Chapter Forty-Three: Growth

"That's a real pity..." Hua Xingcheng said regretfully.

"Yes, but it's just a story," the Flower Goddess said with a smile, though her smile carried a hint of bitterness.

"This story isn't pleasant to hear," the lotus in the canal suddenly said, before sinking into the water.

The Flower Goddess glanced at the Flower Canal and said softly to Hua Xingcheng, "Cheng'er, would you like to go see Brother Su?"

Upon hearing this, Hua Xingcheng jumped up excitedly and said joyfully, "Great! Great! Mother, let's go quickly!"

The Flower Goddess glanced back at the Flower Canal one last time, then left with Flower Star Cheng.

The lotus flowers that had been submerged emerged from the water, causing ripples to spread across the surface...

Liuyun Peak.

"Brother Su, Brother Su."

Before he saw the person, he heard the voice. Li Su came out of the house and saw Hua Xingcheng running towards him from a distance.

Seeing that Hua Xingcheng was about to rush up and give him a bear hug as usual, Li Su quickly stepped out first.

"Flower Goddess." After bowing to the Flower Goddess, Li Su looked at Hua Xingcheng to the side.

Hua Xingcheng was immediately displeased when he missed his pounce.

He glanced at Li Su, who seemed like a completely different person, and as if he understood something, he ran towards the house, shouting, "Old man, come out, you bad old man!"

It must have been that old man who made Su-gege turn out like this.

Last time, when that old man came over saying he was taking on apprentices, he felt there was something fishy going on. Later, the old man even produced a dark, black pill and tricked Brother Su into becoming his apprentice. Now that Brother Su has become so cold, it must be because he ate that old man's poisoned pill…

Hua Xingcheng thought about it more and more and felt that it made sense, so he rushed into the house.

When he rushed to the front of the house, he was stopped by Li Su.

"Master is refining medicine, don't disturb him," Li Su said seriously.

Li Su's words only strengthened Hua Xingcheng's belief that the old man in the house was the reason why his brother Su had become so cold towards him.

Thinking of this, he ignored the advice and rushed inside.

"Who's looking for this old man?" A clear, ethereal voice came from inside the house, but it was hard to hear clearly, so Hua Xingcheng stopped in his tracks.

Then a handsome man dressed in white walked out of the house.

Hua Xingcheng glanced at him and shook his head, saying, "It's not you. Call that old man out."

The man chuckled, and his gentle, refined voice rang out, "I am the person you are looking for."

Hua Xingcheng stared wide-eyed in disbelief at the man before her—

His features were distinct, his pupils a pure, deep black, like an endless abyss; looking at him for a while gave one the illusion of being sucked in. His nose was straight, without any harshness, only gentleness. His skin wasn't pure white, but warm and delicate like jade, yet warmer and softer than jade. Wearing white, he didn't look out of place at all; instead, it enhanced his appearance, as if white was born for him, existed for him.

This doesn't look like an old man at all; you could easily mistake him for someone in his early twenties!

Hua Xingshen was stunned for a moment, but he immediately remembered his purpose. Perhaps out of respect for the handsome man, he softened his voice and asked in a serious tone, "Did you make my brother Su so cold to me?"

The Immortal Physician first bowed to the Flower Goddess standing in the distance, and then took Hua Xingcheng's hand and walked towards Li Su.

Hua Xingcheng glanced at his hand and secretly found a reason for himself: he only let him hold his hand because he couldn't break free.

And so I let it go.

Approaching Li Su, the Immortal Physician squatted down and patted Hua Xingcheng on the shoulder, saying, "Little fellow, tell me, what's different about him?"

Hua Xingcheng replied without hesitation, "Brother Su used to be so good to me, so close to me, he would never be so cold. Don't believe me? Ask my mother..."

Hua Xingcheng looked up at the spot where the Flower Goddess had been standing, unaware that she had already left after greeting the Immortal Physician.

“It’s just different now,” Hua Xingcheng insisted.

The healer patted Hua Xingcheng's head and encouraged him, "Think again, is there anything different?"

Hua Xingcheng racked his brains for a long time, but still couldn't figure it out, so he shook his head.

"It has matured," the healer said.

"Mature?" Hua Xingcheng asked in confusion.

"Yes, maturity means being neither overjoyed in good times nor discouraged in adversity; being neither extravagant in times of peace nor fearful in times of danger. It means being unburdened by worldly affairs, unashamed of fame and fortune, confident in one's ordinary life, and behaving appropriately for the occasion," the physician patiently explained.

"What's going on?" Hua Xingcheng shook his head, not understanding.

The Immortal Physician sighed, glanced at Li Su, and said gently to Hua Xingcheng, "You'll understand when you grow up."

Everyone has a hero in their heart.
