Chapter 404: The Rumored Paradise

Far away from the prosperous land of the Holy Kingdom of Egypt.

Hebrew Empire.

The royal capital is Jerusalem.

In a stone alley in the desolate capital, two young boys, one sixteen and the other seventeen, were squeezed in the shadow of the narrow alley.

The light of torches in the distance flickered slightly, and the sound of the boots of the patrolling guards came and went.

They didn't care at all, they just held their breath, but their faces couldn't hide the excitement in their hearts.

"What is this 'market meeting'?"

"What a novel name!"

The younger boy asked in a low voice, his eyes full of anticipation.

"There are all kinds of things! New and interesting things!"

“We’ve never seen this before!”

The other boy came closer eagerly, his voice full of longing for Holy Egypt.

But apparently, discussing Holy Egypt is strictly forbidden in this land.

So he glanced around cautiously.

The surrounding alleys were empty, with only the sound of the wind passing through them.

No one and nothing else.

So, he lowered his voice and continued, "I heard that there are all kinds of stalls on the streets of Holy Egypt, and there is an inexhaustible supply of food and drink!"

"You know what? Even the poor in Holy Egypt won't go hungry!"

"The money they earn every day is enough to support a whole family!"

"Besides, I heard that there is a terrifyingly tall stone tower in Cairo, Egypt, which is more beautiful than our temple!"

The sixteen-year-old boy bit his lip when he heard the other person's words.

There was a mixture of curiosity and uneasiness in his eyes.

On the one hand, the reason why the other party knew this information was because one of his brothers was in a city in Holy Egypt.

Of course, it was a city occupied by the Hebrew Empire.

As the fame of Holy Egypt spread across the continent, even the Hebrew soldiers in the city became curious about Holy Egypt.

Although Holy Egypt was their mortal enemy, their mortal enemy, according to rumors, lived a life that seemed like heaven on earth.

Obviously, that was very attractive to the Hebrew soldiers who had no food to eat, had to save food, and had a meager income.

The long-term suffering brought by this almost wore out their hatred for Holy Egypt.

Especially when they learn that their enemies are now living like this.

So, the elder brother of one of the young men told the news to his younger brother.

He planned to go to Holy Egypt with his only relative.

Because he knew very well that after this natural disaster, famine had broken out in the Hebrew Empire.

If he didn't take his younger brother away, then he and his younger brother might die on this land.

And his younger brother told the news to his best playmate.

As for his brother's good friend, he was also well aware that Holy Egypt was the mortal enemy of the Hebrew Empire.

But privately, rumors about that distant country grew like weeds.

Can't stop.

It was a kingdom without famine.

The river is clear and the market is bustling.

Even the air smelled of honey and spices.

When these wonderful images appeared in his mind, he swallowed and whispered, "Are you really going?"

"If you really want to go, can you take me with you?"

"Otherwise, if you leave, I will starve to death here."

"My father died in the war, and my mother died of famine. If you hadn't brought me food occasionally, I'm afraid I would have..."

Hearing this, the seventeen-year-old boy just grinned and patted him on the shoulder.

"You are my best friend, I will never abandon you!"

"It's just that the food my brother has sent is getting less and less. I'm afraid if this continues, we'll all starve to death here."

"Then let's meet tonight under the old olive tree outside the city."

"Just don't let anyone see it!"

"Let's sneak over there and no one will know!"

"Then we can dress up and blend into the crowd and successfully enter Holy Egypt!"

When the sixteen-year-old boy heard this, he hesitated.

His heart was beating like a drum, which made him very nervous.

After all, they had to be careful when mentioning the name of Holy Egypt.

Not to mention going to Holy Egypt.

But the picture described by the other party lingered in his mind.

Delicious food, beautiful scenery, and being able to fill your stomach every day.

Isn’t that heaven!

So he nodded immediately: "Okay, see you tonight!"

......

The night deepened and Jerusalem fell into deathly silence.

The sixteen-year-old boy was wrapped in a tattered cloak, holding half a piece of hard bread in his arms, and walking tiptoe in the shadows of the street.

The moonlight sprinkled coldly on the wasteland outside the city, and the old olive tree stood alone in the distance.

He huddled in the shadow of the trees, rubbing his hands, staring into the distance, hoping that the seventeen-year-old boy would appear.

As time passed, the wind grew colder.

He just felt that even breathing seemed to become a little difficult.

Suddenly, a chaotic sound of footsteps came from a distance. It was not the light footsteps of one person, but the heavy and neat sound of boots.

He shuddered, shrank his body, and held his breath.

The light of torches pierced the silence; it was a group of Hebrew soldiers.

"Come out, little one!"

The leading soldier roared, his voice like a knife, making the boy's eardrums hurt.
