"Gu Jingtian, could you pour me a glass of water? I'm thirsty."
There was no response, and Jiang Hua felt a little frustrated. He had promised to come back and spend the New Year holiday with her; had he broken his promise again? Although she hadn't seen him leave, she wasn't sure if he was still home. She sighed softly, her head bowed, looking just like a dejected cat.
"I just didn't reply to you, is it really necessary to act like this?" He could hear her ordering him around from a distance, so he thought she was really lazy and decided to ignore her, but his hands were behaving very honestly.
After pouring the water, Gu Jingtian, as if possessed, walked to her room. Seeing her dramatic change in expression through the crack in the door, he couldn't help but find it amusing. Having no other choice, he pushed open the door and teased her a bit before Jiang Hua could get out of bed to pour her own water.
Upon hearing his voice, Jiang Hua's eyes lit up. Looking up, she saw Gu Jingtian holding a glass of water, smiling and staring intently at her. "Fine," she thought, "how dare you deceive my feelings." Taking the water, Jiang Hua angrily drank it all, then turned away, ignoring him, and returned to her computer to start her game.
Gu Jingtian shrugged helplessly at the child's behavior, knowing she had been playing the game for a long time and it was time to rest. However, seeing that the game had already started, he didn't want to stop her. So he got on the bed, sat behind her, and wrapped his arms around her.
Jiang Hua was stunned by the sudden action and didn't even realize the game had started. Gu Jingtian ignored her and put one arm around her waist while the other hand on the keyboard, beginning to "operate" just as well as she did.
"You control the mouse well, and we'll work together. You've been playing for a long time, so I'll help you this round. Just lean against me and move the mouse."
With Gu Jingtian's warm breath and deep, captivating voice in her ear, Jiang Hua mechanically manipulated the mouse. It took her a long time to catch up with his typing speed. Watching his god-like skills, Jiang Hua secretly exclaimed in amazement, "Gu Jingtian, haven't you never played this game before? How can you play it so well?"
As a seasoned veteran gamer, Jiang Hua suddenly felt incredibly inferior after seeing his "operations." But his answer was even more infuriating, leaving her speechless.
"Look at you playing it, you've rehearsed it in your head."
Okay, you're a pro. Compared to Gu Jingtian, Jiang Hua felt like a frog in a well all this time. Compared to him, she was just a complete newbie. She was only better than some complete noobs because of her gaming experience.
After watching him completely crush his opponent, Jiang Hua decided to uninstall the game. So what if she spent a lot of money? She was going to be a spendthrift. If Gu Jingtian couldn't afford to support her, she could find someone else. For example, Old Wang next door would be quite nice.
Because of the Chinese New Year, Jiang Hua was summoned back to the Jiang family. Hearing that Jiang Shiwan had also recovered and returned, Jiang Hua was extremely reluctant. However, since she bore the surname Jiang, she was still considered a member of the Jiang family. Normally, it was reasonable for her to make excuses not to go back, but since it was the New Year, she still had to return to the Jiang family.
Jiang Hua didn't need to worry about Gu Jingtian being lonely at home alone, because she was also going back to her family. There weren't many holidays in a year, and he was bound to go home for a long break. As they left, they said their sweet goodbyes, completely unaware that a conspiracy was about to unfold around them.
After returning to the Jiang family home, Jiang Hua put away her unserious demeanor, which she only displayed in front of Gu Jingtian, and instead put on a gentle smile before pushing open the door. Unexpectedly, she saw Ye Muchen at the Jiang family home.
Gone is the joy. Jiang Hua frowns slightly, meets his melancholy eyes, and asks indifferently, "Why are you here?"
Ye Mucheng smiled bitterly. Had they become so estranged? He was hurt by the rejection of his advances and had planned to disappear for a while. But unexpectedly, Jiang's mother suddenly invited him to the Jiang family and promised that she would have a chance to win Jiang Hua back.
He had been hesitant at first, but upon hearing this, he happily agreed, hoping for the best, and arrived on time. However, he hadn't expected Jiang Hua to be so cold towards him. How could he possibly face her?
A torrent of bitterness welled up inside him, choking him and unable to be released. His eyes and brows were filled with sorrow; even his usually raised eyebrows drooped, a sight that tugged at the heartstrings. It was this melancholy expression that had initially captivated Jiang Hua. But things had changed; they could never go back.
Before they could say anything, Jiang's parents had already stepped forward to warmly welcome Ye Mucheng. He barely had time to speak half a word to Jiang Hua before being dragged towards the dining room by the two elders.
"You guys eat first, I'm not feeling well, so I'll go upstairs first." Jiang Hua really disliked seeing those hypocritical faces at the dinner table, especially Jiang Shiwan's. So she just drank some water and went upstairs to her bedroom in the Jiang family home.
Hearing her words, Ye Muchen became somewhat worried and was about to go check if she was truly unwell when he was stopped by the still-enthusiastic Jiang family members with a few words. Out of politeness, Ye Muchen did not insist, but his gaze remained fixed on Jiang Hua's room on the second floor.
Jiang Hua tossed and turned restlessly in her bed, wondering if meeting Ye Muchen at the Jiang family home was intentional. If so, what was their purpose?
After thinking about it for a long time without finding a solution, Jiang Hua began to miss Gu Jingtian. Unbeknownst to her, drowsiness was creeping over her, and just as her eyes were about to close, she was still murmuring to herself.
"Gu Jingtian, it's so boring here, I want to go back... When are you coming to pick me up?"
As her consciousness grew increasingly hazy, Jiang Hua slowly drifted off to sleep. However, without Gu Jingtian beside her, Jiang Hua didn't sleep as soundly. Just as her breathing became even, she realized someone had secretly opened her room door, only to leave after a long while, and then locked it again.
Presumably, the visitor has ill intentions.
Sunlight streamed into Jiang Hua's bedroom, and a ray of light fell directly on her face. Feeling slightly hot, she frowned and slowly opened her eyes. Still not fully awake, she raised her hand to shield her eyes from the sunlight, squinted, and got up, rubbing her slightly throbbing temples.
She had only drunk some water yesterday and never expected to sleep until the next morning. As she scratched her head and prepared to get up, she touched something on her left. When she looked to her left, she couldn't help but twitch her lips.
Seeing Ye Muchen sleeping soundly, Jiang Hua's headache worsened. How did he get in? She had no recollection of it. She sighed, gently nudged him, and seeing no reaction, increased the pressure on her hand.
No matter how much force she used, Ye Muchen's brows didn't furrow even slightly, making her wonder if the person sleeping in her bed was a corpse that had already passed away. She tremblingly placed a finger under his nose, closing her eyes, afraid to look at the truth. Only when she felt his breathing did Jiang Hua's heart finally settle down.
