"Please give me more guidance in the future, Master Remheb..."
"I don't deserve it. I hope the elders will cooperate with me in the future. As long as we work together, Bahariya will get better and better..."
"Yeah! Yeah! Hahahahaha!"
"Sir, please allow us to welcome you once again to Bahariya..."
......
After the banquet, the night grew darker.
The hustle and bustle in Bahariya gradually died down.
Unlike the holy city of Cairo, Egypt, the nights here are almost pitch black, with no visibility of one's hand in front of one's face.
It seems that even the moon in the desert cannot illuminate this place.
Elder Jacob was smiling at Remheb and Nantong at this time and said: "My two lords, you are tired from the journey, you must rest well tonight!"
"I have ordered people to prepare accommodation, which is not far away. It is clean and comfortable. Don't worry, we will never neglect the adults who have come all the way from the capital of Holy Egypt!"
As he spoke, he held a torch and enthusiastically led them through several narrow alleys, eventually arriving at a slightly shabby little house.
Although the house is simple, it is well organized.
There was even a pitcher of water and some baked bread on the table, and the atmosphere in the cabin was filled with warmth.
Remheb nodded slightly, bowed slightly and said: "Thank you for the thoughtful arrangements, Elder!"
"Thank you for your help."
His voice was clear and his movements were humble and polite.
Elder Jacob waved his hands repeatedly, and hurried forward to support Remheb's body, saying with a smile: "No, no! Lord Remheb's visit is a blessing to our small town!"
"Besides, you came from the capital, which is the sacred place where the Holy Pharaoh resides!"
"This is what we should do! But sir, this room is too small, I'm afraid it will be a bit crowded for two people..."
When Remheb heard this, he just waved his hand and said, "Don't squeeze, don't squeeze, this is my... old servant, it's convenient for him to take care of me."
"So, I won't bother you any more."
Upon hearing this, Nan Tong bowed to Elder Jacob, but the elder just smiled apologetically and said nothing more.
"Come here, all of you..."
He gave a few more instructions and bowed a few more times before retreating with his entourage.
Only Remheb and Nantong were left alone in the room.
The surroundings became quiet and I could even hear a slight "buzzing" sound in my ears.
Remheb put down the papyrus in his hand, sat on the wooden stool, rubbed his shoulders gently, and then let out a long sigh.
"After two days of hard work, we are finally here."
"By the way, Master Nantong..."
Remheb moved closer to Nantong and lowered his voice.
"This elder is very enthusiastic, but I always feel like something is not right."
Nan Tong didn't respond in a hurry. He first walked to the window, squinted his eyes to look at the street outside, and checked every place in the house.
Then, he slowly turned around and said, "Remheb, there is a problem here."
He paused, his expression becoming more serious: "I can sense that there is some kind of magical energy here."
"That kind of magical energy is different from that of the magician of Holy Egypt, and the other party also used some magic that can hide this magic power."
"But it can't hide from my perception."
"Before I set out, His Majesty the Saint Pharaoh reminded me that this new city had just been taken back from the Hebrews, so there must be hidden dangers."
"So, he asked me to hide my magic so that it can be used in a critical moment to help you."
Remheb's eyes widened when he heard this: "Your Majesty the Holy Pharaoh has predicted this?"
"So, those magical fluctuations are..."
Nan Tong nodded, sat opposite him, and also lowered his voice: "I am using high-level magic power now."
"The magic in this city is different. It carries a sense of mystery, different from the Hebrew fire magic and different from the desert magic of Holy Egypt."
After hearing this, Remheb nodded thoughtfully: "I see."
"It seems that as His Majesty Saint Pharaoh said, there must be something wrong with this city."
He paused, then continued, "I just observed everyone at the banquet, but I didn't find anything unusual for the time being."
"However, I would like to check the previous account books and population records tomorrow, perhaps I can find some clues."
Nan Tong nodded slightly, very satisfied with his answer: "Yes, it is right to check these."
"In the past, Egyptian cities had the custom of recording income, expenditure and population in order to manage granaries and taxes."
"You can ask tomorrow, but it won't go very smoothly."
"His Majesty the Holy Pharaoh must have his reasons for sending you here."
Remheb nodded and said solemnly: "You are right. Since it is the will of His Majesty the Holy Pharaoh, I will do my best."
"We must not let His Majesty the Holy Pharaoh be humiliated."
Nan Tong nodded and patted his shoulder: "Sleep well tonight."
"I am everything."
Remheb looked at the kind-hearted Nantong and felt a warm feeling in his heart. He nodded and finally lay down.
However, he couldn't sleep.
It was not until the moonlight faded that Remheb reluctantly closed his eyes.
The next morning, Remheb got up early, washed, put on his robes, and went to find Elder Jacob with a few soldiers.
He knocked on the door of Elder Jacob and said, "Elder, I am under the order of His Majesty the Holy Pharaoh to take over this city. I would like you to take me to see the old account books and population records so that I can understand the details of the city."
