When I returned to Jiang Kexin's house, I didn't see Jiang Kexin and the child in the living room. I went to Jiang Kexin's room, and Jiang Kexin, who was lying on the bed with her back to me, immediately turned around and made a shushing gesture. I wisely left the room. I turned around and waved to Qianliyan: "You stay here with Kaka. This isn't a good thing. It'll annoy Chen Hu if there are too many people around."
Qianliyan muttered resentfully, but didn't follow. Ji Lin'an and I walked to the balcony. I quietly peeked at Chen Hu, who was sitting on the ground looking out the window with a blank expression. I called out softly, "Chen Hu?"
Chen Hu snapped out of his daze when he heard my voice and started to get up, supporting himself with his hands on the ground. I quickly stopped him: "Please sit down. Ji Lin'an and I just wanted to have a chat with you."
Chen Hu forced a smile that looked more like a grimace. Ji Lin'an comforted Chen Hu with a few words, saying things that men usually say, and Chen Hu gradually opened up.
Chen Hu recounted: "Before the apocalypse began, I started a logistics company. When the zombie outbreak occurred, I and a few of my underlings were playing cards at the company and luckily escaped the riot. We were trapped in the company, but there happened to be a food delivery order that hadn't been dispatched yet, so my underlings and I survived on that food for a while."
Our good fortune didn't last long. One day, a group of people suddenly came to steal our food. We were evenly matched in numbers, but we were far inferior in strength. Many of our brothers died, and they were also seriously injured. Seeing they hadn't gained anything, they ran away. They returned a couple of days later, and after several such attacks, only a handful of our remaining brothers were left. So, we decided to take all our food and escape.
I couldn't help but interject, "You guys are pretty good at fighting them so many times."
Chen Hu smiled and said, "To be honest, I used to be involved in the underworld. I even went to jail. After I got out, I started this company with a group of brothers I met there."
I nodded: "I see, you can continue."
Chen Hu continued, "At first, we didn't want to hurt anyone, but those who survived weren't exactly kind. Even if we behaved ourselves, there were always people eyeing our supplies. So, we started taking the initiative and became more and more reckless. We figured it was the apocalypse anyway, with no police or laws, so we went all out. Later, during a looting operation, we encountered Zhu Chen and Jiang Kexin. We didn't want to keep them around, but Zhu Chen's timid and submissive demeanor was annoying."
Just as we were about to kill them, Jiang Kexin jumped out and said that we, a bunch of grown men, definitely needed a woman to manage the logistics. I had a woman at the time, who had come up to us when we were robbing supplies. She was less attractive than Jiang Kexin and not very bright, so I agreed to let Jiang Kexin come with us. I gradually developed feelings for Jiang Kexin. After all, she was beautiful, had a great figure, and was cultured. She had a knack for charming people.
