Chapter 33 Chapter 33 Eat Vinegar and Take a Walk
Pei Shuyu stared at him for a few seconds and suddenly smiled.
"You're just a kid, what do you know?" Pei Shuyu didn't know why, but he naturally rubbed Lu Hean's hair with a tone of an elder.
Lu Hean immediately grabbed Pei Shuyu's wrist as he was making trouble above his head.
He puffed his cheeks slightly, his eyes filled with grievance and a hint of helplessness at being looked down upon. "Brother! Are you still a child even though you're an adult?" He shook Pei Shuyu's wrist, trying to emphasize, "And you're only four years older than me. Four years!"
Pei Shuyu broke free and laughed at him, "One second older is still older."
"Maybe one of them is bigger than the others." Lu Hean muttered softly.
Pei Shuyu didn't hear clearly, "What did you say?"
"Nothing." Lu Hean immediately raised his head, his expression quickly switching to obedient mode. He raised his phone and shook it. "My doctor friend sent me a message. Shall we leave now?"
Then Lu Hean opened his arms towards him, showing his iconic little fangs, and smiled brightly, "I'll carry you!"
Pei Shuyu's hand, which was supporting the edge of the bed, suddenly froze, and he almost fell down: "Huh?!"
The horrifying scene of being carried face to face by Lu He'an through the streets and alleys of Haicheng flashed through his mind, and the mere thought of it made his scalp numb.
Absolutely not!
…
In the end, I didn’t hug him or carry him on my back.
After Pei Shuyu's repeated refusal, Lu Hean failed to succeed. However, he quickly obtained a lightweight wheelchair and pushed Pei Shuyu out of the cozy seaside B&B and headed to the home of the mysterious doctor friend.
On the way there, Lu Hean was unusually quiet.
He pushed the wheelchair slowly, and Pei Shuyu could feel that he pushed it steadily, avoiding all possible bumps.
But the silence behind them was like an invisible net, enveloping the two of them.
Pei Shuyu couldn't help but turn his head slightly and glance at Lu Hean behind him out of the corner of his eye.
He lowered his head slightly, with the loose hair on his forehead hanging down, covering part of his eyebrows and eyes. His thin lips were slightly pursed, and the corners of his mouth were turned downward in a subtle but clear arc.
It looked like a large dog with its tail hanging down, feeling aggrieved but not daring to say a word. Even the movement of pushing the wheelchair was cautious and a bit angry.
Pei Shuyu felt inexplicably uncomfortable.
He opened his mouth, wanting to say something to lighten the mood, like, "This wheelchair is quite nice," or "Thank you for your hard work," but the words seemed a bit forced, so he ended up just asking dryly, "Does your friend... live far away?"
Lu Hean seemed not to hear it. After several seconds, he gave a muffled "hmm" as a response.
The voice was low and listless.
Pei Shuyu: “…”
Well, this feeling of grievance is quite lasting.
But he really can't chat.
The wheelchair turned into a quiet street lined with tall palm trees and finally stopped in front of a white two-story building with a separate courtyard.
The small building has a simple style and lush greenery. The courtyard wall is covered with blooming spider plants, which sway gently in the evening breeze, exuding a tranquil atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle.
It looks like a well-kept private residence.
Lu Hean walked up and rang the doorbell.
After a while, the door opened.
A man in an off-white linen shirt and khaki slacks stood inside the door.
He looked to be about thirty years old, with a thin and tall figure, a clean and gentle face, and a pair of thin-framed glasses on his nose. The eyes behind the lenses had a calm and clear look that came from having seen thousands of things, like the water in a lake in late autumn.
The first time Pei Shuyu met him, he felt that he had a very special temperament. He had the elegance and calmness of a scholar, but also a faint sense of alienation, as if he was out of tune with the hustle and bustle around him.
This should be the doctor friend that Lu Hean mentioned.
