Chapter 11 Meeting with Senior Students
Zhou Jiu got up at six o'clock sharp in the morning and met Lin Xiu and Sun You at the school's training room at six twenty.
After the three finished running, Zhou Jiu and Lin Xiu started sparring again, while Sun You stood aside with a water bottle, looking at the war confrontations and battle analyses from previous years.
The three of them have been living like this for several years; it's a habit they developed when they returned to Star E from the desolate planet to study.
After about half an hour of brutal, hand-to-hand combat, Lin Xiu and Zhou Jiu lay in awkward positions, panting heavily as they rested and continued their banter.
After the two finished their daily verbal sparring and training, Sun You came over, and Zhou Jiu and Lin Xiu had already sat up.
"Our entire first-year military training will begin in three days. Mechanical engineering students will have a week of interstellar travel practice, and they'll likely arrive at the training base in about three days as well." Sun You explained.
He spoke out about what he knew.
"No wonder the entire dormitory building was empty when I went there." Zhou Jiu nodded, indicating that he understood.
Sun You said, "I just sent you my and Lin Xiu's class schedules. Take a look and see if you can choose to take the same courses as us, except for your required major courses."
“I looked at my regular course schedule yesterday, and it’s not very long. Oh, your mecha training course overlaps with it.” Zhou Jiu opened his schedule and searched in the course selection system. He pointed to the screen in front of him and said to Sun You, “There is a class like this that won’t affect my regular course or my selection of your other courses.”
Sun You looked at the mecha course listed in parentheses, indicating it was a required course for third-year students. Lin Xiu also came over and asked, "Zhou Jiu, are you alright? You're going to take a mecha course with third-year students? You're trying to run before you can even walk?"
Zhou Jiu shook his head: "I have far fewer professional courses than you, so I have much more time. There are courses in the virtual space of the military academy section on basic mecha maneuvers, which I can learn online. We can discuss how many fixed times each week to practice together in the mecha training room."
Sun You agreed, "Your physical fitness is good. Generally speaking, your performance in virtual training reflects what you can actually do. Although we didn't pass the fourth level yesterday, I think you can do it. Your talent in combat is truly undeniable. Since you have much less time for mecha classes than us, it's feasible for you to specialize in the higher-level courses and make up for the basics in your spare time."
Zhou Jiu squinted her eyes smugly, raised an eyebrow at Lin Xiu, and saw that Sun You had praised her.
Sun You is a very reserved person who speaks little and rarely praises others. Moreover, as a battlefield analyst who has watched a lot of battle videos and made it another career, such praise is of a very high standard.
Yes, Sun You's side job is battlefield analysis on StarNet. Lin Xiu is another commentator in her videos, and she runs her fortune-telling shop. They make a living this way. Of course, they also have a joint company now. Relying on their savings and connections from their time on the desolate planet, they opened a small shop selling second-hand parts. The mecha parts repairman there is Sun You's father, their mutual teacher, Mr. Sun.
After discussing some important matters, Sun You accompanied Lin Xiu to the medical room. They were having a date today, and training time was over. Zhou Jiu watched their backs as she continued practicing her punches. The gate to her mental palace gradually cracked open, and a fragmented memory from the past flooded back into Zhou Jiu's mind.
"I've told you so many times, you can't punch like that. Use your internal energy, stretch your muscles, and then punch along the meridians that feel most comfortable to you." This was her father's voice from her memory. Zhou Jiu blinked, wiped away the sadness, and punched with the rhythm of her memory.
After throwing a punch, Zhou Jiu's eyes flickered. The feeling she just experienced was similar to the feeling she had when she did fortune telling. Was it mobilizing her mental energy?
Zhou Jiu threw another punch until the alarm clock rang at 7:20. Then Zhou Jiu stopped and headed towards the medical room.
"How can I help you?" A medical robot slid over.
"I need a medical pod to relieve muscle pain."
"Okay, Zhou Jiu, a student majoring in mechanical engineering, please come this way. One star coin per minute."
Zhou Jiu lay down in the medical pod. The robot clicked "start" and repeated, "Based on Zhou Jiu's overall condition, a ten-minute treatment period has been selected for him. After the treatment, please leave through the door on the right. Enjoy your medical treatment process. See you next time."
Zhou Jiu left the medical room feeling refreshed. After taking a shower in her dormitory, she followed the navigation to the school's first canteen. She had gone to the second canteen yesterday and hadn't seen the other one yet.
But Zhou Jiu soon regretted it.
"Lin Xiu." A somewhat familiar voice made Zhou Jiu turn around, but Zhou Jiu's gaze was suddenly drawn to another one.
He was of average height in the crowd, dressed in the same clothes as everyone else, with no striking features or unusual movements. But when Zhou Jiu saw his eyes, she knew it was him.
Zhou Jiu's gaze swept across quickly, and only Chu Zhao, who was in the middle of it, felt that focus. His gaze also turned towards it curiously, and in just that instant, Zhou Jiu greeted Dora.
"Hello, Senior Dora."
"Hey Lin Xiu, what brings you to the cafeteria alone? Aren't you freshmen closer to the second cafeteria?" Dora said as she got her food.
Zhou Jiu suddenly realized that she shouldn't have blurted out that she was Lin Xiu back then. "I was just curious, so I came to take a look."
"She's Lin Xiu, the freshman who said the senior students were bad at mecha. I mentioned it on the forum yesterday." Dora gave a very ordinary introduction, but Zhou Jiu felt a barrage of gazes.
"Don't worry, the senior students are all kind-hearted and will only resolve things peacefully. I suggest you quickly enter the mecha competition section of the military academy. Yesterday, some of my classmates couldn't resist showing their affection for their junior and sent you the battle mode. You haven't been responding to the challenge for a long time and you're getting a bit irritable. My seniors will eventually be unable to resist challenging you to non-mecha battles." Dora reminded you with a smile.
Zhou Jiu nodded obediently, "I understand. I'll level up to level 3 soon and enter the mech competition section." But in his heart, he thought: Brother Xiu, I'm sorry. I'll be nicer to you in the future.
"Dora, don't bully the child. Let her go get the food first," Chu Zhao said calmly.
"A child? My face isn't a baby face, it's a lady's face, okay? You damn child, wait till I take you in and you'll see if I'm still a child." Zhou Jiu smiled as he served the food, and soon sat down opposite Chu Zhao under the puzzled gazes of the others.
