Chapter 11 New Mission

For the next two weeks, Ji Lin'an and I stayed in our new home to recuperate. Every day, we would go next door to kill a zombie to complete our kill mission. Once all the zombies next door were gone, I had accumulated enough points to redeem for an additional 30 square meters of mobile space. Ji Lin'an, on the other hand, redeemed three weapons. He specifically chose a short sword submachine gun for me, which had low recoil, was lighter than a rifle, had a fast rate of fire, and strong attack power. However, it was not yet usable because the silencer for the short sword had not been redeemed yet.

If we can get the silencer soon, maybe next time we can go down to the busy downtown area and mow down zombies with a submachine gun, then the points will come flowing in like water. Ji Lin'an used the drone to observe the surrounding zombie situation. The area was almost completely overrun by zombies. When the drone flew to the edge of the signal range, it saw the stadium. From the sky, the stadium still looked empty. There didn't seem to be many zombies, but there weren't a few either. We decided to choose the stadium as our kill destination for today.

During the two weeks I was recuperating at home, Ji Lin'an provided us with new equipment. The treasure chest produced two motorcycle riding suits and helmets, which were quite thick and could provide some protection against zombies. After changing into our clothes and equipment, we teleported to the stadium. We landed quietly, and the surrounding zombies didn't notice us and were still wandering around aimlessly. Ji Lin'an and I stood back to back, holding our guns and aiming at the zombies as we fired. I couldn't hit the target every time with my small pistol, but I could still hit 6 out of 10.

Although I had a silencer, the sound of bullets hitting other places when they missed still attracted zombies. Before long, the zombies in the stadium were rushing towards us. Every time I loaded my pistol, the zombies got closer to me. I started to struggle, and my aim dropped a lot. Ji Lin'an turned around and looked at me: "Can you hold on? If you can't, we'll go back."

I shook my head: "I'm a little too weak, but I should be able to take care of these few in front of me."

Just as I was trying to aim at the zombies ahead, Little Sick's voice suddenly rang out.

"Master, Master, another lucky person has been detected within one kilometer. A special mission has been activated: Killing this lucky person will grant you their skills and space. If you are killed, the killer will gain your skills and space. Please protect yourself and complete the special mission. You can track the lucky person in the Future Island mission interface."

I turned around in surprise to look at Ji Lin'an, and he was looking at me with the same surprised expression. We were both a little confused, so we immediately ended today's kill mission and returned home.

Ji Lin'an frowned: "Did you understand what Xiao Bing said just now?"

I nodded with a grim expression: "I understand. Other lucky ones nearby will activate the mission to kill the lucky one. The lucky one who was near us must have known about this too. I thought becoming a lucky one was a good thing, but it turns out this is still a game of killing each other."

Ji Lin'an patted my shoulder: "It's nothing, don't worry, let me ask. It's just a minor illness, it's about the details of the special mission."

"Master, special missions can only be activated when a lucky person is nearby. If no lucky person is detected nearby, the mission will be temporarily closed, but the tracking function can still be used. You can use the approximate range of the tracker to find other lucky people. Note: If a normal person has already obtained the lucky person's skill and is killed by a normal person, the normal person will obtain the skill and space of the killed lucky person."

I sighed: "This apocalypse is getting harder and harder to survive."

Ji Lin'an picked up his phone and opened the tracking function on the special mission interface. The interface indicated that there were no Lucky Ones nearby to track. It seemed that we could only see the location of the Lucky One when they were nearby. There was a message notification in the upper right corner. The first message said that the Lucky One was 2.5 kilometers away from us, but the system had not warned us yet. The second message said that the Lucky One was 2.0 kilometers away from us. There would be a notification every time they got within 500 meters, but we could not see the notification unless we clicked on it. The system would only issue a verbal warning when they were relatively close to us.

Looking at the map, I said, "So that means as long as there are lucky people within a 2.5-kilometer radius, we can still find out. It won't take too long to search for them."

Ji Lin'an said with some helplessness, "It seems we have to be prepared to run away at any time."

I was in a bad mood: "Do I really have to kill the Lucky Guys? But they're human too. If they were zombies, I could just shoot them and nothing would happen."

Ji Lin'an turned to look at me seriously and said, "It's already good that we were able to temporarily save our lives by unexpectedly obtaining special skills. It's very difficult for normal people without skills to survive, so since we have become lucky ones, we can only abide by the rules."

I lowered my head, somewhat unwilling to meet Ji Lin'an's eyes: "I know, but I've grown up in a society governed by the rule of law. I'm afraid of being labeled as a troublemaker if I argue with someone on the street. Last time, we only resorted to violence because the situation was critical. This time, it would be as if we were the ones who actively hurt people."

Ji Lin'an patted me: "I understand how you feel. I don't want to hurt innocent people either. It's already not easy to survive in this chaotic world by acquiring special skills. Now, suddenly, you have to face losing your skills and your life. Any normal person would feel terrible."

I shifted my body towards Ji Lin'an: "Why can't we lucky ones stick together for warmth? Wouldn't it be great if we formed an Avengers team? Why do we have to fight each other?"

Ji Lin'an looked at me and smiled: "That's a good idea. Xiao Bing didn't seem to mention any consequences for not killing him. Xiao Bing, what are the consequences of not completing a special mission?"

"Master, Master, failing to complete the special mission will not affect any of your operations. After completing the special mission, you will gain the skills of the person you killed, as well as a hidden skill."
