the room was empty.

Having already prepared himself mentally, Mark quietly climbed up to the attic of the church dormitory.

Since Sister Irene said she could handle tonight's troubles, he would observe the situation first, and then ask the nun about professional skills in a subtle way after tonight.

If the nun couldn't solve the problem by then, he would find a way to sell some more church assets to raise enough money to buy the appraisal book and activate his skills directly.

Although it was completely dark, Mark, who had successfully changed his job and had all six attributes doubled, could still see the outlines of things in the church courtyard in the night.

Sister Irene was indeed still at the cemetery.

Anyway, in Mark's memory, Sister Irene seemed to have a special liking for that place and would stay there for more than half of the 24 hours a day.

However, this time, Sister Irene was holding a bottle filled with star-like liquid and walking around the cemetery, pouring the liquid.

The liquid with starlight quickly solidified after falling on the ground, and soon formed a complex magic circle in the cemetery.

"Sister Irene has this ability?" Mark always thought that Irene was just an ordinary second-level prayer nun. It was not until he saw the starlight from the magic circle in the cemetery covering the entire Stuart Church that he realized that it was just an appearance.

You should know that even the magic barrier of St. John's Church was drawn by a fourth-level formation master from the Fruit Wine City Diocese.

Their church is much larger than St. John's!

After Irene finished drawing the magic circle, she waved her hand and the bottle in her hand disappeared.

Then she threw her gray nun robe behind her, and the robe disappeared in the night. Instead, Irene was replaced by a black robe with a special magic circle drawn with silver threads that Mark did not recognize!

After putting on the robe, the old nun's hunched back suddenly straightened like a pine tree. In her hand, she held a silver staff as tall as a person with a crescent moon as the top. She exuded a noble and elegant temperament. She didn't look like the old nun Mark was familiar with, who seemed to be dying at any time!

After changing her clothes, Irene turned her head and looked up at the attic. Her eyes, as bright as stars, seemed to be able to see through the darkness and see Mark hiding in the attic.

Mark was so frightened that he immediately shrank his neck and hid behind the attic window.

"This doesn't seem to be the breath of holy light."

After Irene's eyes swept over him, Mark was full of doubts.

The original owner had lived in the church for twenty years after all, so he was extremely sensitive to the breath of holy light.

The feeling that holy light should give people is that kind of moistening feeling that moistens everything silently, but although Irene's breath just now is similar to holy light, it is sharper and colder.

While Mark was thinking this, a few miles outside the Stuart Church, a misty black shadow was rapidly approaching the church following a special smell.

In the Cathedral of St. John in the east of the town, Father Miller sat beside a pool filled with holy water, looking at a black and white goldfish in the holy water, which opened its mouth to suck the fish food he threw, and smiled meaningfully.

"Buzz~"

When the starlight barrier outside the Stewart Church was touched by a black shadow and emitted a low humming sound, Irene in the cemetery raised the silver staff in her hand, and a circle of silver halo surged out from the crescent moon decoration on the staff.

Wherever the silver halo passed, it was covered with a layer of light film, and Mark, who was hiding in the attic, was not immune to the coverage of this light film.

Before Mark could react, the dizziness wore off and he fell asleep in a daze.

Irene, who was looking here, seemed to have expected this result. A smile appeared on her face, and then she looked towards the church entrance with a serious expression.

At this moment, at the church door, the barrier set up by Irene with the magic circle was being knocked by a black shadow, causing ripples, but no matter how hard it tried, it seemed unable to break through the invisible film of the barrier.

"roar--"

The black shadow roared angrily, and it continuously attacked the barrier with its body that looked like black mist.

Until it saw Irene standing opposite the barrier, holding a silver staff, wearing a silver-black robe and with silver hair.

"Come on, monster, let me meet you!"

Irene's voice seemed to come from a dream, vague and long.

Her bright eyes intertwined with the shadow's gaze hidden in the mist.

Then the black shadow disappeared from the spot as if it had evaporated.

And Irene also shook her body and slowly sat down with the support of her staff.

A faint sigh came into Mark's dream.

"Old Stuart, you're right. Nightmares can only be caught in dreams!"

Irene, who entered the dream, was not clear about it.

The moment she closed her eyes, the cross necklace in Mark's arms in the attic not far away stirred up circles of hidden black light.

As the black light passed, the light film covering Mark's body dissipated.

"Why did I fall asleep?"

Mark held his swollen forehead and sat up, the cross pendant on his chest feeling faintly hot.

The silver moonlight cast colorful spots of light through the attic windows, and the portraits of saints on the stained glass that had originally faded were now slowly flowing.
