"Jiang Kefan, you've gone too far!" Amid the students' gasps, Teacher Xia Tian realized what was happening and immediately criticized Jiang Kefan, but Jiang Kefan didn't react much.
Looking around at his classmates, the sighs and murmurs vanished without a trace, as if nothing had ever happened. Seeing this, Jiang Kefan's expression improved slightly.
However, when Jiang Kefan stepped on the snacks on the ground, his brows furrowed slightly. He stared at them for a while before snapping out of his daze and kicking the snacks away from his feet.
Then, ignoring Teacher Xia's shouts, he simply strode out of the classroom. Looking at the empty corridor, his heart sank, and he could no longer remain calm.
His once elegant steps vanished in an instant; he panicked. He began to run towards the school gate, seemingly afraid that she wouldn't know he was searching for her. He unconsciously called out, but only to try and stop her: "Li Younan! Li Younan!"
Li Younan stopped abruptly. She turned around and could still hear his voice, but she didn't see him. She knew he was looking for her, and she knew that as long as she didn't leave, he would definitely find her.
But she couldn't. She smiled towards the direction the sound came from, a smile that seemed somewhat sad. Slowly, she stopped smiling, turned around again, and walked step by step toward the school gate.
"Li Younan!" This time the voice was very close to her, as if it were right behind her, but she couldn't turn around. Her steps only paused for a moment before she started walking again.
Seeing that she showed no sign of stopping, Jiang Kefan grew anxious. He rushed forward, grabbed her hand, and called her name again: "You Nan?"
Li Younan's hand visibly trembled for a moment, but it was only for a moment before she returned to normal. Then there was a deathly silence, and the two of them remained in that position for quite a while.
After taking a breath, Li Younan finally turned her head to meet Jiang Kefan's eyes. However, when she saw the fine sweat on his forehead, all her words were stuck in her throat, and she couldn't say a word.
The two looked at each other as if they were the only two people left in the world, but Li Younan felt that she was just a burden, a burden that would make him suffer, and she did not want to be one.
With her clear eyes closed, Li Younan used all her strength but still couldn't shake off Jiang Kefan's hand. As if he had anticipated this, he increased his strength the moment she tried to shake him off.
Li Younan hissed in pain. Jiang Kefan saw her furrowed brows and immediately loosened his grip on her hand. However, Li Younan took the opportunity to break free from him and ran a few meters away.
This time, however, Jiang Kefan did not chase after him again. Instead, he spoke slowly, his tone neither warm nor cold: "You Nan, I just want a reason, a reason for your departure."
These words reached Li Younan's ears and struck her heart, but she didn't speak or turn around. Instead, she strode forward toward the school gate, and the distance between them grew ever wider...
No one saw the mist welling up in her eyes after hearing his words, nor did anyone see the tears streaming down her face like an unstoppable string of pearls. She felt wronged too, but she was even more afraid of him feeling wronged.
She left. Even though he pleaded with her to stay, she still left. Jiang Kefan slumped to the ground, buried his head in his chest, and his shoulders trembled involuntarily. Tears fell one by one onto the ground.
"Li Younan, you're at the bottom again this time! Have you even studied properly?!" The teacher's pig-like scream echoed from the art class. After glaring at Li Younan a few more times, she left.
School had already ended long ago, and Li Younan was the only one left in the art class. She raised her head, which had been hanging down, her face full of exhaustion. She mocked herself inwardly, realizing that changing classes had made her life even more miserable than if she hadn't changed.
But none of that could compare to him. Li Younan looked out the window at the world. At least he and she were in the same school and could breathe the same air. That was enough for her. She dared not hope for anything else.
His smiling face seemed to appear on the window, a smile as bright and sunny as the one she had seen before, making her smile involuntarily as well. But when she reached out to touch it, it all vanished.
Since she and he had no further connection, she had countless fantasies like this. She knew it was all fake, but apart from that, she really didn't know how to suppress her longing for him.
There is one person she can never forget, that is Jiang Kefan; there is one person she misses terribly, that is also Jiang Kefan. As she thought about him, Li Younan clutched her chest. That place hurt so much, as if countless knives were cutting into her, making it hard for her to breathe. Tears welled up in her eyes...
"Fanfan, you..." Jiang Hua's voice was interrupted by the sound of the door closing before she could finish speaking. She glanced at the tightly closed door, sighed, and slowly went downstairs.
As soon as she came downstairs, she saw Gu Yiming sitting calmly on the sofa. Anger instantly welled up inside her. She sat down opposite him and launched into a tirade: "Fanfan hasn't been to school since he came back last time. No matter how much we try to persuade him, he won't go. And you, as his father, aren't you worried? If…"
Before Jiang Hua could launch into her long-winded explanation, Gu Yiming wisely waved his hand at her: "Don't worry, there's always a way." He deliberately left the rest unsaid, then took a leisurely sip of tea.
But when he met Jiang Hua's gaze, he immediately backed down and said what he was thinking: "Fanfan is so smart that he doesn't need to go to school. He's my son, and I'm very confident in that. If you're really worried, we can just find a tutor."
After hearing Gu Yiming's idea, Jiang Hua felt that her worldview had been turned upside down. She gave him a dirty look and went upstairs again to knock on Jiang Kefan's door.
Unlike the previous times when he kept the door closed, Jiang Kefan opened it, but only through a small hole. His cold voice came from the hole: "Mom, if you want to persuade me, I would advise you to give up this idea. I will never change my mind."
Without waiting for Jiang Hua's response, Jiang Kefan closed the door. By the time Jiang Hua realized what was happening, the door was already locked tight. She could only vent her anger by knocking on the door and calling his name, "Jiang Kefan!"
Jiang Kefan found Jiang Hua too annoying, so he simply put on his headphones. Since she left, there was only one song on his playlist, which was her favorite song. It was as if only in this way could he deceive himself.
