"This is so unfair! How could something like this happen so suddenly?" Jiang's mother cried uncontrollably, unable to bear the blow. Jiang's father, listening nearby, was also shocked and heartbroken, but he didn't wail like his mother. He only sighed bitterly.
The news was indeed sudden, and Gu Yiming hadn't expected the outcome to be so serious. It was originally just a common fracture, and he was certain he had braked in time that day, preventing any irreparable harm. Although he was puzzled, what did a hospital matter now?
Jiang Shiwan originally intended to make Gu Yiming feel guilty and treat her better, so she created this plot point, but she clearly made a mistake. Gu Yiming didn't seem to care much about her crippled legs; he only expressed slight regret that she would have to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair at such a young age, showing no emotional reaction whatsoever.
He didn't even blink as he watched Jiang Shiwan frantically smashing things within reach, let alone offer any comfort. She wasn't his woman, so he had no obligation to coax her. Besides, in the end, she brought this all on herself.
"Don't despair too much, there may still be a chance. The current situation is only a temporary conclusion," the doctor reassured him.
"Get out, get out of here, I don't want to hear you talk." Jiang Shiwan grabbed something and threw it at the doctor, scaring him into retreating.
Feeling that his presence was superfluous, Gu Yiming decided there was no need to stay any longer. He said to Jiang's father, "Take good care of her, and I hope you can get over this soon. That's all." He left until he could no longer hear Jiang Shiwan's cries. After he left, Jiang Shiwan quieted down, because there was no need to continue the act. Her parents simply assumed she had had enough and was tired of making a scene.
"If you're tired, lie down and rest. Don't worry, Mom and Dad will help you figure something out," Jiang's mother comforted her with heartache. Jiang Shiwan didn't say anything, but obediently lay down and closed her eyes to rest.
A few days later, Jiang Shiwan was discharged from the hospital and could recuperate at home. However, the day after her discharge, she had her driver take her to Gu Yiming's company. Taking advantage of her injured leg, which Gu Yiming couldn't easily refuse, she kept trying to pester him. The driver parked the car, pushed her into the elevator, and then pushed her into Gu Yiming's office, considering his mission complete before leaving alone. Seeing Jiang Shiwan's determined efforts despite her disability, Gu Yiming was quite "admiring" of her. Actually, he was incredibly annoyed, but couldn't just have her removed.
The secretary brought Jiang Shiwan a cup of coffee, and the assistant nodded politely to her before turning and leaving. Gu Yiming, however, completely ignored her presence and buried himself in his work.
"Did you hear me? Let's go have lunch together." Jiang Shiwan kept trying to find topics to talk about, but Gu Yiming pretended not to hear her and didn't stop what he was doing for a second.
Feeling resentful at being ignored like this, Jiang Shiwan was at a loss for what to do. She pushed her wheelchair to the floor-to-ceiling window, where she could see almost the entire city below—it was spectacular. Of course, from this height of thirty stories, looking down at the pedestrians who appeared to be nothing more than ants, one could imagine that falling from here would surely result in being smashed to pieces.
Jiang Shiwan's eyes darted around, and she secretly curled her lips into a slight smile. Suddenly, her expression changed. She angrily accused, "Do you have to treat me like this? You can't even be bothered to say a word. If you don't talk to me properly and ignore my existence, I'll jump off this cliff." She kept moving away, looking genuinely dangerous.
"Don't be impulsive. If you move around again and fall, you'll really die." Gu Yiming stood up from his office chair with a hint of anger. He didn't want anyone to die for no reason.
Seeing that he was finally taking her seriously, Jiang Shiwan was secretly delighted and continued to threaten, "Then will you get along well with me and talk to me?"
What else could he do but agree? Gu Yiming wanted to curse, but he suppressed his anger and said, "I'll listen to whatever you say, but please move away from the French windows, okay?"
"Can we have lunch together?" Jiang Shiwan looked at him expectantly. If he hesitated even slightly, she would go crazy, "You were lying to me after all. You don't want to see me at all. You wish I would jump off this cliff. I might as well just die."
"Can you calm down? You never used to act like a shrew, making things difficult for others and tormenting yourself like this. Are you crazy?" Gu Yiming's good temper had been completely worn down, and his words were not very pleasant.
"I was forced into this. If you had been nicer to me, things wouldn't have turned out like this. Now my legs are useless, I'm practically half dead. I might as well be dead." Jiang Shiwan is acting like a madwoman now. If things don't go her way, she threatens to jump off a building. Gu Yiming is at his wit's end and has no choice but to give in.
"As you wish, I'll grant you whatever you want to do now, provided I finish my work. So please stay quiet for a while, and I'll do as you say, okay?" Gu Yiming decided to calm her down first and deal with other things later.
Seeing that he was completely helpless against her, Jiang Shiwan was smug and secretly chuckled to herself. She knew this trick would work. Next, she would approach him step by step, her plan being to slowly win him back. She would come every day from now on; she didn't believe he wouldn't be tempted. What Jiang Hua could do, she believed she could do too.
Shouting also takes energy. Even when she was acting, she got tired. She said coquettishly, half-jokingly, "Ouch, my hand just touched something, it hurts. Come and push me over there. I don't want to stay by the window all the time, it's windy."
Now she complains about the wind being too strong; the way she acted just now, it seemed like ten oxen couldn't pull her back. Although he was complaining inwardly, he was helpless against her request. He had already agreed, so of course he couldn't go back on his word immediately, otherwise she would have another fit of pique.
"How about I push you outside to chat with some people? I'm busy and won't be able to respond to you in time, and you'll get bored." Gu Yiming tried to get her to leave the office.
Of course, it was impossible. Jiang Shiwan refused; she insisted on staying in the office with him. The male lead was disgusted by her relentless pestering; he hadn't expected her to be so shameless. He had no choice but to let her have her way, allowing her to throw a tantrum in the office.
Two people huddled together by the door, their ears pressed against it in unison, trying to hear as much as possible. After a while, only Jiang Shiwan's rambling remained. The male assistant then pulled Xu Wei to the break room.
"Why are you pulling me? Let's listen a little longer and see what trouble she can cause." Xu Wei looked disgusted. The main reason was that she had a crush on Gu Yiming, and she definitely couldn't stand seeing another woman in the same room with him, but she had no right to interfere.
