Chapter 77 Grades are Paramount (7)

Only two blood-stained corpses remained in the classroom.

Soothing music was playing over the loudspeaker. Xiao Cheng turned her head as if sensing something and saw Fang He leaning against the door, knocking on the door frame with a smile: "Classmate, get out of class is over, aren't you going to leave?"

With a lunch break of nearly three hours, they decided to have lunch first and then summarize the existing clues.

The cafeteria is right next to the teaching building. It's a small building with only two floors. If you get a little closer, you can smell the rich aroma of food in the air.

After the school bell rang, all the teachers and students seemed to have vanished instantly, leaving the huge school feeling empty.

"Where are the other players?" Xiao Cheng asked, somewhat puzzled. She hadn't seen anyone else until she left the teaching building.

"Number 2 and Number 3 had a disagreement and split up," Fang He explained.

"Number 2 and Number 3?" Xiao Cheng only knew that Liu Xiaoying always thought Number 3 was a green tea bitch, but she didn't have much of an impression of Number 2.

"The players who came in this time..." Fang He thought for a moment and said tactfully, "Their interpersonal relationships are a bit complicated."

"Will it affect our passage through customs?" Xiao Cheng frowned, looking somewhat troubled.

Fang He was slightly taken aback, then couldn't help but chuckle: "Don't worry, it won't happen."

The cafeteria was also completely empty, with only one window open. The food was all served on large stainless steel trays, steaming hot and even looking somewhat tempting.

"The food is so good?" Xiao Cheng suddenly felt flattered. "It's free? Is there some kind of trap here?"

"There's no other food. Don't worry, the game won't let us starve to death." Fang He took a tray and chopsticks from the shelf and handed them over. "Don't take too much. We can't waste food here."

“I know, it’s the ninth rule of the school regulations.” Xiao Cheng sighed softly, “I almost died because of it, twice.”

Fang He paused slightly as he served the food: "I didn't realize you had such a strong sense of sacrifice when it came to breaking the law."

“Then I’ve figured out three school rules.” Xiao Cheng started to gloat. “Anyway, the first time it was just a warning, and besides, I even killed an NPC, so this isn’t a loss.”

"How can you be sure that was a warning, and not that you actually died once?" Fang He lowered his eyes indifferently, avoiding her gaze. "After all, when NPCs violate the rules, they are instantly killed."

His words sent a chill down Xiao Cheng's spine.

The more she thought about it, the more likely it seemed, and she exclaimed in shock, "No way? It's not like playing an RPG game where we have a fixed number of lives, and once we've used them all up, they're gone, right?"

"Not necessarily," Fang He replied seriously. "What if we can be resurrected by watching ads?"

Xiao Cheng was completely dumbfounded. Was this guy kidding me?

Then she saw the smile that Fang He couldn't hide in his eyes.

Xiao Cheng: "..." You really are kidding me, damn it!

"I'm serious, you're joking with me?!" Xiao Cheng accused him righteously. "What kind of time is this to be joking?!"

"Hmm, I didn't expect you to trust me so much." Fang He didn't pretend this time, and openly curled the corners of his mouth. "It seems that in your eyes, I'm a pretty good person."

Xiao Cheng froze for a few seconds, then inexplicably felt her ears burning. She hurriedly buried her head in her food and shoveled down a few mouthfuls of rice, mumbling incoherently, "Weren't we talking about serious business? I thought you were really reliable."

Fang He looked dignified, and his eating movements were quite elegant, taking a bite of food and a bite of rice without making a mess.

Xiao Cheng waited for a long time without receiving a response, and looked up in confusion, only to meet his smiling gaze.

"Don't talk while eating." Fang He slowly put down his chopsticks. "Isn't this showing you how reliable I am?"

Xiao Cheng: "..." Thank you, I've been proven reliable again.

"Getting back to the main point, besides the rule against wasting food, what other two school rules do you know for sure now?"

"The third rule is to respect teachers and value their teachings; the fourth rule is to falsely accuse classmates."

Xiao Cheng remembered this very clearly, but as soon as she finished speaking, she saw Fang He's hesitant expression.

"What's wrong?" she asked, puzzled. Then she thought back carefully. She wasn't mistaken. Or was there a conflict between the clues Fang He had obtained and this?

"It's nothing," Fang He shook his head. "I was just amazed by your amazing social skills. How did you manage to offend all your classmates and teachers in just one morning?"

At this point, Xiao Cheng was no longer sleepy. Filled with righteous indignation, she slammed her hand on the table and stood up: "It's all that judge's fault! He's so petty! I get so angry just thinking about it! Guess how many initial points he gave me? Zero!"

"Zero is the beginning of everything, and also the end of everything," Fang He calmly reassured her.

Xiao Cheng angrily shoveled a couple more mouthfuls of rice into her mouth, and after calming herself down a bit, she asked, "What was your initial score?"

"When eating, one should not speak." Fang He avoided answering.

"How much?" Xiao Cheng repeated.

Fang He sighed helplessly: "Fifty."

Xiao Cheng: "..." Why ask? Let's eat.

“Besides the ninth school rule that we both encountered, I have two more new ones here.” After finishing his meal, Fang He took out two slips of paper from his pocket and placed them side by side in front of Xiao Cheng.

"School rule number five: How can someone your age sleep soundly?"

"Sixth school rule: you were abandoned from the very first word."

“In my class, we had English class this morning,” Fang He explained. “The fifth trigger was set by my deskmate, and the sixth trigger was set by the student in front of me. Without exception, they both died.”

"So the consequence of NPCs violating school rules is death? What about us? Do we get special treatment because we're exchange students?" Xiao Cheng now even felt that her initial guess about the number of lives might actually be correct.

"Is it possible that the death wasn't caused by triggering school rules, but rather by a deliberate violation?" Fang He tapped the table lightly with his finger. "School rules are published for all students, which is reasonable, right?"

"So the deaths of NPCs are actually announcing the school rules to us one by one?" Xiao Cheng felt he understood, and slapped his forehead in sudden realization. "As long as we pay attention to the cause of their deaths, that's enough!"

“But this is just speculation.” Fang He was not as optimistic as Xiao Cheng thought. “After all, based on the current few rules, they are all very normal rules. We can even draw a series of school rules by analogy. Whether we guess correctly or not is not important. As long as we avoid them all, that’s fine.”

“In that case, the deaths of NPCs become meaningless.” Xiao Cheng frowned slightly. “But since the game is arranged this way, it means…”

"There must be school rules that we can't possibly guess."

The two said it almost in unison.

Just then, a loud noise suddenly came from above their heads, and the entire ceiling shook violently.

This was followed by hysterical, piercing screams.
