Chapter 13 Transforming Mucus

"I believe you won't let me down!"

After everyone received their items, the woman gave a few instructions and left, and the others gradually walked out of the passage.

Phil Gray and Lisa walked out of the red gate.

“These things must have been made by the Cult of Creation. I really admire them.” Lisa excitedly examined the bottle in her hand and handed the lamp to Phil Gray to take.

He reasonably suspected that the girl joined the apostates only for these things.

She recruited me as soon as we met so that I could get into headquarters sooner, right?

Phil Gray reluctantly accepted it. As far as he knew, the Church of Creation was a church composed of artisans, and their deity was Percy, the protector of artisans.

They invented many things, forcibly lighting up the technology tree in this world full of gods.

For example, this world also has trains, which were also invented by this group of craftsmen. They called them "trains" and they connected various cities and countries.

However, tickets for these "grand trains" were extremely expensive, and only nobles could afford to ride them.

They soon arrived at Lisa's house.

“Go back now. I’ll introduce you to the supervisor for work tomorrow. But it’s not usually very busy. Our kitchen will only need extra staff on the day of the city lord’s wedding, so we might only hire you for one day.” Lisa winked playfully and took the lamp from Phil Gray.

“Okay, thank you, Miss Lisa.” Phil Gray nodded.

Back home, Barry and the old woman were still fast asleep. He gently pushed open the door to the inner room, lay down on the bed, and immediately fell asleep.

The next afternoon, Lisa came to tell him that everything was in order, and he just needed to go to the city lord's mansion early the next morning. His task was to wait tables, and Lisa had secured him double the salary of others.

Phil Gray smiled and expressed his gratitude.

Everything is ready now, and we're just waiting for that day to come.

I hope that young master Grey really will come.

Soon it arrived that day was the city lord's daughter's wedding. Barry got up early and said that since it was Edith's wedding day, their farming team would have a day off and wouldn't have to harvest grain. He was going to watch the wedding.

Phil Gray was in the inner room. He took out the bottle of transformative slime that the apostates had given him, opened the cap, and found that it was indeed a viscous liquid inside.

He poured a third of it onto his hand and then smeared it all over his face, which felt like his face was covered in paste.

As soon as he finished applying the cream, he felt a burning sensation on his face. He hurriedly found a broken little mirror under the bed and saw his face contorting in the mirror. In a short while, it transformed into a completely different appearance.

The face in the mirror became an extremely ordinary, generic face, which looked very stiff and even somewhat frightening.

It looks like the face from a zombie movie I watched in a past life.

However, his eyes remained unchanged, looking somewhat awkward on his face.

Phil Gray tried to smile, but found that his face did not reflect the smile.

Looking at his short blond hair, he said happily, "Not bad, not bad. Even if Wendell stood in front of me, he probably wouldn't recognize me."

He pushed open the door and walked out. Barry saw him, his eyes wide, and yelled, "Who are you? Why are you wearing the clothes I gave Kane?"

Phil Gray smiled slightly, but Barry thought he had no expression on his face. "I am Kane, I'm just dressed up a little."

"Huh?" Hearing that it was indeed Kane's voice, he breathed a sigh of relief and asked, "Kane, why did you become like this? You're so ugly."

It's not that ugly, it's just an average face.

“There might be people I know at the city lord’s mansion today, and I’m afraid they’ll ask me for money,” Phil Gray fabricated.

"Oh, okay."

“I’m off, I have to get to work,” Phil Gray said, waving to Barry.

“Okay, I’ll go see the wedding after I finish cooking for my mom.” Barry’s honest face lit up with excitement.

The city's layout is similar to that of North City. The upper district is home to many noble families, the middle district, also known as the main district, is mainly inhabited by members of the Papacy, while the lower district is inhabited by commoners. The lower district also contains some dilapidated houses left over from before the city's reconstruction, where even poorer people live. Barry's home is located here.

The city lord's mansion is naturally located in the upper city.

Although they were in the same city, they were still quite far apart, so Phil Gray hired a horse-drawn carriage at the street corner.

The money was borrowed from Lisa. In this world, money is divided into copper coins, silver coins, and gold coins.

Although it was early morning, there were already many people on the road.

There were hurried pedestrians, vendors selling their wares, and many shops had already opened.

Phil Gray has never truly experienced the local customs and culture or seen the sights of this world since he came into it, and he feels a little regretful about this.

A person who loved adventure and travel in his past life and was used to the feeling of freedom, but after coming to this world, although he became the Pope, he was restricted in every way.

There was always a chance, and Phil Gray got into the carriage.

The carriages available for rent by ordinary people at the alley entrance were naturally not as comfortable as the Pope's carriage, but they were still sufficient for traveling.

It took Phil Gray almost an hour to arrive at the city lord's mansion.

The gate was guarded by men in golden armor, who looked very imposing.

He followed Lisa's directions and went to the side door, which was open, and several people entered one after another.

A man in his forties was standing in the doorway. Phil Gray said, "I'm the temporary kitchen helper today."

"What's your name? Who recommended you?" the man asked.

"My name is Kane, recommended by Lisa."

"Go in, walk straight until you reach the end, then turn left. The kitchen is behind that."

"good."

The security at the City Lord's Mansion is really lax. If it's this loose, what if someone with ill intentions comes along? They could easily cause trouble.

Phil Gray shook his head.

Phil Gray went into the kitchen, where a man who looked like a supervisor came over and bombarded him with questions, "Who are you? What do you do?"

"Kane, Lisa recommended him to be a waiter."

The man's eyes widened as he looked him up and down. "That's not right. Didn't Lisa say she found a particularly handsome helper, that he would be a pleasure to watch when serving food to guests, and that he would bring honor to the city lord's mansion? She even asked me for double the salary."

"Is she referring to your appearance?"

The supervisor looked doubtful.

She called out into the kitchen, "Lisa, come here."

Phil Gray suppressed a laugh, his face remaining stiff and looking quite strange.

Lisa jogged over at the sound of his voice, clearly surprised to see him. Fortunately, she recognized his hairstyle and clothes, but still asked uncertainly, "Kane?"

“Hmm.” Phil Gray nodded.

"Is he the handsome helper you mentioned?"

"Oh, yes, isn't he handsome?" Lisa smiled awkwardly.

The supervisor looked at him like he was an idiot, but still said helplessly, "Fine, fine, go and teach him the tasks for today."

"Okay, okay."

After the supervisor left, Lisa glared at him and asked in a low voice, "Why are you using the color-changing mucus at this time?"

"Of course, this is the time to use it," Phil Gray thought.

"Don't listen to the leader completely. With our limited abilities, if we cause trouble for the Vatican, we definitely won't be able to escape. She just wants us to be cannon fodder," Lisa said earnestly.

It seems she misunderstood that she had disguised herself to cause trouble.
