Chapter 31 The Truth

Jiang Kexin turned her head away from me and said slowly, "It all started on the day the apocalypse began..."

Before the apocalypse began, Zhu Chen and I were called to a hotel where we were to hold our wedding. However, we were inexplicably reported for prostitution. Zhu Chen and I were taken to a police car. Just as the police car was heading to the police station, a riot broke out. The zombie outbreak caused the streets to be completely blocked. There were car accidents everywhere. I was terrified to see people being chased and bitten by zombies all over the streets. I don't know where Zhu Chen got the courage, but when the policeman in the passenger seat got out to check the situation, he rushed up and knocked out the policeman in the driver's seat. He climbed over from the back seat, took the policeman's gun, and pushed the policeman out of the car. Zhu Chen then drove the police car and took me away along back roads.

We drove for a long time until we found a place with few zombies. We got out of the car and found a hotel. We snatched a master key from the receptionist who was being chased and bitten by zombies, found a room, and hid inside. Within two days, the food and water in the room ran out, and Zhu Chen had to go out to find food. When Zhu Chen returned, he was followed by a group of people, led by Chen Hu.

I suddenly realized that Chen Hu had looked familiar to me. It turned out that he was the Tiger who set fire to our villa with Zhu Chen. The Tiger back then was arrogant and unreasonable, and he was completely different from the Chen Hu I met today.

Jiang Kexin continued, "Chen Hu led a few men into the room and searched it. After confirming that there were no usable supplies in our room, he wanted to kill Zhu Chen. Zhu Chen negotiated with Chen Hu for a while. Seeing that Chen Hu kept emphasizing that he wanted to kill him but never mentioned killing me, Zhu Chen offered to hand me over to Chen Hu. Chen Hu was initially hesitant, until Zhu Chen whispered to Chen Hu that I was stubborn and that he could persuade me to follow Chen Hu, which was better than forcing me. Only then did Chen Hu change his mind. Zhu Chen offered to be Chen Hu's lackey. Seeing that Zhu Chen's attitude was good, Chen Hu kept him. That night, Zhu Chen threatened me to submit to Chen Hu, or he would take me with him to die. I had no choice but to submit to Chen Hu, and we followed Chen Hu to their shelter."

Later, another of Chen Hu's henchmen suddenly said that they had found two pretty good survivors. The henchman described the appearance and figure of one of the women to Chen Hu. Zhu Chen, for some reason, found your photo and showed it to Chen Hu's henchmen. It turned out that the person they were talking about was indeed you. They then planned how to get rid of your husband and take you for themselves.

However, the plan failed. After returning, Zhu Chen was used by Chen Hu to vent his anger every day. He would punch and kick Zhu Chen and verbally abuse him with me. After Zhu Chen finished venting his anger on Chen Hu, he would find an opportunity to force himself on me in private, saying that I hadn't served Chen Hu well, which was why Chen Hu treated him that way. One day, Chen Hu found out about Zhu Chen forcing himself on me. Chen Hu also had another woman, but that woman always said some brainless things that made Chen Hu unhappy. So Chen Hu gave that woman to Zhu Chen and let her wear my clothes and walk around Zhu Chen, but he didn't allow Zhu Chen to have any physical contact with that woman.

One day, Zhu Chen and that woman suddenly disappeared. A few days after Zhu Chen disappeared, I started to feel unwell and started to gain weight. That's when I realized something was wrong. I went to a pharmacy and got some pregnancy tests. Sure enough, I was pregnant. In this chaotic world, I couldn't have an abortion. I tried many methods, but this child was too tenacious. She was alive and well in my belly. I had no choice but to keep her. At first, Chen Hu thought the child might be Zhu Chen's and wanted to kill me and the child together. But I calculated the time and confirmed that the child was Chen Hu's. After Chen Hu found out, he treated me differently.

The good times didn't last long. While searching for supplies, they were gradually murdered by mysterious figures. Seeing the situation was dire, Chen Hu took me and drove to City C overnight. During another supply search, we encountered a "Lucky One" with clones who tried to steal our find. Chen Hu told me to hide while he fought the "Lucky One." When Chen Hu was about to be defeated, I rushed out and struck the "Lucky One" in a vital spot. Seeing this, Chen Hu finished him off with several more blows. After that, Chen Hu became the "Lucky One." We then happened to encounter a "Lucky One" who controlled water, seeking revenge for the "Lucky One" we had killed. With Chen Hu's help, I also became a "Lucky One," and then I met you.

My eyes were a little dazed, perhaps because I hadn't woken up properly. After listening to Jiang Kexin say so much, my head started to ache. I wiped my face, processed what Jiang Kexin had said, and asked with some doubt, "Have you ever killed a fire-controlling lucky person in City C?"

Jiang Kexin nodded, then asked me in surprise, "How did you know?"

I frowned: "Never mind how I know, tell me how you killed her."

Jiang Kexin squinted as she recalled, "When we met her, she was already injured, and quite badly so, but not in any vital organs. She wanted us to save her. We didn't want to get involved, but she said she had volunteered in the obstetrics and gynecology department. When she saw that I was heavily pregnant, she offered to take care of me in exchange for us saving her. We thought about it and realized that we should have someone who knew about these things around to help us, since Chen Hu and I knew nothing about it. So we chose to take her back to the shelter and save her."

I asked curiously, "And then what happened? How did she end up dying at your hands?"

Jiang Kexin sighed, "We used the medicine we brought back from the hospital to disinfect and bandage her. She was much better, but a wound near her chest just wouldn't heal. The flesh started to rot and smell bad. She started to have a persistent fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. When she was about to collapse, she asked us to kill her to get her skills as a way of thanking us for taking care of her during that time."

I pressed further, "Did she say how she got injured?"

Jiang Kexin shook her head: "She didn't say. I asked her a few times, but she wouldn't tell me. Every time I asked her, her eyes would look disappointed."