"Are you here?" Lin Kong's gaze first fell on Lu Hean's face, and a very faint smile with understanding appeared on the corner of his mouth, as if he had already seen through the little emotion of "grievance" behind him.
Then, he turned his gaze to Pei Shuyu in the wheelchair and nodded gently, "This is Mr. Pei, right? I'm Lin Kong, please come in." His voice was not loud, and his tone was gentle, with a power that could soothe people's hearts.
"Doctor Lin, sorry to bother you." Pei Shuyu hurriedly thanked him.
Lin Kong stepped aside, his eyes sweeping over Lu Hean's still slightly puffy cheeks and the expression of "I'm still unhappy", and the smile in his eyes deepened.
He said nothing, but just reached out and naturally helped Lu Hean to push the wheelchair to push it across the threshold. There was an intimacy in his actions that needed no words.
Lu Hean subconsciously moved a little closer to Lin Kong. Although his expression was still a little awkward, the grievance seemed to melt a little under Lin Kong's calm gaze.
Pei Shuyu keenly captured the silent familiarity between the two.
"Doctor Lin, why are you living in this place?" Pei Shuyu admitted that he was just making small talk.
Just as Lu Hean was about to explain, Lin Kong spoke first: "I just suddenly got tired of my previous life and wanted to change my mood. It's quiet enough here, so I think it's good."
Come to think of it, the scenery here is beautiful, and it's not an exaggeration to consider it a place to retire. Moreover, it is far away from the jurisdiction of the alliance, which is equivalent to being away from disputes.
Whether it is overt or covert.
Pei Shuyu nodded in agreement, his tone full of envy, "Yes, this kind of life is great."
I don’t know whether he was saying this to Lin Kong or to himself.
"Brother Shuyu, do you really yearn for this kind of life?" Lu Hean leaned over and asked him. In front of Lin Kong, the two of them were so close that Pei Shuyu felt like he could kiss him just by turning his head.
Pei Shuyu blinked rapidly several times, and before he could react, Lin Kong flicked Lu Hean's forehead twice with his fingers. "Hean, I'm still here. Please restrain yourself."
The words sounded like a scolding, but there was no hint of anger in them.
Lu Hean covered his forehead and smiled back.
Pei Shuyu was a little concerned about what the relationship between the two of them was.
"You're too close to me, stay away." He blurted out the words without thinking.
Lu Hean's expression instantly fell, he stood up straight, and really moved a little further away from him.
Pei Shuyu opened his mouth but didn't know how to explain.
As night fell, a small wooden dining table in the restaurant was already set with several home-cooked dishes, including steamed fish, blanched shrimp, seasonal vegetables, and a casserole of steaming mushroom soup with a light but tempting aroma.
The light was warm, giving the tableware a warm sheen.
The three of them sat down. Lin Kong sat in the main seat, and Lu Hean naturally sat next to Pei Shuyu.
The atmosphere at the table is far less relaxed and delicious than the dishes look.
Pei Shuyu was a little distracted, his mind brimming with doubts about Lin Kong and Lu He'an's relationship. He mechanically picked up the food, his appetite seemingly diminishing.
Lu Hean remained silent. He usually talked a lot and acted a bit coquettish in front of Pei Shuyu, but now he lowered his head quietly, eating the rice in the bowl in small mouthfuls.
However, he did not forget to pick up the most tender meat from the fish belly with chopsticks for Pei Shuyu, or peel a shrimp and put it in his bowl. His movements were very natural, but he just didn't speak, and even his iconic little fangs were never revealed. The whole person was shrouded in low pressure.
Lin Kong had a clear view of the two people's conditions.
He ate his meal slowly and leisurely, occasionally asking Pei Shuyu gently about his recovery from his injuries, or chatting about the scenery of Haicheng. His words were appropriate, making the atmosphere neither too cold nor too warm.
Only when he looked at Lu Hean, there was a hint of barely perceptible indulgence in his eyes, as if he was looking at his own naughty child.
