Chapter 29 Detective Case: Kurosawa Unveils the Mystery Online
Kurosawa Jin silently read the words on the card.
To Officer Kurosawa:
A sorcerer in the darkness is about to take away six lost lambs today and tomorrow. So, how should the self-proclaimed messenger of justice respond?
Dear messenger of justice, the magician eagerly awaits your participation and believes you will put on a magnificent performance!
The lost lamb is bleating on the edge of a cliff. Dear messenger, if you don't hurry, you'll be kneeling and confessing to the goddess of time!
From Phantom
“Phantom!” Kurosawa Jin looked at the black words on the white paper and felt that the name was somewhat familiar.
“There’s more on the back,” said Takamoto Chosuke, seeing the words on the back.
It was written on the back:
"Foolish, hypocritical lackeys,"
Stardust from the heavens is about to descend upon the earth.
A magnificent Milky Way descends.
They converge into a cold mirror.
Swans dance gracefully on the mirror.
And the great magician is on the orange-red horizon.
Awaiting the bloody celebration!
"What...what does this mean?" Takamoto Chosuke frowned.
It's like this again. This kind of mystery-solving case is really rare. Kurosawa Jin thought to himself, carefully considering each word as he pondered a few words that were hard to understand.
"This style of writing is really a headache!" Inspector Megure sighed.
With the titles of "magician" and "messenger of justice" being used repeatedly, Inspector Megure felt outdated.
Riddler, get out of Beika Town!!!
"What is this?" Jingxia Yao finished questioning Miss Qiuya and rushed back, only to see the group looking worried, so he couldn't help but ask.
"See for yourself." Kurosawa Jin handed the card to Inoshita Yo.
He looked up and saw a beautiful woman with long, straight black hair, wearing a pure white dress, and her eyes were slightly red. Behind Inoshita Yao was a woman with long, straight black hair and slightly red eyes.
She must be Miss Qiuya.
"Wow, is this murderer some kind of chuunibyou (middle school syndrome) patient? Tsk tsk!" Jingxia Yao remarked.
"Why did he only write to Jin?" He had a bad feeling, sensing that this matter was not good for Kurosawa Jin.
Takamoto Chosuke interjected, "The killer may continue to kill, and these cards can be seen as his provocation to the police."
"Yes, from the 'six lambs' above, we can see that the murderer will kill six more people. We must find the murderer within the next two days, and the sooner the better!" Inoshita Yao said with unusual seriousness.
"Um, have you found any clues about who killed my friend?" A soft, sweet voice came from the side, and Miss Qiuya asked timidly.
Her gaze was fixed on Kurosawa Jin, perhaps captivated by his good looks.
"Miss Akiya, we will definitely catch the criminal, don't worry!" Inspector Megure reassured her.
He turned to Kurosawa Jin and entrusted him with an important task, "Brother Kurosawa, it seems this case will depend on you!"
"Inspector Megure, I already have an idea." Kurosawa Jin revealed a confident smile; nothing could stop him from revealing the truth.
"Really!" Inspector Megure exclaimed with delight.
"I need a map, Yao. Go get the car." Kurosawa Jin said as he walked away, tossing the car keys to Inoshita Yao.
"Brother Kurosawa, where are we going?" Inspector Megure, accompanied by Chosuke Takamoto, quickly followed behind Kurosawa.
"Inspector Megure, let's go to Kimura River."
By this time, everyone had already walked out the door. Kurosawa Jin borrowed a map from a policeman and quickly got into his Porsche.
As the young master of the Kurosawa Group, how could he not own a car?
Jingxia Yao drove ahead cheerfully, asking as he went, "Jin, why are we going to that river?"
“You forgot, that river is known as the Little Milky Way, which matches the ‘Milky Way’ in the riddle.” Kurosawa Jin’s eyes were fixed on the map, scanning the locations along the river near Kimura.
Another reason for choosing Kimura River is that there is a Kimura Ice Rink next to it.
His gaze was fixed on the words "Kimura Ice Rink" on the map, while on the opposite bank of the river, the name of a hotel was marked.
"Ah Yao, go to the Elizabeth Hotel."
“Alright!” This time, Inoshita Yo didn’t ask any questions. He knew that he just needed to do as Kurosawa Jin said, and he wouldn’t make a mistake.
At the same time, Kurosawa Jin picked up his phone and dialed Inspector Megure's number, while Inspector Megure and Takamoto Chosuke were following behind Kurosawa Jin and his group in a car.
"Hey, Kurosawa!" Inspector Megure's voice came from the other end of the phone.
“Inspector Megure, at the next intersection, you head north to Kimura Ice Rink, while Inoshita Yo and I will cross the bridge to the Elizabeth Hotel!” Kurosawa Jin said in a very fast tone.
"Remember to be quick, the next murder location might be there." Kurosawa Jin looked out the window, the afterglow of the setting sun painting the entire western sky with orange-red hues.
"Okay, Takamoto, turn right to Kimura Ice Rink! Hurry!" Megure shouted, and Takamoto Chosuke sped up.
The riddle's descriptions of "a cold mirror" and "dancing gracefully on the surface" fit perfectly with the description of an ice rink, and coincidentally, the Kimura Ice Rink is located next to the Kimura River, with all the details matching up.
As for "the great magician on the orange-red horizon," Kurosawa Jin speculated that this self-proclaimed phantom might be on the top floor of the Elizabeth Hotel.
