I was completely bewildered. Everyone had a different story, and I had no idea who to believe. I finally asked, "So what are you planning to do now?"
Chen Hu shook his head, head drooping: "I don't know..."
I glanced at Ji Lin'an, whose eyes seemed to say, "What kind of people and what kind of things are these?" I turned to Chen Hu and asked, "Are you still going to G City?"
Chen Hu shook his head again: "I don't know. What difference does it make whether I go or not in this situation?"
I didn't know what to say. We'd finished our gossip. I looked at Ji Lin'an and gave him a look. Ji Lin'an nodded at me and said to Chen Hu, "We're about to leave. If the child really is Zhu Chen's, I believe he'll come back to find Jiang Kexin. You'd better make plans early and be careful of them."
Chen Hu looked up at us with a complicated expression: "You're leaving already? It's good that you're gone. Live well."
We didn't say anything more. After greeting Chen Hu, we got up and found Qianliyan and the others. I looked at Jiang Kexin's room, but I didn't feel like greeting her. After calling Wufeng, I led everyone to Wufeng's residence.
Wufeng had been waiting for a long time, and when he saw us, he walked over happily: "You've finally arrived! I've been looking forward to this for the past two days."
I laughed and said, "Why are you so happy?"
Wu Feng said with a crooked mouth, "Of course I'm happy! Before, I was the only one chatting with cows and sheep every day. I didn't talk to Xi Lang much either. Now that you're here, I finally have someone to drink and chat with."
Wu Feng laughed heartily. I looked at the area in the shelter that used to be used to store breeding supplies, now cleared out and cleaned. I asked in surprise, "You did all of this by yourself?"
Wufeng scratched his head and smiled: "Yeah, I was thinking that since you're coming, you'll have to go out and build your own shelters. I figured I'd be stuck with that for a while, so I just packed everything up. We can go to town and find some partitions to install and create a few rooms."
With a smug smile, Wufeng ran to the open space and exclaimed, "Wow, this place is so big! I didn't realize it was full of feed at first, but now that it's been cleaned up, this whole shelter must be at least two or three hundred square meters!"
The all-seeing eye wandered around happily, and seeing that Kaka was still standing where we teleported, he ran over, pulled Kaka up, and started looking around.
Wu Feng walked to his usual cooking spot, pointed to the large pot on the ground, and said, "We'll move these outside together later so there'll be more space. Before, it was just my partner and me cooking inside, so the smoke wasn't too bad. But now that there are so many of us, we'll have to move them outside to cook."
Ji Lin'an looked around with a satisfied smile. I smiled and leaned against him, looking up and saying, "How about it? Aren't we one step closer to our dream life?"
Ji Lin'an smiled and nodded: "Yes, although there is still some gap, we can take it slowly."
With the help and guidance of Wufeng, we moved the large iron pot and grill, along with other cooking utensils, from inside the shelter to the side, and then used wood and fireproof and waterproof fabric to build a simple kitchen.
After we finished setting up, we had a meal together. Wufeng somehow got hold of an eight-seater van and drove us towards the town. There weren't many zombies in the town; most of them were "kept" by Wufeng and his partner in a large square in the town. All the entrances to the square were secured with iron and wooden fences, providing double protection to keep the zombies firmly inside the square.
We started wandering around the town without any restraint. The town wasn't big, probably less than a hundred households. All the houses were low-rise buildings, two or three stories high. According to Wufeng, every shop was owned by the same family, with the shops leading directly to the living quarters upstairs. The town's residents relied on their shops to do business with tourists from other places. I asked curiously, "Wufeng, I don't see any hotels or guesthouses in the town. Where do tourists from other places stay?"
Wu Feng laughed and said, "Most of them stay at the county magistrate's house. The county magistrate's house is located 3 kilometers away from the town. He built a small courtyard, with the county magistrate's family living on one side and more than ten rooms on the other side to accommodate tourists from other places. Our town is very small, so there aren't many tourists. During the peak season, when there isn't enough room, some residents will vacate one or two rooms in their houses for tourists to stay in."
I imagined the bustling and peaceful scene of the small town before the apocalypse, and looking at the empty streets now, I couldn't help but feel a little lost. Ji Lin'an seemed to see what I was thinking and put his arm around my shoulder.
The car stopped at a small renovation company. Wufeng got out and pointed inside, saying, "This is the only home renovation company in our town. Almost all the renovations in our town are handled by this company. Their renovation materials are transported from other places, which is a lot of trouble, so the company has a full range of things. Let's go in and see if there's anything we can use."
We all got out of the car, and Qianliyan looked at the street in the distance: "Hey, Su Su, Lao Ji, Kaka and I don't know anything, so we won't go in. You guys, I'll take Kaka for a walk."
After saying that, he pulled Kaka and walked away into the distance of the street. Wufeng led me and Ji Lin'an into the decoration company. We turned left and right and came to a place that looked like a warehouse. The decoration tools, materials and furniture were all available. We divided the work. I chose the furniture and Ji Lin'an and Wufeng looked for materials and tools that could be used to make partitions.
In no time, I selected three beds, four sets of desks and chairs, four wardrobes, and a large sofa and coffee table. Just imagining how we could lie on the sofa, eat snacks, and watch movies made me feel wonderful.
Speaking of movies, we also need a viewing system. I put the furniture I had chosen into the space and turned to look for Ji Lin'an and the others. They were still having a heated discussion about how to modify the space. I walked up to Ji Lin'an and put my arm around his shoulder: "How was your viewing?"
