Chapter 838 The Great City Lord!

The sun was setting when David and Elisha left.

They strolled along Hebron's famous terraced streets, where the houses on either side took on a warm orange hue in the setting sun.

David was explaining to Elisha all the time about Hebron.

Although Elisha had lived in the territory of Hebron before, he knew very little about the affairs of Hebron.

"The design of this street is very unique. The street follows the hillside terrain and rises step by step, which not only saves space but also helps with drainage."

At this time, an old man with a cane, after seeing David, simply stood at the door and greeted David: "Thank you, Lord, for repairing this staircase for us. Now we don't have to worry about slipping on rainy days!"

David smiled and nodded, then told Elisha, "You see, city construction should not only be beautiful, but also practical."

"This type of infrastructure, in particular, will directly affect people's daily lives."

Elisha blinked as he listened. "Lord David, so the infrastructure you're talking about is what people need on a daily basis?"

"Just like you need to walk when you go out, and drink water when you eat."

When David heard Elisha's words, he nodded a few more times.

"Yes, to put it simply, it's the four categories of food, clothing, housing and transportation."

"If these four categories are met, people's most basic needs in life can be met."

Elisha nodded, then took out the papyrus and began to draw and write.

As night fell, they came to a simple little restaurant.

The boss recognized David and immediately gave him a warm welcome.

"Oh my! Lord City Lord! What a rare guest!"

"Would you like to try our roast lamb? We just slaughtered it today!"

David smiled and shook his head: "No need for special treatment, we can just have some home-cooked food."

At the dinner table, David and Elisha shared their experiences of the day. Elisha talked about the interesting goods in the market, especially the silks and spices brought by the Holy Egyptian caravan.

David talked about the irrigation problems he discovered when inspecting farmland north of the city.

“The water system is the foundation of agriculture.”

David explained to Elisha as he cut the roast meat on the plate.

"I plan to build a new aqueduct to bring snowmelt from the mountains to the plains during the winter."

"This way, crops can be adequately irrigated even during the dry season."

When Elisha heard this, he asked worriedly, "But this will cost a lot of money, right?"

"I heard from His Majesty the Holy Pharaoh's soldiers that they spend a lot of money just to transport food."

"Brother David, what you are talking about seems to be even more difficult than transporting food and grass."

David nodded: "Indeed."

"But I have cut unnecessary expenses. For example, I cancelled the luxurious decoration project of the City Lord's Mansion and used the funds to invest in infrastructure instead."

"Of course, in the short term, it's savings, but in the long term, it's investment."

Dinner was a big one, some meat, some vegetables, and some potato and bean stew.

Elisha even thought that this was the most delicious meal he had ever eaten.

Of course, it’s not just because of the food itself, but also because of the atmosphere of equal communication.

Here, David is not a high-ranking city lord, but an experienced teacher.

In Elisha's view, David at this moment reminded him of the feeling of meeting His Majesty the Holy Pharaoh.

After dinner, they walked back to their residence along the winding streets.

The night sky is dotted with stars, and the lights of thousands of houses in the city are dotted like stars.

David and Elisha were walking on the road, and the young man was sighing with emotion.

“Hebron is changing for the better. You have transformed the city in such a short time.”

"That's amazing! Brother David!"

David shook his head and smiled, and he put his hand on Elisha's shoulder.

"The credit does not belong to me alone, but is the result of the joint efforts of the people of this city."

"I just provide direction and resources. It's the hard-working citizens who really change the city."

They passed a square where several children were chasing and playing in the moonlight.

Seeing David, the children ran over excitedly and surrounded him.

"Uncle David! Can you teach us how to play that game?"

A girl tugged at David's clothes and begged.

David smiled and agreed.

Elisha was surprised to see the young city lord squatting among a group of children, patiently teaching them a traditional game that required the use of stones and ropes.

He not only demonstrated the moves but also carefully explained the rules and techniques of the game.

"This game is called Sea Sailing. It is said that it originated from an ancient navigator."

“The stone represents the ship, and the rope represents the route. Whoever can reach the destination fastest is the best captain.”

The children shouted and began to try.

Elisha also joined in and played with the children.

"Ha ha ha ha!"

"Brother David, why are you at the end?"

“Hahahahahaha…”

Laughter echoed through the night air, and David's face was filled with pure joy.

At that moment, he was just an ordinary older brother. As for Elisha, he briefly regained the joy of being with his family.

When the game was over and the children said goodbye reluctantly, David took Elisha and continued on their journey.

It was already late at night when we returned to the City Lord's Mansion.

David's study was brightly lit, and his desk was even piled with various documents.