The river flows from north to south, with the Kimura Ice Rink on the east bank and the Elizabeth Hotel on the west bank.
Now, as evening falls and the sunset descends, the color of the western sky perfectly matches the "orange-red horizon".
You can see the entire ice rink from the rooftop of the hotel building, and if all goes as expected, the Phantom is there.
"Biu—" The Porsche drifted into the parking space and came to a smooth stop in front of the Elizabeth Hotel building.
"Ah Yao, you wait here!" Kurosawa Jin opened the car door, got out, and plunged into the hotel lobby without looking back.
Upon seeing the dashing and debonair Kurosawa Jin, the receptionist greeted him warmly, "Hello, sir, are you here to book a room?"
"No!" Kurosawa Jin didn't waste any words, snapped open his police manual, and explained his purpose.
"Police officer, I need to go to the roof of this building now. I hope you can cooperate!"
"Okay...okay!" The receptionist's expression changed drastically upon seeing the police handbook. She didn't dare to delay for a moment and tried to lead Kurosawa Jin to the elevator.
To everyone's surprise, Kurosawa asked, "Where are the stairs?"
"Huh? It's...it's over there." The receptionist hesitated for a moment before pointing to the door next to the elevator.
"Thank you!" After saying that, Kurosawa Jin ran over.
There's no such thing as waiting for the elevator; in those few minutes, he would have already reached the top floor!
Meanwhile, Inspector Megure and Chosuke Takamoto drove to the Kimura Ice Rink, and the two of them rushed into the rink as soon as they got out of the car.
Inside the ice rink, there was not a single person in places that should have been crowded.
"How come there's no one here?" Takamoto Chosuke said in confusion, feeling very strange.
"Takamoto, look over there, there's someone." Inspector Megure pointed to the center of the ice rink.
There lay a man dressed in a suit, looking like a working-class man, with his hands folded over his abdomen, just like the previous victims.
The venue was decorated in the same way, with candles and a six-pointed star...
"Oh no, I'm too late!" Without thinking, Inspector Megure rushed inside, only to trip and fall flat on his face.
"Ouch!" he cried out in pain.
"Inspector Megure, here are two pairs of ice skates!" Keen-eyed Chosuke Takamoto ran over carrying the skates.
The two pairs of shoes were placed there neatly, as if they had been waiting for them.
"But I can't ice skate!" Inspector Megure climbed up from the ice.
"Then I'll go take a look." Takamoto Chosuke had already put on his clothes, and with a kick of his leg, he lightly glided away.
"Wow! I didn't know Takamoto could ice skate!" Inspector Megure exclaimed, watching Takamoto Chosuke's figure disappear into the distance.
Seeing Takamoto Chosuke approach the man, he cautiously checked his breathing, and after a moment, shook his head helplessly.
"Hey, Takamoto, how's it going?" Inspector Megure called out from afar.
Takamoto Chosuke turned his head and replied, "He's already dead!"
──
In the stairwell of the Elizabeth Hotel, the physically gifted Jin Kurosawa climbed five or six floors at a time, going from the 1st to the 18th floor without slowing down or even panting.
The icons on the wall changed from 1F to F18 in the blink of an eye; victory was in sight, and the stairs had come to an end.
The wooden door on the top floor was just a stone's throw away, and it was open, as if it were specially waiting for Kurosawa Jin's arrival.
"Whoosh whoosh whoosh—"
As soon as the door opened, the wind from the rooftop immediately hit his handsome face, his half-long silver hair flying wildly and slightly obscuring Kurosawa Jin's vision.
On the empty rooftop, there was a person wearing a mask and a cloak. The mask was very distinctive, half white and half black.
"Hello, Kurosawa Jin!" the man said, his long voice drifting in the wind and quietly slipping into Kurosawa Jin's ears.
His green eyes suddenly widened, and fragments of memory transformed into a cassette tape, playing in Kurosawa Jin's mind.
Dark liquid, surging water, a boastful shadowy figure...
He remembered that dream!
"It's you!"
"You remember now? Haha!" Phantom covered her mouth and laughed. "I told you we'd meet again, you from another world!"
Kurosawa Jin fumbled for the ring on his finger, not daring to let his guard down for a moment.
"Dili li li——"
"You have a phone, are you sure you don't want to answer?" Phantom pointed to the phone in Kurosawa Jin's pocket, and something magical happened: the phone floated out and flew directly into Kurosawa Jin's hand.
"Moshi moshi, Kurosawa, we're too late, he's already dead." The phone connected automatically, and Inspector Megure said regretfully.
"Okay, I understand." Kurosawa Jin hung up the phone decisively.
He stared at the phantom with hostility. "You won, you killed another person. Aren't you happy?"
"Haha, of course, but this game isn't over yet!" After saying that, the phantom turned into a cloud of black mist and drifted away with the wind.
Only one card, identical to the previous one, lay quietly on the ground.
"Hehe!" Kurosawa Jin picked up the card. Without even guessing, he knew it contained the same riddle as before.
"A hint? We don't need one!"
Kurosawa Jin calmly tore the card to shreds. If Inoshita Yo had been there, he would definitely have stopped Kurosawa Jin from tearing up the only clue.
Kurosawa Jin continued to rub the ring on his finger, muttering to himself, "I forgot to mention, I also have a cheat!"
