Chapter 78 Fate's Choice

Phil Gray then realized that it was no wonder George disdained to inherit the dukedom, and no wonder that in the scene he saw through the Eye of Fate, George would ascend the throne.

Although he used extremely cruel and despicable means, ignoring those ethical considerations, he was indeed the most qualified to sit on the throne.

The king stood frozen in place, looking dazed. He stumbled toward the throne, leaving everyone with only his back turned.

“No, Father, Father, save me!” George cried out, and everyone knew he was calling out to the King.

"Shut up!"

The king turned around, his eyes red, whether from anger or sorrow, it was hard to tell.

However, having been king for over twenty years, he had long since developed a heart of stone. Family ties and blood relations could not compare to the power of the throne, let alone an unexpected son.

In any case, it is unwise to oppose the church.

Thinking of this, his mood calmed down a bit, and he looked at the two elders of His Highness, "I apologize for making you both laugh. I will not protect any criminal, even if that person is my own son."

“Brother, how could you…” Sani looked at the king sadly, her hand tightly holding her son’s.

George, on the other hand, was utterly devastated; his last lifeline had vanished.

“We admire your impartiality, and may the light of the Prophet of the Day forever protect you,” Glenn said, offering some solace to the king who had just suffered a great loss of face.

He summoned the guards and solemnly ordered them to take George away and conduct a public trial as previously instructed.

Of course, he repeatedly instructed the guards to keep it strictly confidential.

Princess Sani followed, crying and wailing all the way, but it was unlikely that she would be able to rescue George.

Phil Gray finally felt a sense of relief.

However, looking at Ernest's slightly trembling body behind him, he felt it necessary to help him resolve his doubts.

"Duke of Surrey, I would like to ask you why you admitted that George was your illegitimate son? The only people involved in that matter were the princess, His Majesty the King, and Pope Darcy, who was probably completely unaware of the truth. So why did you get involved?"

Phil Gray walked up to the Duke of Surrey and asked.

The aged-looking duke was still wiping away tears, seemingly overwhelmed with guilt towards his wife and children.

Ernest's gaze also fell upon him without him noticing. Although he was wearing a mask, Phil Gray could sense the extremely complex and distorted expression on his face.

Upon hearing this question, the Duke of Sari replied in a trembling voice, "Princess Sani and I share similar names and practically grew up together. I consider her my own sister. After she discovered she was pregnant, she came to me crying and begged me to help her. She said I couldn't tell her brother, otherwise not only would the King find out about her drugging the Pope of Fate, but it would also expose a scandal within the royal family..."

"But didn't you consider how your wife would feel if she heard about this?" Phil Gray questioned.

“I…I was going to tell her, but she’s pregnant, and I didn’t want her to worry or get angry. Who would have thought…” Duke Sari squatted down on the ground.

"Who would have thought that she overheard the news of your illegitimate child with the princess while giving birth, died in childbirth, leaving behind only a daughter, and your son left this place because of it, never to be seen again?" Phil Gray asked speculatively.

The Duke of Surrey did not answer, but sobbed softly; it seemed that this was the truth of the matter.

Therefore, even after Ernest was expelled from the Church of Fate, he did not intend to return to the Duke's mansion.

“I am a failed husband and father. My wife is dead, and my son left me when he was just over ten years old. I heard that he became a Knight of Destiny after many twists and turns, but was banished more than ten years ago. I have been searching for him. I really want to say sorry to him!” After a long silence, Duke Sari stood up and said slowly.

Ernest seemed to have reached his limit and walked straight out of the palace.

However, the king did not notice his rudeness. He just sat on the throne with a frown, lost in thought, not saying a word.

Patrick watched his companion leave, clutching Lalafell Gray's sleeve, and whispered, "What do we do now?"

“Let him calm down first,” Eli replied first.

Phil Gray nodded.

The two elders were clearly not concerned with these matters; they were only concerned with whether George would be tried in public that afternoon.

"Elders, you must be tired from your journey. Please go and rest," the king said wearily, looking at them still standing there.

They walked out of the palace one after the other, along with the Duke of Surrey.

Elder Glenn seemed to be in a good mood. After George died in the afternoon, he could take the newly found Holy Son back to the church. I wonder if that old Pope will be overjoyed?

Stepping out of the palace, Ernest stood outside, his face much calmer, as if he had accepted everything.

When he saw the aged and sorrowful Duke of Surrey walking out with his cane, he was reminded of the happy days of his childhood.

He taught me how to use a sword step by step, and I was so happy when I defeated him for the first time. But now, everything has changed.

Fate is truly cruel.

But how could he, a believer in the god of fate, blame fate?

Phil Gray pursed his lips, looking at the bewildered Ernest. "Now that you know the truth, the choice of your future is in your hands. What will you choose?"

Ernest paused for a moment, then smiled with a hint of relief. "I think I'll forgive him this once."
