Night falls.
The city of Pasaybaek was shrouded in thick darkness, and not even a single star could be seen in the night sky.
Only a few torches swayed in the sand-carrying wind, casting a creepy dim light.
The slave area was located in the western corner of the city, surrounded by high walls and iron fences. The entrance was guarded by Hebrew soldiers and was under strict security.
The slaves huddled in crude huts, and the air smelled heavily of sweat.
Wadi sat in the corner, his back against the cold stone wall, looking outside through the gap in the shed.
He knew very well that tonight, if what Amon said was true, then the city of Pasaybek would be liberated.
They will also be free.
"Wadi, it's almost time."
Amon's hushed voice came from the darkness of the shed, which was at the edge of the slave quarters, and they could speak through the wooden wall.
Wadi nodded and whispered to the slaves around him to confirm again. They were responsible for contacting the people in other sheds: "Is everyone ready?"
The men nodded vigorously: "We have already notified the others, and they will act immediately after hearing the signal."
Wadi took a deep breath, his eyes became fierce: “Okay, then proceed according to the plan.”
Just then, a low bell ringing sound was heard in the distance.
“Boom—”
This was the signal for the Hebrews to change guards, and it was time for the Egyptian slaves to move.
Amon stood up quickly and threw a small metal tool to Wadi through the crack in the wooden wall. "This is the key I stole from the Hebrew soldiers. You have to act quickly, or we will all be finished."
"You are responsible for opening the fence on the east side. I will lead the guards away."
Wadi took the tool and nodded: "Be careful."
Amon didn't say anything more, turned around and disappeared into the darkness.
Then he deliberately kicked over a wooden barrel, making a crisp sound.
A Hebrew soldier immediately became alert: "What's that noise? Who's there?"
Amon hid in the shadows, and when the soldier approached, he suddenly pounced on him from behind, covered his mouth with his hand, and stabbed his neck with a knife with his other hand.
The soldier's body fell limply, and Amon quickly dragged him aside, took off his armor and put it on himself.
"Changing of guard!" Amon imitated the accent of a Hebrew soldier and shouted to the guards in the distance.
Another guard heard the voice and walked over lazily: "Why so early? It's not time yet."
Amon lowered his head and pretended to be annoyed: "Big brother ordered us to change shifts in advance."
The guard didn't have any doubts, he just yawned and nodded: "Okay, I'll go rest, brother."
After the guards left, Amon quickly gestured in Wadi's direction.
Seeing this, Wadi took action immediately.
He took a few trusted slaves and quietly came to the fence on the east side and opened the lock with the key given by Amon.
"Hurry, hurry up!" Wadi urged in a low voice.
One by one, the slaves slipped through the gaps in the fence, moving lightly and quickly.
Their eyes were wide open and their nostrils dilated a little, but no one made a sound.
However, just as the last few slaves were about to pass, a Hebrew soldier suddenly noticed something unusual.
He held a torch and walked towards the fence. "Who's there? Stop right there!"
Amon's heart sank, but he quickly calmed down.
He stepped forward, blocking the fence and gradually moving closer to the soldier to block his view.
Moreover, he pretended to be impatient and said, "It's me. A few slaves were fighting over there just now, but everything is fine now."
The soldier looked at this unfamiliar yet familiar face and frowned: "Why are you here alone? Where are the others?"
Amon shrugged and said in a relaxed tone: "They are dealing with those lowly slaves."
The soldier's suspicion was not completely eliminated, and he took a few steps toward the fence to see what was going on.
A fierce look immediately flashed in Amon's eyes. He knew that he couldn't delay any longer.
Just as the soldier was about to discover that the fence was open, Amon suddenly pounced on him from behind, covered his mouth with his hand, and quickly took out a knife with his other hand and stabbed the soldier's spine.
The soldier's body fell limply, and Amon dragged him aside and quickly took off his armor.
"Hurry, go! Go!" Amon whispered to the last few slaves.
The slaves quickly passed through the fence and disappeared into the night.
Amon followed closely behind, his heart beating like a drum.
He knew that they were halfway there, but the real difficulty was still to come.
Wadi had gathered with the other slaves in the shadows outside, their faces filled with tension and excitement.
"Wadi! Where should we go now!" a slave asked in a low voice, his tense nerves clearing his brain.
Wadi glanced at everyone and lowered his voice: "According to the plan, we will go to the armory."
"Everyone follow Amon closely."
The slaves nodded and moved quickly.
Amon walked in front, leading the group through the narrow alleys, avoiding the patrolling Hebrew soldiers.
The armory is located in a remote corner in the south of the city, and there are not many guards here.
Amon had already figured out the situation here. He led his slaves and quietly approached, then hid in a shadow.
"There are twenty-six guards on both sides of the entrance." Amon whispered, "I will try to lead them away, and you can take the opportunity to go in."
Wadi nodded: "Be careful."
Amon said nothing and took quick action.
He ran breathlessly, attracting the guards' attention.
"Who?" a guard shouted vigilantly.
Amon then stepped out from the shadows, pretending to be panicked: "Oh no! Something happened in the slave area! Someone escaped!"
"We have lost a lot of people! We must send more people immediately!"
When the guards heard this, they immediately became nervous: "What? Take us to see it!"
Amon nodded and ran towards the slave area with two guards.
As soon as they walked away, Wadi immediately rushed into the armory with the slaves.
The armory is filled with a wide variety of weapons and armor.
The slaves moved quickly, picking up weapons and donning armor.
"Hurry, put on your armor and take up your weapons!" Wadi urged in a low voice.
The slaves quickly equipped themselves, and when they picked up their weapons again, there was light in their eyes again.
Wadi glanced at the crowd and continued in a low voice: "Brothers, we will fight for freedom tonight!"
"Everyone follow me closely and attack the South Gate as planned!"
The slaves growled in unison, their voices filled with fighting intent.
However, Amon was not so lucky.
He couldn't pull himself away, so he could only continue to move forward with the soldiers behind him.
