Chapter 40

Chapter 40

The little demons behind Heng Xiaotao remained silent.

A young male demon stepped forward: "Xiao Tao disappeared for a long time for some unknown reason, and she has become so strange since she came back."

Mo Xiaoxin could tell that this little male demon was one of the calmer and more composed people among them, and the bloodstains on his face and body must belong to someone else.

After remaining silent, Leng Huai suddenly asked, "When did she disappear? How long has she been missing?"

"Just last year, he was missing for about three months."

Mo Xiaoxin asked, "Any clues?"

Leng Huai: "It seems that her demonic essence has been extracted from her."

“Demon Soul…” Mo Xiaoxin murmured.

For demons, the spirit is the soul. Just as humans have seven souls and eight spirits, demons also have them. If a person loses their spirit, they become like a walking corpse, living in a daze.

“But I see that she is sometimes lucid, so what’s going on?” Mo Xiaoxin asked.

Leng Huai: "Only half of her soul was taken away, but this half is the most crucial and the most deadly."

Leng Huai looked at Mo Xiaoxin with some surprise: "Isn't this common knowledge in the demon realm? Don't you know?"

Mo Xiaoxin felt a little guilty when Leng Huai asked her that question. She forced herself to calm down and met his scrutinizing gaze: "I've been too well protected since I was a child. Is there a problem?"

Leng Huai snorted coldly and remained silent.

The little demon continued, "My uncles and elders also disappeared for a while before. When they came back, they were acting strangely and mysteriously, but most of the time they were normal, so no one paid any attention. This time, the invasion of foreign enemies prevented them from escaping."

Mo Xiaoxin stroked the little demon's hair; it seemed his family was all gone.

These words reminded Mo Xiaoxin that she suddenly remembered the strangely behaving guests she had seen at the Ye family banquet and the screams of monsters she had heard outside the cave.

She didn't know if there was any connection between the two, but her intuition told her that this matter might be closely related to the Ye family.

The little male demon looked a bit older than Heng Xiaotao, but he was still a child. The other little demons behind him listened to him, so he must be a sensible child.

"What's your name?" Mo Xiaoxin asked.

The little demon boy replied, "My name is Yan Dun."

She smiled at Yan Dun and said, "Yan Dun, Xiao Tao is my savior. Please take good care of her for me, okay?"

Yan Dun nodded: "Your Highness, please rest assured, I will take good care of Xiao Tao."

The little demons behind him echoed, "We'll take good care of Xiao Tao too."

Mo Xiaoxin felt somewhat ashamed: "I can't protect you right now. It's dangerous for you to run around outside like this. You should hide quickly. By the way, don't enter the Demon Realm. Although the Demon Realm is not safe, it is at least vast. The Demon Realm is complicated, so don't wander around recklessly."

Yan Dun nodded, watching Mo Xiaoxin and his group leave, his eyes gleaming as he seemed to be lost in thought.

On the way back, Mo Xiaoxin thought that Leng Huai had gone to great lengths to accompany her to the Demon Realm, so she should at least thank him. She cleared her throat and said, "Leng Huai, thank you for coming with me."

Leng Huai, who was deep in thought, felt slightly uncomfortable when he heard Mo Xiaoxin's solemn thanks. He turned his head slightly to hide the corners of his mouth that were raised.

When he turned around, he had regained his usual stern expression. He glanced at Mo Xiaoxin and said, "Is the Demon Realm so terrifying that we can't even enter?"

Mo Xiaoxin was taken aback, not expecting Leng Huai to be concerned about this: "The entrance to the Demon Realm has always been extremely dangerous. I'm afraid that if they feel that the Demon Realm is not safe, they will look for a safe place everywhere and fall into the enemy's trap instead."

"Hmph, even so, why not keep them by your side?" Leng Huai stared at Mo Xiaoxin.

Mo Xiaoxin said with a serious expression, "It's not that I haven't thought about this issue, but firstly, I'm not familiar with the Demon Realm, and secondly, I don't have the ability to protect them even if they're by my side. In fact, it would be more dangerous and more likely to attract the attention of malicious people."

