Chapter 24

Chapter 24

The priest conjured up cold medicine directly. In this secluded place, the air was filled with an abundance of spiritual energy, making the medicines made from herbs particularly potent.

After taking the medicine, Ning Wensong fell into a deep sleep, and even when Chen Che manipulated her, she did not react.

After settling her in, Shen Che left his hut. Looking at the priest whose face was full of curiosity, he organized his thoughts and said, "Ning Wensong is the person I like. She is a human who turned into a cat, an exception. You know Hei Yin. That tabby cat naturally became a demon in the wild. I'll tell you the rest later."

"The priest is still the same as ever," Chen Che sighed, watching the priest's departing figure.

After the other party left, it immediately turned around and went into the hut, using its tail to pull Ning Wensong into its arms.

He'll let them rest tomorrow while he goes to set up the scene for his confession; he really can't wait.

The moon hangs high in the night sky, illuminating everyone's dreams.

The next day, all the tribesmen got up early and set up a welcoming ceremony at the market. Everyone was looking forward to the good things that Chen Che would bring back, as the things they brought back each time would be popular for ten years.

A calico cat walked lightly into the market, looked at the smiles on everyone's faces, and snorted a few times in disdain, "Why are you all so interested in what he brought back? Have you forgotten how ugly his original form was?"

You have to keep trying to curry favor with this kind of cat.

The black cat, who was busy hanging colorful flags, noticed her and said sarcastically, "Anyone who didn't know better would think you're the most powerful demon? Why are you being so sarcastic? So what if someone rejected you? What's with all this fuss?"

The calico cat froze, then retorted, "So what? That doesn't change the fact that he's ugly in his original form. Ugliness is the original sin!"

"Get lost! Don't you know everyone's annoyed with you? This is the first time I've ever thought a calico cat could be so disgusting." The surrounding cats started chattering amongst themselves.

The calico cat blushed as it listened to the jeers. It glared at the surrounding cats and ran into the forest to hide.

When Ning Wensong woke up, she was still nestled in Shen Che's fur; the cold medicine she took last night had completely cured her.

"Chen Che~ So comfortable!" Ning Wensong kept rubbing against him, feeling really safe!

"Are you feeling better? We still have a lot to do today, get up." Shen Che leaned close to Ning Wensong to check her temperature, and after making sure there were no problems, he dragged her out of bed.

"You don't need to turn into a human today, just use your cat form." Shen Che crawled out of the small house first and waited outside the door for Ning Wensong to fully wake up.

Ning Wensong was actually awake, but she was a little afraid to go out.

She woke up once in the middle of the night because Shen Che's fur was so warm. When she woke up, she heard Shen Che talking in his sleep, talking about the process and content of his confession.

She was really shy; even though it was a done deal, she just couldn't bring herself to face it.

Ning Wensong spent a while mentally preparing herself before quickly washing her face and leaving the house.

She didn't dare look at Chen Che, and asked in a low voice, "What are we going to do now?"

Chen Che glanced at Hei Yin's house not far away, then came back and dragged out a bag with his tail. "A Song, they've already gone to the market. Let's go too."

"What's in this bag?" Ning Wensong asked curiously, following behind him and trying to open it.

The bag dragged along the uneven ground, making a clattering sound, which only fueled her curiosity.

Shen Che flicked his tail, deliberately avoiding Ning Wensong's touch.

Ning Wensong: Q_Q

The cat demons live in a small town. They are quite large when they are in cat form, but small when they are in human form.

They soon arrived at the market, and as soon as Chen Che entered the target area, countless colorful flowers fell.

"Congratulations on Chen Che's return home!" A chorus of blessings echoed throughout the entire venue.

The priest emerged from the group of cats, approached Shen Che with an excited expression, then excitedly stepped past him and snatched the bag from his tail.

All the cats immediately pushed Chen Che out and gathered around the priest to see the new thing.

"Stop pushing! Stop pushing! I can't open it!" The priest's hands were squeezed so tightly that he couldn't move them at all, and he shouted.

The cats scattered again, and the priest opened the bag with trembling hands. Inside was a jumble of things: some strange bricks with words printed on them, books with strange figures, and many other trinkets.

The priest picked it up and put it down again, his brows furrowed tightly. He looked around but couldn't find Chen Che, so he sent someone to bring him back.

Ning Wensong lay on Shen Che, experiencing the cats' varying degrees of warmth and coldness.

She was genuinely stunned.

"Chen Che... could you show us how to do this?" The priest looked at the huge pile of things in front of him with annoyance.

"!" Ning Wensong stared in shock at the square tiles—mahjong tiles!

"Me! Me! Me! I'm a mahjong master! Chen Che, why didn't you tell me about these? I know all of them! Let me teach you!" She was really excited. She hadn't played mahjong in a long time, and her hands were itching to play.

Upon hearing her words, the cats immediately scattered, leaving her a flat area. They were still very interested in Ning Wensong, their new cat.

