Xiao Cheng and Fang He exchanged a glance, then immediately turned and ran towards the second floor of the cafeteria.
Covered in blood, Number 3 ran over, covering her face, and almost bumped straight into Xiao Cheng. Fortunately, Fang He reached out and caught her in time, preventing her from tumbling down the stairs.
Number 3 steadied himself, but his whole body trembled violently like a frightened bird. He refused to lower his hand and mumbled in a daze, "It wasn't me...it wasn't me...I don't know...haha! I don't know anything!"
She burst through the gap between Xiao Cheng and Fang He, stumbling and running out of the cafeteria, looking completely erratic.
Xiao Cheng was seeing this scene for the first time: "She...is she crazy?"
"I don't know, but it's not uncommon for players to be driven mad by games," Fang He said calmly, looking at the bloody footprints left on the stairs. "Let's see what happened."
The moment I stepped onto the second floor, a strong smell of blood mixed with the odor of disinfectant hit me.
Looking at the blood smeared all over the corridor, Xiao Cheng frowned uncomfortably: "With this much blood loss, the person must have been drained dry, right?"
“It’s not all blood.” Fang He wiped his hand on the wall and then held his sticky fingertips up to Xiao Cheng. “It’s paint, but it’s strange, there’s no smell of paint here at all.”
"Don't worry about the taste yet. The bloody footprints on number 3 started there." Xiao Cheng pointed to the toilet at the end of the corridor and said, "Given the nature of this game, I bet there's a corpse inside that looks disgusting."
As it turned out, she was right.
The dead body was a girl in a school uniform. It was impossible to identify her at the moment because her entire head was smashed. Only the bones were finely crushed, while the skin and flesh were still connected. She was upside down, with her head forced into the drain of the pool.
There was still a small amount of blood in the pool, very light, a pale pink color. Two strands of hair emerged from the drain, floating on the surface, swaying gently like seaweed.
In the corner against the wall lay an iron hammer almost completely stained with blood, and the bloodstains were particularly concentrated in that area, clearly indicating the location of the crime.
On the handle of the iron hammer, there was a spot with significantly less blood; it was a faint handprint. Xiao Cheng reached over to compare it; it was probably a girl's hand, even smaller than hers.
Fang He was looking at the corpse by the pool. His brows were slightly furrowed, and his lips were slightly pursed, making him look very serious.
"Any findings?" Xiao Cheng glanced at the toilet stalls as well. There were four stalls in total, all of which had their doors open, and the trash cans were empty as well.
"Not at the moment." He shook his head, looked around, and then took out the cleaning gloves that the cleaning lady used from the empty bucket next to him and put them on his own.
“We might have to move the body out, otherwise we won’t be able to identify her.” He found a good angle to grab the body by the waist and slowly pulled her out.
The skin and flesh were swollen from being soaked in water, completely blocking the pipes. Even the slightest movement would produce a harsh cracking sound.
Xiao Cheng felt a little nauseous at the sight, and couldn't help but admire Fang He as a reliable adult male. No wonder Number 3 was so scared; anyone who saw this scene would go crazy.
Oh, Fang He.
He had even pulled half of the corpse's head out.
"You're a true hero," Xiao Cheng said admiringly, showering him with compliments without reservation. "Boss, I respect you as a real man!"
Fang He looked over with amusement: "Come help? It's not difficult, it's similar to pulling up a radish, and the final pop is especially stress-relieving."
Xiao Cheng waved her hands repeatedly, politely declining: "No, no, you enjoy the fun of pulling up radishes, I won't bother you."
The body was quickly lowered down, and the water in the pool began to slowly flow into the sewer.
Fang He took a slight breath, then laid her flat on the ground. Her head and neck were limp and crumpled up, so swollen they were almost unrecognizable.
But it has facial features; it's a player.
By process of elimination, there are only two possibilities: Liu Xiaoying or No. 2.
Xiao Cheng's first reaction was to look for the card with numbers written on it on her body; all the other players wore one around their necks.
But the corpse's neck was empty; there was nothing there.
She became a little nervous: "They're about the same size... Oh right, the tattoos! Liu Xiaoying has a phoenix tattoo on her right arm!"
Fang He didn't speak, just glanced at her indifferently, then lifted up the sleeves of the corpse.
What came into view was a large expanse of blood.
The skin on both of the corpse's arms had been completely removed, leaving nothing behind.
Xiao Cheng stared in astonishment, her eyes wide: "How could this be..."
"Wait a minute." Fang He interrupted her and walked towards the pool.
There was still a shallow layer of water in the pool, dripping down. He gently stirred the surface of the water, then stuck his finger into the drain, stirred it a couple of times, and scooped out a clump of something that was almost washed away by the water.
Fang He couldn't handle it while wearing gloves, so he handed it to Xiao Cheng.
It's a student ID.
Xiao Cheng carefully opened the outer cover, revealing the paper inside with blurred writing.
It was so badly damaged that no other information could be seen; only a number could be vaguely discerned.
2.
The one who died was number 2.
Xiao Cheng unconsciously breathed a sigh of relief. She was suddenly surprised to realize that, for a moment, she was genuinely happy.
The one who died was Number 2, who had nothing to do with him, not Liu Xiaoying.
