Chapter 4 An unexpected encounter with her ex-boyfriend

When we got home, the garden construction had already begun. After talking with the pool contractor, we realized that using the pool as an excuse to build a water reservoir wasn't practical. From digging the pit, installing the inlet and outlet pipes, waterproofing, tiling, and letting it dry, it would take at least one or two months. So, we decided to dig the pit first, use wood to fix the outline, and then buy high-quality, food-grade waterproof plastic sheeting to use as water containers. This way, we could finish before the apocalypse. The contractor who was reinforcing the doors and windows was doing measurements and calculations. Looking at the once idyllic garden now a mess, I felt a little sorry, but to survive, I figured I had to bear the regret.

The rice and oil delivery company owner called to say they had prepared the remaining stock for delivery. I greeted Ji Lin'an and was teleported to the receiving warehouse. While waiting, I went into my mobile space and repeatedly planned and organized the prepared supplies. For someone like me who has a penchant for organization, this was a wonderful thing. I've always dreamed of opening a supermarket, not for any other reason than to plan and organize the shelves. After the rice and oil arrived, I went home to continue organizing. Looking at the high-piled shelves in my mobile space—the instant noodle section, the self-heating food section, the canned food section, the dry goods section, and the daily necessities section (paper towels, cleaning supplies)—I felt a great sense of accomplishment. When I left the mobile space, I saw Ji Lin'an still busy in the garden, so I didn't call him. I went upstairs, lay down on the bed, and dozed off for a while.

I woke up near dusk and, not hearing any noise, went downstairs to check. Ji Lin'an was asleep on the sofa. The workers outside must have finished their work. I took a blanket and covered Ji Lin'an with it. I walked around the garden. The pit for the reservoir had been dug, and the sunroom for growing vegetables had been built up to my thigh height. I followed the path connected to the sunroom to the back door of the villa. I have to say, the efficiency is really high. In the past, when I renovated a house, I felt that these kinds of tasks would take three or four days to complete.

I went back inside and saw that Ji Lin'an was still fast asleep. He must have been too tired today. I checked the time and it was almost eight o'clock. I still had three teleportation attempts left for today, so I found a restaurant, teleported there, and ordered crayfish, stir-fried crab, lamb skewers, and beer. I put them on the table, then went to the sofa, squatted down, and called Ji Lin'an's name. I called him many times but he didn't respond. I was startled and quickly nudged him a couple of times. Only then did he open his eyes, look at me, and lazily stretch.

I frowned: "How could you be sleeping so soundly? You scared me to death. I thought you were gone."

Ji Lin'an said lazily, "I haven't been sleeping well these past few days because I've been a bit stressed. The worker just came up and saw you sleeping soundly, even snoring. I guess I caught your scent and slept very well too."

I exclaimed in surprise, "What? I snore? Impossible, absolutely impossible!"

I shook my head and waved as I walked to the dining table, trying to escape this awkward moment.

Ji Lin'an immediately took out her phone: "I even took a video. You won't believe me. Look, she's sleeping like a little pig, snoring away."

I jumped up the moment I sat down, rushed to Ji Lin'an, and snatched the phone. In the video, I was indeed sleeping soundly, with a slight snoring sound. It was true; I had slept alone for so many years and never knew I could snore. I could feel my face turning red to the roots of my neck.

She said with some anger, "Why did you barge into my room and take pictures of me without my permission?"

Ji Lin'an was stunned for a moment, then said with a hint of anxiety, "I went upstairs to find you, and I happened to see that you hadn't closed the door. I'm sorry for taking the video without your permission. I just thought you were cute and didn't think much of it. Don't be angry, I'll delete it now."

I didn't answer, tacitly agreeing with his actions. Ji Lin'an clicked delete, then opened the recently deleted album and clicked clear. Only then did I feel relieved. Even if he thought it was cute, I didn't. It was so embarrassing. This kind of video should never be kept.

We sat down to eat crayfish and barbecue and drink beer. In just a few minutes, we forgot all about what had just happened. In order to stay clear-headed when we saw the future scene, we didn't drink much. After we were full, Ji Lin'an took the initiative to clean up the trash. I sat on the sofa, half-lying down, watching TV and waiting for him.

Ji Lin'an finished cleaning and sat down. I looked at the unfinished garden and the doors and windows that hadn't been reinforced, and we decided not to watch anymore. The ending would probably be similar to last time. Watching it again would mean dying again. The feeling of death was still unpleasant. We found a movie to watch and then went back to our rooms to sleep.
