Chapter 12 A Copper Coin
Zhou Jiu glanced at the food on Chu Zhao's plate. It was a very simple and light breakfast: bread, fried eggs, and lettuce. It was a bit different from her slightly greasy barbecue sandwich. Only then did Zhou Jiu realize that it wasn't very elegant for her to eat the full sandwich, but she quickly forgot about it after smelling the aroma and started taking a bite.
"Lin Xiu, these three days are the only break of the first semester, aren't you going out to have fun?" Dora asked curiously.
After Zhou Jiu finished chewing the food in his mouth, he moved the pancake to the side before saying, "I'm going to walk around the campus now, and then go out with my friends later." Zhen Linxiu was indeed on vacation and was having a wonderful date with Sun You. At this moment, Linxiu was probably very happy, finally getting rid of her as a third wheel, but he couldn't keep up the act for long, and he would be exposed sooner or later.
But she had classes. She guessed that since the other mechanical engineering students were doing interstellar internships, the instructors had probably arranged similar courses about getting to know starships for her.
"Would you like me to show you around the school?" Dora asked with a smile.
Zhou Jiu quickly shook her head, a sweet smile on her face, "No need to trouble you, senior, I've made plans with a friend." Actually, she needed to log into the "Simple Introduction to Starships" course on the military academy section at 8:30.
Zhou Jiu started eating again, but Chu Zhao across from her thought to herself: She's lying.
The conversation quickly shifted to mecha racing.
"Wow, there's a post on the school forum saying that Brother Chu, your record has been broken."
"Which record of Brother Chu's?"
"The first and second rounds of the Little Beast Battle are against a freshman. This year's freshmen are pretty good." Dora scrolled through the school forum, sighing slightly, then added, "Lin Xiu's mecha piloting is alright too, though not as amazing as this freshman. Do you know Zhou Jiu?"
Zhou Jiu nodded, then quickly finished his food, said goodbye to the senior students, and slipped away.
As he stood up, Zhou Jiushou flicked the copper coin he had taken out of his pocket with his fingers, calculated the angle at which it would bounce back after falling, and tossed it down.
The crisp sound of copper coins rang out as Zhou Jiu hurriedly left. Chu Zhao bent down and picked up the copper coin that had just fallen at his feet. When he stood up, Zhou Jiu was already out of sight. Chu Zhao held the copper coin and examined it for a moment. He turned around and looked back, somewhat puzzled. Had she done that on purpose?
"What's wrong, Brother Chu?" Nan Yu looked at Chu Zhao holding something he had never seen before and asked curiously, "What's this?"
"Oh, something my junior accidentally left behind. I'll return it to her another day," Chu Zhao said, putting the copper coin in his hand. After a moment of contemplation, he asked, "Nanyu, don't you think Lin Xiu's voice sounds familiar?"
"Ah, you mean it sounds a lot like the girl from last night? But the girl from last night had a nicer voice. Lin Xiu, you seem a bit reserved, your voice is too sweet." Nan Yu continued eating the peanuts in his mouth, speaking very casually.
Chu Zhao, however, did not think so. He felt that it was the same voice, and after Dora called out to her, her gaze was clearly initially directed at him.
As Zhou Jiu left the second canteen, she walked with a light step, humming a song in her heart. Now that she was full, she felt that delicious food and love could be chosen at the same time. She turned on her personal terminal and sent a voice message to the three-person group: "I met the person from my dreams today. I think I fell in love at first sight. It's unbelievable."
A moment later, Sun You sent a congratulatory emoji. Lin Xiu sent the same emoji, followed by a long voice message: "Zhou Jiu, as the only single person in the three-person group, please use your mischievousness to win him over as soon as possible and help Youyou and me get rid of this mess. I don't want to hear you talk about your dreams anymore. Superstition, feudalism, and detachment from reality. If this continues, Youyou and I will send you to see a psychiatrist."
Zhou Jiu glanced at it but didn't click on it. She knew Lin Xiu definitely wouldn't have anything nice to say. She had to go to class. A new semester, a new atmosphere. Although the new class she was attending alone wasn't unfamiliar, she was still looking forward to the starship-related professional courses within the military academy.
For three consecutive days, freshman orientation officially began. Zhou Jiu, pulling her small red suitcase, gave Sun You and Lin Xiu a high-five and happily walked towards her dormitory. As a technical major, her training intensity differed from that of command and mecha pilots. Looking at the sunshine, Zhou Jiu was in a very good mood.
Upon entering the dormitory, she was the last one to arrive. There were three people in the dormitory, and Zhou Jiu recognized her as the other two roommates in room 581 of building C.
Zhou Jiu knocked on the door to signal the person inside, then pushed the door open and went in.
"Hi, Zhou Jiu from Mechanical Engineering, it's a pleasure to meet you."
"My name is Molly, we're in the same major, it's great to finally meet you."
Molly had blonde hair, light blue eyes, and sharp features. Zhou Jiu's eyes lit up; she was beautiful.
"Wu Ke'er, majoring in biological sciences."
They shook hands with each other as a preliminary introduction.
The three chatted for a while, and just ten minutes after Zhou Jiu came up, the assembly call for new recruits rang.
A familiar voice rang out: "Attention, everyone. In five minutes, put on your training uniforms and line up in rows according to your height."
The two had already changed into their training uniforms. After seeing the look in their eyes, Zhou Jiu immediately said, "Aren't you going to leave first? I'll change and catch up with them in a bit."
"Then we'll be going now." With that, Molly and Wu Ke'er walked out, closing the door behind them so Zhou Jiu could change his clothes.
Zhou Jiu calmly opened the folding suitcase and took out a black training uniform.
With three minutes remaining, Zhou Jiu had already learned about the distribution of several bases and accommodation buildings before arriving. For Zhou Jiu, who was currently living on the second floor, the time was more than enough. When he was scavenging on the desolate planet, the daytime assembly time was usually three minutes.
Thank you to the instructors for taking care of the technical department. Zhou Jiu smiled at himself in the mirror. Today was still a day full of energy.
Five minutes before the bugle sounded, Zhou Jiu arrived at his position in time. All the majors had gathered here, and only the different badges on their collars distinguished them.
