Chapter 113 The Boss Lady
At noon, while I was eating the takeaway that Lin Yan ordered for me as usual, Wang Qiang called me. His voice sounded a little guilty and anxious.
"Brother Rui! Um... Boss Lin seems... a little angry?"
"Ah? Angry? Lin Yan?" I was a little surprised. Lin Yan rarely brought his true emotions to work, especially in front of his subordinates.
"Yeah! Just after the interview, he suddenly started asking those new employees a bunch of very basic yet academic technical questions. They were so stunned that they broke into cold sweats! The atmosphere was so depressing!"
"This... isn't it normal to be strict? It's a technology company after all." I tried to understand.
"Well, that's what I said, but...well, this is also my fault!" Wang Qiang sighed.
"What do you mean? Lao Wang, please explain it clearly." I had a vague guess in my mind.
"Well, I... I hired a female secretary. She seemed quite motivated, sweet-talking, and good at getting along. Even though her education and major weren't quite right, I figured a secretary only needed to handle chores and coordinate schedules, so I hired her..."
The more Wang Qiang spoke, the lower his voice became.
I raised my eyebrows: "Oh? And then?" Sure enough.
"This girl... maybe because Boss Lin is young, promising, handsome, and generally gentle in his dealings with others, she... is a little too 'enthusiastic'. She's serving him tea and water, asking about his well-being, and just now she was trying to help Boss Lin organize his documents, so she got a little too close..."
Wang Qiang hesitated, "Boss Lin didn't say anything. He just turned around and took out his phone to call you. Just now, his tone was so affectionate... The smile on the girl's face froze."
I suddenly realized what was going on. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "That's what I thought! No wonder he called me out of the blue and spoke in that tone! It turns out he had other intentions!"
"But I don't know if this girl is tactless or unwilling to give up."
Wang Qiang continued his report, "Boss Lin went back to his desk to deal with something, and she came over again to ask if there was anything she could help with. Boss Lin, smiling (that smile was terrifying), started asking about some very basic technical concepts and parameters related to our products... The girl had no idea what they were, so she was completely stunned and gave a completely irrelevant answer. Boss Lin didn't get angry. He just looked at her, slowly repeating the correct answer, and then asked, 'If you don't understand all this, how can you help me with my work?'... Oh my god, the whole office was silent at that moment, and I felt so embarrassed for her!"
"Old Wang, I'm not saying anything bad about you," I said, a little speechless, "How can you be so careless when hiring people? Don't secretaries need to understand the company's business background? You're a little... dishonest."
I pointed it out to him directly.
"Fuck! Brother Rui, I was wrong! I really didn't think that much! I just saw that it was not easy for that girl... I will definitely be strict in the future! I swear!" Wang Qiang quickly admitted his mistake.
"It's not easy for you to do this for her, but who will pay for yours? This time Lin Yan solved it himself. If you recruit someone more scheming next time and cause some trouble, you will see whether Lin Yan will deal with you!" I said angrily.
"Damn, I really changed! Brother Rui, please speak to Boss Lin for me. It was my negligence this time. I promise there won't be a next time!" Wang Qiang's voice was filled with tears.
"What about the female secretary?"
"Boss Lin fired her on the spot and only gave her one month's salary in vain. The girl left in tears."
Wang Qiang sighed, "I've learned my lesson."
"...Forget it. This is your first time in charge of recruitment, so mistakes are inevitable. Just be careful next time." I finally softened my heart.
"Thank you, Brother Rui! Don't worry, I will do my best! I will never cause any trouble for you two!" Wang Qiang made repeated assurances.
After hanging up the phone, I thought about it and decided to send Lin Yan a WeChat message. I didn't mention Wang Qiang's complaint, but simply asked, "Did your interview go well today? I heard there was a little incident?"
Lin Yan quickly replied, "My wife is really well-informed. It's okay, it's already been dealt with."
