Chapter 71 A Man in His Thirties
It was already past eight when we got back to Luyuan. Auntie was still awake, dozing off on the sofa with the TV on.
Hearing the voice coming from the entrance, he looked up and woke up a little, turned off the TV and stood up: "Sir, Miss Lin."
Li Yansheng said "hmm" in response.
Lin Shutang smiled and called out, "Aunt Lu."
"Miss Lin, please wait a moment. The medicine is still warm in the kitchen. I'll pour it for you."
"good."
When the aunt brought the medicine, Lin Shutang frowned. She was actually very afraid of bitter things. Normally, she wouldn't even eat vegetables that were slightly bitter. She had only drunk half of her lunch medicine, and the bowl in front of her seemed to have more than the cup she had at noon.
Seeing that she was still not moving, Li Yansheng asked, "What's wrong?"
Lin Shutang shook his head: "No."
Li Yansheng turned around and said to Aunt Lu, "You should go and rest first. There's nothing else you need here."
After saying that, he walked to the kitchen.
Lin Shutang was so focused on the bowl of Chinese medicine in front of him that he didn't notice the people behind him leave. Li Yansheng must have told Aunt Lu about the approximate time they would return. The temperature of the medicine was just right for ingestion.
Lin Shutang recalled the videos she'd occasionally seen on social media showing how to take Chinese medicine painlessly. She held her breath and took several sips, stopping mid-sentence before finishing the entire bowl. Her mouth was filled with bitterness, so bitter that she couldn't help but shrug her shoulders and shake her head. She really didn't want to drink the rest, but remembering Li Yansheng was still there, she picked up the bowl and finished it in one gulp.
She had finished drinking, but as soon as she put the bowl down, a bitter taste welled up in her mouth and a feeling of nausea rose at the root of her tongue. She rushed into the bathroom and dry heaved a few times at the sink, but nothing came out.
After rinsing it with water, the unique bitter taste of Chinese medicine was still difficult to suppress.
Li Yansheng came out and saw the girl rushing into the bathroom. He put down the bowl in his hand and followed her. He saw her retching with her hands on the sink.
In the mirror, she lowered her head, her hair slightly messy and a few strands scattered. Her eyes were filled with natural tears, and the area around her eyes was red.
This look is really delicate.
Li Yansheng walked over and patted her on the back, asking, "How is it?"
Lin Shutang took the tissue next to him and wiped the water off his face, then turned back and said, "It's okay."
After leaving the house, I saw a glass of honey water on the table. Aunt Lu had gone to bed, and there were only two of us here, so it was obvious who made the honey water.
Lin Shutang held the cup, which was just the right temperature. She took a sip to suppress the bitterness in her mouth and said, "Thank you."
On the coffee table, Li Yansheng's phone rang. He picked it up. Before answering, he looked at Lin Shutang and said, "Go upstairs and sleep after you finish drinking. Don't stay up late."
Lin Shutang nodded and watched him go upstairs.
He walked up the stairs with long strides. The phone was already connected, and his deep voice could be heard in the hall. When he spoke to his subordinates about work, he lost some of his usual gentleness and sounded more authoritative.
Lin Shutang looked at the cup in his hand. This seemed like something that two people had done, but since the two things happened so close in time, there was no sense of disconnection.
A man in his thirties is more mature than a man in his twenties and younger than a man in his forties. He is at ease at work and seems to be thoughtful and careful in everything in life.
Lin Shutang thought, although outsiders may think his success is due to his family's support, in her eyes, his success is too normal. Even without a family, he can still achieve some things, it's just a matter of time.
