“Well, I thought you might have some clues.” Phil Gray said, somewhat disappointed.
"Cousin, what's our next step?"
"We need to find Eli. He must have a way of surviving at sea. Our destination has always been Malu Island, and he should be going there too."
Phil Gray glanced at the busy pirates. "Are you going to sea again after you've finished dealing with the plantation business?"
“No, cousin, I want to complete the mission the gods gave me on this island, to let more people who resent the injustice of fate feel the blessings of destiny, and to let the light of the gods spread across this island. So Edith will stay with me on this island for a while longer.” Patrick’s gaze was firm; he had already planned to complete the Proverb here and advance to the Attention level.
“You’ve grown up.” Phil Gray ruffled his fluffy hair, his touch a little rusty.
“Cousin, I plan to go to the Eastern Continent to find you after I advance to the Observer level. You know, I don’t want to be a burden to you.”
“No way, but you could stay and spend more time with Edith, otherwise I’m afraid she’ll end up like the last Miss Edith…” Phil Gray joked with a smile, which drew an unpleasant look from Patrick.
“Alright, cousin, I’ll go tell Colin and the others. They’re very good at finding people. They know a lot of the locals and are very familiar with the waters around here. They’ll definitely be able to find Eli!” Patrick said seriously.
“Okay, you go ahead and get busy. I’m going to take a walk around here.” Phil Gray nodded.
“Okay.” Patrick suppressed the affection in his eyes, his gaze hardening as he strode toward the pirates.
...
Phil Gray, of course, hadn't forgotten that he still had something to deal with. He walked out of the plantation and saw some barefoot slaves carrying bundles peering out the door. Their faces showed undisguised joy, and of course, confusion.
Hopefully, they will achieve true freedom in the future.
Phil Gray hadn't gone far when he heard two voices calling out incessantly. He smirked. "How's it going for you two up in the tree? Have you seen any unusual scenery?"
"You wretched bastard! Put us down right now, or when they come, they'll lock you in the plantation's cellar and torture you to death!"
The fat man shouted breathlessly; his enormous size bent the branches of the tree.
"who are they?"
"Of course, it's Jonas's slave owners!"
“That’s really unfortunate; there won’t be any Jonas Plantation left.” Phil Gray chuckled and shook his head, walking toward the girl, ignoring their frantic shouts.
He parted the weeds; the girl was still asleep.
Her eyes were tightly closed, her thin, sallow cheeks suggested malnutrition, her tattered clothes were ill-fitting, and her feet were blistered and scabbed over, but still wet with fresh blood.
She's probably a slave from Jonas Plantation. Bring her to the estate and let the pirates give her some food and money.
Just as he thought of this, he saw the girl's body move slightly.
Is she about to wake up?
"Little girl, wake up!"
She woke up, sat bolt upright, her eyes filled with terror, and kept backing away. "Who are you? I don't want to go back to the plantation!"
Phil Gray said gently, “Don’t worry, Jonas Plantation has been taken over by pirates. Those pirates will provide the slaves with some supplies so that they can return to their original places. You are also a slave on the plantation, right? Come with me.”
He reached out his hand, wanting to help the little girl up.
To everyone's surprise, the little girl continued to back away, shrinking into a ball.
"Don't worry, I'm not a bad guy. Those two guys who grabbed you have been hung up in a tree by me. Listen!"
The man's shouts could be faintly heard from the tree. The little girl looked in that direction and, sure enough, saw the villain hanging from the tree.
A flash of hatred crossed her eyes, but she finally trusted Phil Gray again, stood up, and looked at him timidly.
“Let’s go to the plantation, we’ll find someone to take you home,” Phil Gray said with a smile.
To everyone's surprise, the little girl shook her head. "No, my home is in a village not far away. I want to go back."
"Oh?" The only village around here is the one he came from. Could it be that this little girl was also sold by that despicable village chief?
Phil Gray regretted that he hadn't tormented the village chief enough to let him die easily.
“Okay, I’ll take you home. By the way, do you know a little boy named Harvey? He asked me to find his sister.” Phil Gray then remembered the little boy’s request. If his sister was still alive, she should be among those slaves and on her way home. Hopefully, Harvey would be happy to see his sister.
“Harvey? I, I’m his sister! How is he? Did that demon hurt him?” The little girl suddenly became agitated, filled with worry and fear.
"What?" Phil Gray hadn't expected that the little girl in front of him was Harvey's sister. After all, his brother-in-law looked to be over thirty, while the little girl looked like a minor.
"He's alright, he's waiting for you to come home. Your village chief also passed away accidentally, so no one will hurt you anymore. As for the demon you mentioned, he's your... well, your husband?"
“Yes, he’s a devil!” the little girl said angrily, then looked straight at Phil Gray. “This devil killed my parents, took over my house, and bullied me and my brother. Big brother, do you think he might one day die accidentally like the village chief?”
His clear eyes were filled with hatred, yet also revealed pleading and sincerity.
Oh, she figured it out. She must have guessed that she killed the village chief herself. The little girl is quite clever.
Phil Gray nodded. "Of course, fate tells me he won't live past tonight."
The little girl suddenly knelt down, looking devoutly at the stranger before her, "Praise be to fate!"
Phil Gray helped her up, then took out some clothes from the Death Stone's storage space, tore them into strips, and used them to wrap her bleeding feet. "Shall I carry you back?"
"No, there's no need to trouble you!" The little girl shook her head repeatedly. "I'm used to it. You might not even be as fast as me!"
She jumped up, flashing a bright smile, "Let's go!"
When the little girl was taken back to the village, the villagers were overjoyed to learn that the plantation had been destroyed and the village chief had died. They all wanted to give Phil Gray a great welcome.
However, he refused. These villagers were already poor, so why add another meal to their burden?