Leng Huai snorted coldly: "So you're blaming me for not giving you the right?"

Mo Xiaoxin was taken aback; she hadn't thought of it that way. But judging from Leng Huai's tone, was he going to give her power?

Although she was the incomparably noble Demon Queen, she did the work of a servant every day. Who in the Demon Palace would respect her?

Her eyes shone with anticipation.

Unexpectedly, Leng Huai changed the subject: "You're quite self-aware, knowing you're weak and not harming others."

Mo Xiaoxin glared angrily, clenching her fists and gesturing behind Leng Huai.

This man is still so annoying!

Leng Huai noticed Mo Xiaoxin's little movements and glanced at her sideways. Mo Xiaoxin immediately sat up straight. Perhaps she was too tired from all the changes she had experienced. After a while, she closed her eyes and fell asleep against the carriage.

Looking at Mo Xiaoxin's face, still furrowed and anxious even after she fell asleep, Leng Huai felt a pang of heartache.

Leng Huai was bewildered by the sudden surge of emotions; these were emotions he had never experienced before. He didn't know why he had such a strange feeling, as if his life had undergone a complete transformation ever since Mo Xiaoxin came into his life.

At first, he didn't realize it. He just felt that Mo Xiaoxin was always hanging around him, which made him even more annoyed by all sorts of trivial matters. But later, without realizing it, he seemed to have gotten used to Mo Xiaoxin's presence.

Mo Xiaoxin had never shown such sadness and distress before. She was always cheerful and carefree, but today's events had left her so haggard, which showed how important these relatives were to her.

Perhaps he was empathizing with her; he too had been so carefree back then…

Mo Xiaoxin was indeed so tired that she fell asleep, but in her dream, she returned to the space and talked to the system.

"System, I want to discuss something with you."

"What is it?" the system asked, munching on a watermelon.

"I'm going to spend 50 million to buy sorcery skills."

The system glanced at the balance: "This... isn't enough."

"Is there an advance payment clause in the contract?"

The system blinked, thinking that Mo Xiaoxin wouldn't read the contract carefully: "Hmm... that's correct, but interest has to be paid."

1% interest.

"Okay, let's sell the villa and get an advance of 30 million."

Mo Xiaoxin readily agreed, but she felt a little uneasy inside.

As the system operated, it exclaimed, "Mo Xiaoxin, you really have a kind heart. You're willing to spend so much money to learn magic just to help the original owner fulfill her wish."

Mo Xiaoxin: "No matter what, I've taken over her body. Besides, if she keeps nagging in my ear, I won't be able to complete the mission properly. And there are still hundreds of chances to go. I can easily earn back 50 million!"

The system applauded Mo Xiaoxin's sense of justice.

Mo Xiaoxin didn't miss the system's smug expression after receiving the money.

She knew they had ulterior motives for opening this online store for her; they just wanted to find ways to swindle money out of her.

The system finished counting the money with a grin, then noticed Mo Xiaoxin staring at it speechlessly. It coughed awkwardly and said, "Um, I forgot to tell you, this skill isn't the kind you can master all at once just by buying it. You have to start learning it from scratch. But since you have exceptional talent, you'll learn it very quickly."

Mo Xiaoxin: "???? Are you even speaking human language? Is it too late to get a refund now?"

The system shook its head vigorously: "Once a product is sold, it cannot be returned or exchanged."

She's been scammed again!!

Unfortunately, the money has already been given to someone else, so how could it possibly be returned?

She thought she could rise to the top and become the king of all demons in one fell swoop...

She had been too optimistic about these damn systems. If these systems really had a conscience, they wouldn't have set up so many obstacles for her and tricked her into doing tasks.

Mo Xiaoxin's face was gloomy. The system made an excuse and ran away, leaving Mo Xiaoxin standing there, wanting to cry but having no tears.

Good heavens, her 50 million!

After returning to the Demon Palace, Leng Huai, for the first time ever, asked her to eat with him. Mo Xiaoxin was dumbfounded when she saw the table full of food.

What's going on? Is Leng Huai suddenly showing mercy?

