Chapter 667 Taking an Inch and Wanting a Mile

"Are you satisfied now?" Gu Yiming said irritably.

"I'm already injured, can you please stop being sarcastic and cynical towards me?" Jiang Shiwan felt wronged, feeling that she had sacrificed so much for him, yet he still complained about her.

Seeing that she still didn't seem to know her mistake, Gu Yiming got angry, but he couldn't show it for fear of being accused of bullying a patient. So he simply turned his back to her, stood by the window, and watched the people coming and going outside. Jiang Shiwan seemed to be possessed; even though he ignored her, she kept chattering on and on. Gu Yiming felt like hundreds of mosquitoes were buzzing in his head, and his face grew increasingly grim.

“I’ve already notified your family. I’ll leave once they arrive,” Gu Yiming, who had been silent until now, suddenly said.

At this moment, Jiang Shiwan was stunned and didn't know what to say to stop him. Actually, wasn't all she did just to get his attention? But he was always thinking about how to "force" her away, which made her very frustrated.

Looking at the man in front of her, his tall and imposing figure turned away from her, preferring to look at the scenery outside the window rather than face her, made her very sad. She asked mournfully, "Why are you so cold to me? You weren't like this before." She just couldn't believe that things between them had come to this.

"I thought I had made myself very clear, but you are still stubbornly unconvinced. What else can I say?" Gu Yiming did not want to explain any further.

Just then, there were sounds of people moving in the corridor, indicating that quite a few people had arrived. Sure enough, the Jiang family had all come. Jiang's mother said with a pained voice, "Shiwan, what happened to your leg? You were fine this morning, and now you're in the hospital." Her voice was loud and exaggerated.

Jiang Shiwan glanced at Gu Yiming, then lowered her head and said softly, "It's nothing, it's not Yiming's fault. It was my own carelessness, he didn't do it on purpose." These words sounded like she was speaking up for Gu Yiming, but to others, it sounded like Gu Yiming was at fault. So, the two elders of the Jiang family immediately concluded that he was the one who caused it, and they were very angry.

Watching Jiang Shiwan put on an act, Gu Yiming couldn't help but sneer, but he had no evidence and couldn't defend himself. Seeing that he was in the wrong, Jiang's father seized the opportunity to make demands. He had long coveted the land in the western suburbs that Gu Yiming owned. So he deliberately changed the subject, saying, "Since Shiwan's leg is like this because of you, don't you think you should offer some compensation? We can't let her leg be injured for nothing."

Judging from Jiang's father's expression, Gu Yiming knew what wicked scheme he was plotting. He didn't expose him, but said with a half-smile, "Oh, so what do you think we should do about this?"

Knowing things were looking promising, Jiang's father was secretly pleased, even quite pleased with himself, never expecting things to go so smoothly. He couldn't help but smile, his eyes crinkling, and said, "Don't you have a lot of land? I'm not greedy, just give me the one in the western suburbs, I just happen to need it." He said it so casually, as if it were rightfully his, and said he needed it—that was obvious, countless people would fight tooth and nail for that piece of land.

The lack of evidence doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Gu Yiming was simply too lazy to waste his breath. However, Jiang's father was too shameless to even make such a demand; his appetite was far too large. He scoffed, "What makes you think I'll agree to your conditions? Who gave you the confidence that Jiang Shiwan's leg could buy so much? You're getting old, and your skin is getting thicker and thicker. I'm not going to give you any compensation." With that, he left without any politeness.

Jiang's father was so angry that his face turned red. He pointed at the departing figure, unable to utter a word for a long time. It was Jiang's mother who scolded him for him: "This man is too arrogant. He hurt someone and still thinks he's right, without offering any compensation. How did things turn out like this?"

"That's right, I can't just let this go. I must get that piece of land in the western suburbs." Jiang's father roared, almost jumping up and down.

Gu Yiming sat in his car downstairs at the hospital, pondering the whole process. He looked up at Jiang Shiwan's ward, gave a cold laugh, and drove away.

The next day, before Jiang's father could cause any more trouble, Gu Yiming arrived on his own. The Jiang family of three was delighted to see him. Jiang Shiwan assumed he was worried about her and had come to visit. Jiang's father, however, was still preoccupied with the matter at hand, thinking he could bring it up again later. But their joy was premature; Gu Yiming had come with evidence.

"About the land I mentioned yesterday?" Jiang's father asked impatiently before he could say anything.

Gu Yiming genuinely admired his determination to still bring up the land, but things were destined to disappoint him. He said calmly, "Don't talk to me about the land again. Whatever I say, you won't get it."

“You’re so heartless! My daughter can’t even walk anymore, and you’re still saying things like that. No, you have to give me an explanation,” Jiang’s mother said firmly.

Seeing Jiang Shiwan's expression, Gu Yiming tacitly approved of her parents' actions. He didn't expect her to speak up for him; after all, she was the one who orchestrated it all. Now that she was pushing her luck and trying to make demands, she shouldn't blame him for being ruthless. He took out a USB drive, stared at Jiang Shiwan, and said calmly, "This is the CCTV video evidence from yesterday when the incident happened. The whole process was captured by the security cameras at the company entrance. She deliberately caused trouble and walked right into it; it has nothing to do with me."

When Jiang Shiwan turned around in disbelief, her father felt embarrassed. Her expression suggested that things were just as Gu Yiming had said. He angrily asked, "Tell me the truth. Did you start this? Why did you crash into someone's car? It's outrageous!"

"I... I didn't mean to," Jiang Shiwan tried to argue.

"How dare you say that? You actually did something like this! You're making me so angry! Can't you stop embarrassing me?" Jiang's father was actually trying to save face, otherwise, where would he put his old face? He had really tried to steal a chicken but ended up losing the rice instead.

He had originally planned to find a place to show him the video, but he didn't even have the courage to watch it, which meant he probably knew what was going on. Uninterested in listening to his rant anymore, Gu Yiming shook his head and left the ward. These matters were no longer his concern. He could pay for the medical expenses if needed, but the Jiang family wouldn't want that small sum.

Just as Gu Yiming was lost in thought, Jiang Shiwan's attending physician suddenly rushed into her ward with a report in hand. Gu Yiming felt strange, so he went back to see what was going on, and then heard the doctor say, "Ms. Jiang, it turns out that we made a mistake when we examined your leg. Your leg is not a normal fracture, it's very serious, and I'm afraid it's incurable. You will never be able to stand up again."

Jiang Shiwan glanced at Gu Yiming out of the corner of her eye, feigning shock. She seemed unable to accept the blow and broke down, screaming, "Ah, I don't believe it! Why is God so cruel to me? What am I going to do now?" Her acting was flawless; she was truly a skilled actress. Everyone believed it was real, but only she knew that the doctor had been bribed, and it was all a lie.
