Back at the villa, Qianliyan was already asleep at the desk in the study. Ji Lin'an quietly walked out of the study: "Let's tidy up the room together. We haven't had a good rest these past few days. Let's get a good night's sleep tonight."
I nodded in agreement and cleaned up the trash Zhu Chen had left in the master bedroom, sweeping, mopping, and putting on new bedding. Ji Lin'an was in charge of the second bedroom, the one I used to live in, which was now left to Qianliyan. The first floor had been burned down, but fortunately, the villa's renovation was of good quality. Apart from the furniture and electrical wiring being destroyed, the walls were still relatively intact, though they were charred black. After Ji Lin'an and I finished cleaning the room, we went downstairs. After observing for a moment, Ji Lin'an said, "When Qianliyan wakes up, we'll throw the furniture out together. I still have two cans of paint left over from the renovation in the basement. When we have time, we can repaint the walls, and the first floor will still be barely habitable."
I laughed awkwardly, "Actually, we don't have to swipe. We can just stay upstairs. Why bother? We might run away at any moment."
Ji Lin'an smiled and said, "That's true, but I have a feeling that we might not have to move again."
I sighed and smiled, "I hope so."
After saying that, we went upstairs and woke up Qianliyan. The original storage room on the second floor was not very big. The only room that was suitable for living was the study. We woke up Qianliyan and moved the desk from the original study to the small living room on the second floor. Once the sofa bed in the study was pulled out and a four-piece bedding set was laid out, it became a brand new room.
After we finished tidying up, we all went back to our rooms. Ji Lin'an's original master bedroom had changed from single bedding to double bedding. Although we were worried that Zhu Chen might come at any time, we all thought he was not a big threat, so we all fell into a deep sleep and caught up on the sleep we had missed over the past few days.
The next day, Ji Lin'an woke up and checked the nearby surveillance cameras, but there were no notifications of anyone breaking in...
On the third day, there were still no reports of intrusion on Future Island or from the surveillance cameras...
At 3 a.m. on the fourth day, both Ji Lin'an's and my phones issued warnings that the lucky one was approaching. However, the alarm stopped when the lucky one was 300 meters away from us, and the red dot marking the lucky one on the map disappeared two minutes later. The fact that it disappeared so quickly confirmed that it was Zhu Chen.
Ji Lin'an and I were wide awake. I got up to use the bathroom, and when I returned to bed, Ji Lin'an had already turned on the security camera playback. The surveillance cameras we installed didn't cover a very large area, but the one at the entrance of the complex clearly showed that Zhu Chen's last known location was not far from where we had posted the code. When the footage was slowed down, it showed that Zhu Chen had originally arrived at the entrance of the complex, and then, a second later, retreated to the spot where he was last seen on camera. He stared at the code paper for a minute before tearing it off and disappearing from sight at lightning speed. Ji Lin'an and I exchanged a glance, and Ji Lin'an said, "He understood your code. He might come back at any time. Why don't you continue sleeping? I'll keep watch tonight."
I thought for a moment and shook my head: "You go to sleep, I'll keep watch, or I can go downstairs and wait for him. If he gets close and can see me, he might be less wary."
Ji Lin'an thought for a moment and said, "I'll go with you. I'm worried about you being alone. Zhu Chen isn't an ordinary person anymore."
I didn't refuse. I really didn't dare to face Zhu Chen alone without Ji Lin'an by my side. We changed our clothes and went downstairs. We opened the garden gate a crack, and Ji Lin'an conjured a sofa from his treasure chest. We lay down on the sofa and just lay there.
I don't know how much time passed. I closed my eyes, feeling the tranquility and Ji Lin'an's breathing. When my phone suddenly beeped, I opened my eyes abruptly and realized that I had fallen asleep without even realizing it. I looked up and saw Ji Lin'an looking down at me: "You're awake? Zhu Chen should be here. It looks like he's still 300 meters away and hasn't gotten any closer."
I stretched and sat up from lying on Ji Lin'an's lap: "Let me check the tracking location. Can you see where he is on the surveillance footage?"
Ji Lin'an nodded and turned on the surveillance camera. After switching between several screens, he saw Zhu Chen hiding in the security booth at the entrance of the residential area. He looked anxious and paced back and forth in the booth, constantly checking his phone. I frowned and asked curiously, "What is Zhu Chen waiting for? Could it be that he has gathered another army to attack us?"
Ji Lin'an stroked his chin: "It doesn't seem like he has any companions. If he did, wouldn't it be more convenient for him to just teleport here? Why expose his location to us and then wait for his accomplices right under our noses? Maybe he's waiting for us."
"Wait for us?" I blinked, not quite understanding Zhu Chen's idea.
Ji Lin'an nodded: "Have you forgotten what happened last time when we ambushed him here? He might not be sure about the safety of the villa and is worried about falling into our trap. If we want to cooperate with him, and he stays nearby for a long time without coming in, we will definitely go out to find him. This way, he can observe our situation from a distance and make it easier for him to escape."
I instantly smiled and looked at Ji Lin'an with appreciation, nodding: "Your analysis is spot on. Men really do understand men better. So what do we do now? Should we go find him?"
Ji Lin'an smiled and said, "No rush, let's wait a bit longer. What if my analysis is wrong? Zhu Chen might really be waiting for his companion."
I nodded obediently. After a while, the system suddenly notified us that the lucky one was less than 100 meters away. Ji Lin'an immediately checked the surveillance footage. Almost none of the footage showed Zhu Chen. Ji Lin'an immediately went into battle mode and took out a gun from his spatial storage: "You observe the area around the villa. I'll check the surveillance footage again to find Zhu Chen's location."
"Okay," I said nervously, holding my gun and looking around, but I didn't see Zhu Chen. The system reminded me again that the lucky guy was 300 meters away from us. Zhu Chen reappeared at the guard post at the entrance of the community. I was speechless, really not understanding what Zhu Chen's purpose was. I frowned and looked at Ji Lin'an. Ji Lin'an seemed to be confused as well. After a moment, he said, "Let's go. Let's go out and find him. It seems he doesn't have any accomplices. He was probably waiting impatiently but didn't dare to come in."