Looking at the screen, I could imagine his nonchalant yet slightly disgusted expression, and I couldn't help but smile.
In the evening, Lin Yan came to pick me up for dinner on time.
The car was parked downstairs. As soon as I opened the door and got in, he grabbed me, pressed me down on the seat and kissed me.
"Honey, I miss you." He rubbed against my neck like a large dog, his voice a little tired, but more dependent.
"Alright, alright," I patted him on the back. "Boss Lin, you're the owner of a company now. You need to pay attention to your image."
"What's wrong with starting a company?"
He looked up, his eyes aggrieved. "Can't I think about my wife just because I run a company? Sometimes in the office, looking at all those data and documents, I really want you to stay right next to me. But it's a pity that you have your own things to do."
My heart warmed, and I said softly, "You can call me anytime."
"That's different," he hugged me tightly, resting his chin on the top of my head, and said in a muffled voice, "On the phone, I can only hear your voice. I want the real you to be with me."
I felt a little amused and distressed: "Lin Yan, why are you becoming more and more clingy? You weren't like this before when you worked from home."
"In the past, when I was at home, I would look up and see you playing games or sleeping on the sofa, and I would feel at ease."
He sighed, "Now I'm in that cold office, and I have to put on a stern face and set rules for them from time to time. It's tiring."
He actually piqued my curiosity: "I'm really curious about what you're like at the company. Are you particularly fierce?"
"Are you really curious?" His eyes lit up. "Then when you have time, come to the company and take a look? Is the boss lady here to inspect our work?"
"Okay," I agreed with a smile, "after I finish my thesis."
He bent down and kissed me again, and seemed to be in a much better mood: "It's settled then! Now, let's go feed my Ruirui first!"
The car started and drove towards the street as night fell.
I looked at the lights passing by the window, then looked at Lin Yan who was concentrating on driving beside me, and my heart felt peaceful.
The company is just starting out, and there will definitely be many troubles and challenges in the future, but as long as we are together, there seems to be nothing to be afraid of.
In the following days, Wang Qiang really did not let up and threw himself into his work, recruiting, training, and coordinating. He worked very hard and posted photos of corners of the company on his WeChat Moments from time to time, with captions that were very proud, making it look like he was doing the job.
Lin Yan was not idle either. He really hired a decoration team to spruce up the two floors of the company, making them bright and clean. They were equipped with green plants, leisure areas, open workstations, and some abstract paintings on the walls (I doubt he could understand them at all). It finally looked like a serious technology company.
Every time I see the "Rui Lin Technology" logo at the door, I can't help but feel a little ashamed and...secretly sweet.
I heard that most of the company's current dozen or so employees are recent college or graduate graduates, highly motivated and intelligent. It seems Wang Qiang, after his last experience, has become much more discerning in his hiring decisions, recruiting only hardworking, dedicated individuals with relevant expertise.
I will visit the company occasionally when I have time.
I don’t know if it was Lin Yan’s instruction or Wang Qiang’s big mouth promotion, but everyone in the company, from the receptionist to the technical geeks, calls me “Boss Lady” when they see me, and they do it so smoothly.
At first I was so embarrassed that I wanted to crawl into the ground, but later... later I became numb and could even nod in response without changing my expression.
Lin Yan was a completely different person at work than at home. While he might still have a hint of a smile on his face when he was scolding people, his eyes were sharp and his tone was steady, yet it carried an undeniable pressure. Every word he said hit home, enough to make someone break out in a cold sweat.
That shrewd and calculating capitalist look is a replica of Uncle Lin, worthy of being his biological son.
But as soon as I show up, he switches modes immediately.
The pair of eyes that were coldly examining their subordinates just now suddenly became gentle and sticky, as if they wanted to come over immediately, hug them, and ask about their well-being. Their energy was like that of a large loyal dog declaring its sovereignty to the world.
The employees wanted to laugh but didn't dare to, their eyes were full of gossip, thinking "I didn't expect you to be such a Mr. Lin".
