Chapter 5 is just such a coincidence

Ten days before the zombie outbreak, the workers arrived early to continue construction. I stayed in bed until the workers who were making the doors and windows arrived, and then I reluctantly got up. When I went downstairs, Ji Lin'an came in and put the sandwiches and milk he had made into the microwave. He told me to take them out and eat them before going to the garden. After heating them up, I brought them to the dining table. While eating, I looked at Ji Lin'an, who was busy in the garden, and felt a little dazed. If only there hadn't been a zombie outbreak, I could have lived a quiet life with my crush like this. But without the zombie outbreak, we might not have had the chance to be together.

Six days before the zombie outbreak, the sunroom was finally built. Early in the morning, Ji Lin'an went to fetch some soil for cultivation. After breakfast, we transplanted the fruit and vegetable seedlings we'd brought back a few days earlier into the garden. The garden wall was very sturdy, double-reinforced as Ji Lin'an had requested. The construction foreman joked that with such a strong wall, even a truck might be totaled if it were to crash into it. After transplanting the seedlings, we had lunch and then drained the reservoir to clean and disinfect it. Since there was no drainage system, Ji Lin'an bought a water pump. After repeatedly cleaning the reservoir several times, we started draining it. The reservoir had an inner diameter of 5 meters by 6 meters and a depth of 1 meter. It wasn't until the early hours of the next day that the reservoir was full.

Five days before the zombie outbreak, everything was ready. After breakfast, Ji Lin'an and I went to the living room to prepare for our third viewing of the future...

The zombie outbreak has accelerated our two-month peaceful life. This time, no one broke in, and the zombies couldn't get in either, but the neighborhood was overrun. To complete our zombie-killing mission, Ji Lin'an and I would go out every morning when the zombies were least active to cooperate in killing them. Our neighborhood is in a remote area, so there weren't many zombies. It was clear that most of them were residents and workers from this neighborhood and the surrounding area. We wouldn't go far; we would go out and kill any lone zombies we saw passing by outside the garden. After two and a half months of the outbreak, we couldn't find any lone zombies near our house anymore. I roughly counted, and we had killed less than fifteen zombies in total. It was probably because we lost the internet after the outbreak. We were incredibly bored every day, and our only fun was going out to kill zombies to pass the time. So, Ji Lin'an and I decided to try our luck in a small area of the neighborhood to see if we could find any lone zombies.

Ji Lin'an's accessory depot wasn't activated and didn't have a silencer. The previous times we killed zombies, we would work together, using ropes to flank the zombies from behind, securing them, and then Ji Lin'an would kill them with an axe. Sometimes I would take over, but we couldn't do that outside the gate. If we encountered more than one zombie, we would probably be dead again. So this time, Ji Lin'an simply carried the axe, and I took a large knife that I could carry. After Ji Lin'an briefly described the layout of the neighborhood to me, we set off. We walked around half of the neighborhood without seeing a single living creature. I became bolder and suggested that Ji Lin'an and I split up. Ji Lin'an thought about it and agreed, telling me not to stay more than 50 meters away from him.

So we each went our separate ways, and when we were almost 50 meters away and still hadn't seen a single zombie, I decided to go back to find Ji Lin'an. Suddenly, everything went black, and something covered my head and forcefully gagged me. Only a human could do that. With my head covered, I couldn't see anything. Although I was panicked, I knew it was a human, so I wasn't too scared. The person who tied me up dragged me for a while and then stopped. They rummaged through my body and found the key in my bag. They pulled out my fingerprint and the garden gate opened. After going inside, they dragged me and continued walking. The front door opened too, and I was dragged to a chair. The person who tied me up used rope to secure me to the chair. Suddenly, my vision brightened, and I squinted uncomfortably. Standing in front of me was my ex-boyfriend! I was about to start yelling when I saw him quickly run to the garden and lock the gate from the inside. Then he went inside and locked the front door from the inside as well. At that moment, a woman ran up the stairs. It was Zhu Chen's fiancée. "Honey, honey, we're rich! There's food everywhere downstairs!"

After Jiang Kexin finished speaking, Zhu Chen followed her downstairs. I heard a noise outside the garden; Ji Lin'an had returned. However, the door was locked from the inside, so I couldn't get in. I panicked. I couldn't handle both Zhu Chen and Ji Lin'an by myself, and now that I was tied up, I tried to look around but couldn't find any tools to cut the ropes. I struggled to my feet and walked to the window, shouting out, "Ji Lin'an, I've been kidnapped by Zhu Chen! You need to find a place to hide and protect yourself!"

After I called out, there was indeed no sound from outside. Zhu Chen and Jiang Kexin heard my shout and rushed over immediately. Jiang Kexin slapped me hard, and I fell to the ground, chair and all. Zhu Chen laughed and said, "Oh dear, what a pity. Your amazing husband can only wait to die outside now."

I couldn't say a word. Although I had a million things I wanted to say, I had to stay calm and figure out a way to get Zhu Chen to let me go so I could use the Anywhere Door. Zhu Chen saw that I was silent and came over to help me up. "What's wrong? You were so arrogant the other day, why aren't you saying anything now?"

I asked warily, "What are you doing here?"

Zhu Chen chuckled: "That's even more of a coincidence. We also live in this neighborhood, and I just happened to see you and your man killing zombies at the entrance. You've gotten quite chubby, so I knew you must have a lot of supplies. I didn't expect you to have so many. It seems like you were stockpiling supplies when I saw you in City C that day. Tell me honestly, how did you know there would be a zombie outbreak?"

I sneered, "You want to know? Then let me go and I'll tell you."

I had barely finished speaking when Jiang Kexin rushed up and slapped me again. I said, "What did I say? Why do you keep slapping me? You're definitely jealous, the kind of anger that comes from a current girlfriend towards her ex." Zhu Chen is the type who responds better to gentle persuasion than force. I put on a wronged expression and said, "Why does your wife keep hitting me? I'm tied up here, stop bullying me, okay? I'll tell you a secret about the apocalypse, which is why we've stockpiled so many supplies."