Ning Wensong only realized how inconvenient her cat form was after she had already touched the mahjong tiles. After Chen Che changed her clothes, she instantly transformed into a human. The moment her human form appeared, all the cats present were stunned, only one thought in their minds:

What an adorable person!

"Watch me demonstrate. You should know the simple words, so I'll just explain how to play. I'll start with mahjong. Let me see, there are two sets of mahjong!" Ning Wensong noticed that most of the play items here were in pairs, totaling about a dozen sets, and each set was played by at least three cats.

She looked around and found that the number of cats was just right, so that every cat could play with it. How thoughtful!

"Let me begin. Mahjong is usually played by four people. Its suits are divided into bamboo, characters, and dots..." Ning Wensong's gentle voice subdued all the cats present, and they all sat obediently to listen.

Seeing that they were going to talk for a long time, Shen Che quietly pulled the priest out of the cats and led him to hide in the grove.

"Priest, I want to ask, are the irises still there after crossing the mountain? Is the Pool of Destiny still there at the top of the mountain?" This was the question that Chen Che was most concerned about after returning this time, besides Chang Qian's matter.

The priest, wondering what was going on, wiped imaginary sweat from his brow and slowly said, "Iris flowers, they should still be blooming, right? Even if they weren't, you can still cast spells, can't you?"

He thought about the Pool of Destiny. "The Pool of Destiny has always been there. Last month, two kittens secretly went there to pledge their lives to each other and then got beaten up."

Shen Che was somewhat surprised. This was usually a matter of fate. He asked directly, "Why were you beaten?"

"...Because their parents are mortal enemies, the kind who fight the moment they meet." The priest was also a bit of a headache. Recently, the two cats had been coming to his place every day to cause trouble, and he wanted to find a way to break the fateful pact.

"Okay, then help me think of an excuse. I need to go to that mountain for a day. Tell Ning Wensong not to look for me. Be gentle with her. She can tell you about the fun things in the human world and bring them back for you next time."

Shen Che was a little worried about her, so he could only entrust her to the priest.

The priest waved his hand, "What's the big deal? We all like her. There's no killing here, so go in peace. I guess I know what you're going to do."

He rolled his eyes and chuckled, "Here's a suggestion for you. Legend has it that there's a flower called Joyful Bloom on the other side of the heavens. If you give it to your beloved, you'll be together for nine lifetimes."

Shen Che's mind stirred, and an idea came to him. "Then help me stall for a while. I don't know when I'll be able to come back."

"Hahaha, good, may your wish come true!" The priest waved goodbye and returned to the market.

Ning Wensong was still surrounded by admirers, but unlike when she left, many cats had transformed into human form and were looking at her hesitantly.

"That concludes the explanation of mahjong. Anyone interested in trying it out? Feel free to ask me anytime for answers!" Ning Wensong was in an excellent mood, feeling her heart flutter as she was surrounded by a group of furry creatures.

Four cats had already set up their seats and snatched up the mahjong tiles to start playing. Another set was taken by a family, and seeing the cats about to fight, Ning Wensong quickly stepped in to stop them, saying, "Hey, don't rush, it's not like this is the only fun one. Let me introduce you to something new! Look at this! This is called Uno..."

All the cats stared wide-eyed. The priest watched from the side, feeling that Ning Wensong should be a cat, not a human turned into a cat.

He had been observing the stars, planning to go stargazing that night.

Time passed, and by the time Ning Wensong had finished explaining the contents of the bag and clearing up all the cats' confusion, it was already evening.

The cats have turned on their nightlights in all the little houses, which flicker in the dark, making them both cute and cozy.

"Priest, where did Chen Che go? I haven't seen him all day..." Ning Wensong asked the calico cat in front of her with some unease.

"It's alright, he went to prepare things, he's safe." The priest reassured her, but a question arose in his mind. Logically speaking, nothing should be difficult for a cat demon of Chen Che's level.

——

Tianshan Mountains.

After bidding farewell to the priest, Chen Che went to the Pool of Destiny first, as he needed to ensure that the pool was intact, as this was the real focus.

Fortunately, the seal left by the ancient demon still remains here, and nothing can affect it in the slightest.

Looking at the stone tablet at the Pool of Destiny, weathered by years of wind and frost yet still standing there, he sighed with some emotion, "After all these years, it's finally time to use you."

After making sure there were no mistakes, he went to the back of Tianshan Mountain. Looking at the sparsely blooming irises and the Snow Pool not far away, the scene was beautiful. The Snow Pool had no snow and was not a pool.

Here lies a calm, waveless sea, stretching beyond the horizon.

Shen Che looked at the irises, not quite satisfied. He stood in the air, constantly chanting incantations in his mind.

In an instant, a gust of wind swept across the entire hillside, and the irises, still in bud, slowly bloomed, while the young roots buried in the ground began to grow rapidly.

An hour has passed, and the entire back hill is filled with irises, their fragrance permeating the air, with occasional petals drifting by.

Shen Che nodded repeatedly, very satisfied.

Next, we'll go find the legendary flower!