This silent intimacy and tacit understanding was like a tiny thorn piercing Pei Shuyu's heart.
He couldn't help but wonder: Was it an old acquaintance? A mentor? Or... something closer? Pei Shuyu felt strangely choked up, and his appetite worsened.
The meal ended in a subtle atmosphere.
Lin Kong had no intention of keeping the guests any longer. After briefly instructing Pei Shuyu on some precautions for recuperation, he handed Lu Hean a bag and sent them to the door.
"Thank you, Dr. Lin, for your hospitality." Pei Shuyu thanked him again.
Lin Kong smiled and nodded. His eyes moved between Pei Shuyu and Lu Hean, who was pushing the wheelchair with his head still drooping. Finally, he landed on Lu Hean and said with a touch of elder gentleness: "Alright, stop looking so sullen. Let's take Mr. Pei for a walk on the beach. The night breeze is very comfortable."
Lu Hean hummed in a depressed tone.
The wheelchair was once again moving along the quiet palm-lined street, heading towards the beach not far away.
The seaside city at night faded from the day's bustle, and the cool sea breeze blew away the lingering dullness of dinner. The sound of the waves was clearer than in the evening, crashing onto the beach and then receding, repeating over and over again, with a soothing rhythm.
Lu Hean continued to push the wheelchair silently, but his steps were very slow.
Pei Shuyu looked at the path ahead extending under the street lights, listening to the rustling sound of wheels rolling over the ground. The question that had been lingering in his mind all night, finally couldn't help but be asked in the relatively private space and with the sea breeze blowing.
"Lu Hean." He tried to make his voice sound casual. "You and Doctor Lin... seem to have a good relationship? Have you known each other for a long time?" After asking, he felt a little abrupt and added, "It seems that he takes good care of you."
The movement of pushing the wheel behind him paused.
Lu Hean didn't answer immediately. After a few seconds, he said "hmm" softly, his voice sounding a little muffled in the night.
"He..." Lu Hean seemed to be choosing his words, and his hands pushing the wheelchair tightened slightly. "He is actually... my Omega father."
"Oh, it's father..." Pei Shuyu nodded subconsciously, then suddenly realized what was happening. His body instantly stiffened in the wheelchair and he almost jumped up. "W-what?! Father...Father?!"
He turned his head suddenly and looked at Lu Hean in disbelief, his eyes wide open.
Dr. Lin? That doctor, who looked only about thirty years old, with a refined and calm demeanor, was Lu Hean's... Omega father?! The age difference... all those random guesses he had just made, that inexplicable feeling of unease in his heart... Oh my god, what was he doing...
Lu Hean was amused by his violent reaction, and the grievance and listlessness that had been shrouding his face disappeared in an instant.
He stopped his wheelchair, walked around to Pei Shuyu, squatted down, put his hands on the armrests of the wheelchair, and looked up at Pei Shuyu's face which was shocked and speechless.
The light from the street lamp fell on his face, and his beautiful eyes were once again filled with cunning and undisguised happiness, shining surprisingly brightly.
"Yes." Lu Hean said with a smile, his little fangs showing again, with a hint of pride, "My biological Omega father. He went through some things in his early years and later lived in seclusion here. I brought you here this time, firstly to see your injuries, and secondly... I wanted him to meet you."
"I was afraid you wouldn't want to come after you knew, so I didn't tell you at the beginning..." He paused, looking at Pei Shuyu who still hadn't come back to his senses, the curve of his mouth grew bigger and bigger, he moved closer, lowered his voice, and asked with a mischievous smile:
"Brother Shuyu, were you...jealous just now?"
"No..." Pei Shuyu stretched his neck and faced the dark sea, wishing the sea breeze would blow away all his embarrassment.
Lu Hean squatted in front of him, looking at his red ears and the side face that was trying to look calm, he couldn't help laughing any longer.
The laughter was clear and joyful, and it was especially clear on the quiet shore.
