Chapter 8 Encountering a Madman

I said fiercely, "Those people were too arrogant."

Ji Lin'an put down his water glass: "We have skills, so we prepared our supplies early and don't have to worry about food and drink. But ordinary people who want to survive for a few months in the apocalypse must have their own methods."

I looked at Ji Lin'an: "So what do we do next? We haven't finished today's zombie mission yet, and your car has been gloriously sacrificed."

Ji Lin'an smiled and said, "Out with the old, in with the new. We haven't used today's treasure chest yet. What kind of car do you like? We'll conjure up a new one."

Although Ji Lin'an said it with a smile, he couldn't hide the weariness in his eyes.

I forced a smile: "I don't know much about cars, but you do. You can choose one that suits your needs."

Ji Lin'an nodded and started browsing car apps. Sure enough, men are like women when it comes to cars—they can perk them up no matter how tired or uncomfortable they are. While he picked out a car, I started searching for action movies. Shortly after the apocalypse began, there was a power outage and internet disruption. Ji Lin'an cleverly conjured up a satellite network from his treasure chest, and we happily regained internet freedom. I watched movies where, during car chases, the passenger would always be shooting at the other car. Today I had guns, race cars, and terrorists, but no female lead shooting at the other car. I've really wasted all those action movies. Next time I encounter one, I'll definitely take them down—no, I hope there won't be a next time.

While Ji Lin'an was still choosing a car, I suddenly remembered the little girl still in the zombie horde. I found another drone and flew it out to check. The zombie horde had dispersed, and the manhole cover was gone. I adjusted the drone's mode and flew near the manhole cover but didn't see the little girl. I didn't know if she had escaped or been infected. I flew towards the blind old woman's house. Her door was open, and I could see that the inside was a mess. I flew to a high place and looked around the area but didn't see the little girl or the old woman. I couldn't see them in the zombie horde either. Maybe they were safe now. I went back inside and told Ji Lin'an what I had seen. Ji Lin'an frowned slightly but didn't say anything. We didn't dare to speculate further and preferred to believe that the old woman and the old woman had escaped safely.

After dinner, Ji Lin'an and I decided to use the teleportation portal to go out and complete today's zombie mission. We put on our equipment and rushed to the place where the zombies were gathered. We quickly took care of a few zombies and rushed back home. We took showers and went to our rooms to rest.
