Before the sun reappeared, the two hurried to begin their search.
Hell was completely desolate, far larger than they had imagined. They had been too busy dealing with the corpses to have the time or energy to venture deeper.
The further they went, the darker it became, and a thicker gray fog spread around them. From within the fog, a muffled roar could be heard and was getting closer.
The two stopped in their tracks, both on edge.
"There's something in the fog." Xiao Cheng tried hard to pinpoint the direction of the sound. "It's circling around us."
"It doesn't look like an attack." Fang He frowned slightly, paused, and then said, "Continue forward and prepare."
They can't stay in one place forever because of an unknown monster.
The monster did not show itself; it seemed to be afraid of something, and simply followed them at a distance.
Time passed quite quickly here, and the two of them still hadn't gained anything, but the sun in the sky was beginning to show its outline.
"Continue?" Xiao Cheng looked around.
As the sunlight dispersed, the gray fog gradually thinned, and the mountain walls in the distance could be vaguely seen.
Then her vision became clearer and clearer, and her gaze suddenly sharpened as she stared at the giant lizard that was perched on the mountainside, seemingly blending into the background.
It seems that the monster we just saw was this thing.
Fortunately, no more resurrected corpses were seen around; it seems they were only piled up on the outer edges.
The fog completely dissipated, and the dazzling sunlight shone down, causing the ground to heat up rapidly.
Xiao Cheng felt like she was trapped in a steamer.
On the other side of the mountain wall, the lizard was clearly also unable to tolerate the temperature. It shook its huge tail impatiently and then turned around and climbed to a higher place on the mountain wall.
There was a raised stone platform that barely blocked the sunlight, casting a small, narrow shadow.
As the giant lizard moved away, small pebbles tumbled down, revealing a dark hole in the place that had been covered by its belly.
"How come there's a hole there?" Xiao Cheng's expression changed slightly as she recalled the place where the male merman had lived before.
Could there be another mini-boss?
Fang He pondered for a moment: "Let's go take a look. Since the guardian beasts have come out, if we're lucky, what we're looking for might be there."
Xiao Cheng was slightly skeptical of his words.
Given their past experiences, could their luck really be this outrageously good this time?
But this is, after all, the only clue they have right now.
“The lizard is too close over there, we need to split up.” Xiao Cheng gestured the route with his hand. “Here’s what we’ll do: I’ll lure the lizard away, and you can take the opportunity to go into the cave. No matter what’s inside, come out as soon as possible.”
Fang He glanced at the penetrating wound on her chest without making a sound, and did not respond immediately.
Xiao Cheng noticed his gaze and coughed awkwardly twice: "It's okay, it's not as serious as you think. To put it another way, it means that I'm the one who can do whatever I want and not die."
“Yes, you’re amazing.” Fang He nodded in agreement expressionlessly. “You’re immortal. You not only dance on the edge of a knife, but you also do a Thomas Flair.”
Xiao Cheng: "..."
Before she could try to explain herself further, Fang He continued, "Even if you don't die, you should still be careful. Don't leave the instance with missing limbs."
"No need to lead me too far. I'll go in and take a look, then come out and meet you as soon as possible."
The plan was somewhat rough around the edges, but they didn't have much time to waste now.
As they continue to lose moisture, they will only become weaker and weaker.
The two split up. Fang He deliberately chose areas where the lizards couldn't see, circling around to the other side and moving towards that side, hugging the mountain wall.
Xiao Cheng, on the other hand, recklessly rushed to the foot of the mountain wall, picked up a relatively solid stone, weighed it in his hand for a moment, then aimed at the lizard's half-open eyes, gathered his strength, and steadily threw the stone.
There was a muffled thud.
The lizard seemed to sense something and tilted its head slightly. The stone hit half of its cheek, and upon hitting its tough skin, it shattered into pieces in an instant.
However, it doesn't cause much harm, but it's extremely insulting.
The giant lizard let out an angry growl, and with a powerful push off the rock wall with its four short, pillar-like legs, it slammed its entire body down heavily towards Xiao Cheng.
Xiao Cheng looked at the four sunken holes, thought to himself "Damn it!" and turned to run without hesitation.
The lizard flicked its tongue, which was dripping with foul-smelling saliva, across the back of her head.
Xiao Cheng felt a chill run down her spine and instinctively rolled to the side.
Instantly, dirt and rocks flew up from its side, and the lizard's tongue flicked a deep crack in the ground, whipping up the rubble and flinging it sideways.
Meanwhile, Fang He also began to move the moment the lizard left. Under the scorching sun, he nimbly and swiftly climbed up the rock face.
Unlike the mountain walls at the entrance to hell, the rock walls here are lower and rougher, with large and small stones protruding all over the surface. Correspondingly, they are not too difficult to climb.
Fang He gripped the protruding rock, used his arms to pull his body upwards, and just as he was about to get close, he stomped his feet on the rock wall and leaped into the cave in the blink of an eye.
On Xiao Cheng's side, the giant lizard seemed to sense something and suddenly turned around to look at the rock wall, but all it could see were a few pieces of rubble that had rolled down silently.