Mo Xiaoxin: "What does this mean?"

Leng Huai glanced at her: "It's too boring for me to eat alone. Come and eat with me."

Mo Xiaoxin: "!!!"

Mo Xiaoxin was moved to tears, a few tears welling up in her eyes: "This morning I thought you... I didn't realize you were such a good person!"

Mo Qiuxin chimed in from the side, "My Leng-gege is the most considerate person. Although I can't eat it, I can feel his kindness towards me."

She had a happy expression on her face.

Mo Xiaoxin was so engrossed in the food that she completely forgot about Mo Qiuxin.

Leng Huai: "What, was I bad before?"

Of course I treated her badly before!

The cooling-off period was long over. Mo Xiaoxin raised an eyebrow, suddenly stood up, put one foot on a stool, and began to complain about Leng Huai in detail: "You still have the nerve to talk about how you treated me before? Don't you have any self-awareness? First, you inexplicably forced me to marry you, and then you started tormenting me, poisoning me, making me cook for you, making me drink for you, stealing my dowry, and constantly deducting my money. Although I have a very noble status, the way you treat me has left me with no say in the palace. I am a princess of the Southern Demon Realm, but now I've been reduced to a cooking slave. How can I face my parents...?"

Leng Huai's handsome eyebrows furrowed, his face growing increasingly gloomy. His hand, which had been picking up meat, suddenly stopped. He placed the chopsticks on the table, radiating a cold aura: "So, you've always harbored resentment towards me?"

Mo Qiuxin was baffled by Mo Xiaoxin's sudden change of attitude. She shook her head frantically, "No, no, I didn't! Mo Xiaoxin, what's wrong with you? Don't talk nonsense while you're in my body. Leng Huai will hate me if you do this!"

Mo Xiaoxin glared at Mo Qiuxin, who was standing behind Leng Huai: "Shut up!"

Leng Huai's face darkened further: "It seems I've really been too lenient with you, daring to speak to me like that."

Mo Xiaoxin gave a mocking smile and spoke her true feelings: "Look at you, who are you trying to impress with that arrogant and conceited expression? Do you think you can do whatever you want and disregard others just because you're the Demon Lord of the Demon Realm? Have you ever respected anyone? Have you ever cared about anyone's thoughts? You're so self-centered! If this were in our country, you'd be called a sophisticated egoist!"

Mo Xiaoxin rattled off a whole bunch of things.

She hadn't originally intended to say much; she just wanted to deliberately provoke Leng Huai's anger. However, she had been under immense pressure lately, living in constant repression, and desperately needed an outlet. Since the atmosphere had already reached this point, she might as well vent her frustrations.

Besides, she wasn't wrong; Leng Huai did indeed present himself in this manner, and she hadn't wronged him.

Mo Xiaoxin's voice was loud, and the servants standing outside the door heard their Demon Queen's outburst and silently applauded her.

The Demon Queen is truly a great hero; she actually spoke the words that they had always dared not say.

They held their breath, keeping a close eye on what was happening inside the room.

Mo Xiaoxin awaited her death.

For a long time, Leng Huai remained motionless and expressionless, seemingly deep in thought.

What happened?

How can you be so calm?

This isn't like him at all!

If she had said that in the past, she would have been killed long ago.

Anyway, she wasn't afraid. Once Leng Huai killed her, he wouldn't remember the words she had said to him after he was resurrected, and everything would return to normal.

Mo Qiuxin was almost frantic: "Mo Xiaoxin! I won't allow you to occupy my body and insult the man I love! Shut up right now!"

Mo Xiaoxin completely ignored Mo Qiuxin; she only wanted to provoke Leng Huai.

Judging from Leng Huai's calm demeanor, he seems to still need some time to warm up?

Leng Huai: "Do you really think so?"

Mo Xiaoxin nodded: "Yes."

Leng Huai: "Then starting tomorrow, you will begin to fulfill your duties as the Demon Queen."

Mo Xiaoxin: "???"

Mo Qiuxin: "???"

Servants: "!!!!"

It turns out he really was thinking about what she said!
