Chapter 103 The Ritual of Fate

“We do have many unsatisfactory things, and it would be wonderful if we could get your help!” Eli said excitedly, his trembling hands even spilling a lot of the wine in his glass.

Fake Phil said with utmost kindness, “Sometimes fate does not necessarily move in a certain direction. In fact, the gods have pointed out many directions for us. Rather than saying that the gods decide our fate, it is more accurate to say that we choose our own fate. As a favored one of the gods of fate, I can sometimes see the results that these directions lead to. And if I tell you which directions to choose, you can avoid some bad consequences.”

As he spoke, he took out a jade pendant. Phil Gray examined it closely and saw that it was engraved with some exquisite patterns, such as intertwined flowers of destiny and a person bound by chains on three ripples, symbolizing the shackles that the River of Destiny and the power of destiny have placed on mankind.

"Who wants to go first?" Fake Phil asked.

Phil Gray pondered: Was this his skill? Or was this pendulum a treasure? And what was his purpose in impersonating him to help a stranger?

Phil Gray really couldn't see this person clearly.

"Me!" Caroline had been eager to expose the conman's identity, but she lacked direct evidence and had to cooperate with Phil Gray's team. So when she heard the conman's question, she couldn't hold back any longer.

“Miss Caroline, do you have some difficult decision to make? Or do you wish to have some divine guidance to avoid future troubles?” Fake Phil seemed unconcerned about Caroline’s dissatisfaction with him and asked sincerely.

“Hmm…” Caroline was at a loss. Her life seemed to have always been going well, without any difficulties, and she didn’t feel that her fate had hit a low point. She could only ask casually, “I want to know when my god will give me the words of wisdom to reach the next stage.”

Fake Phil nodded, indicating that he understood. He stretched out his arm, brought the pendulum close to Miss Caroline, released white divine power of fate from his fingertips, and then closed his eyes.

The pendulum began to swing on its own, and the white divine power emitted a soft light through the clear, unknown material. The pendulum, suspended in the air, rotated clockwise and counterclockwise for a while before slowly coming to a stop after about half a minute.

Fake Phil opened his eyes, but the smile on his face was gone, replaced by a worried expression.

Although Caroline knew he was impersonating the Pope, his status as a chosen one of the gods of fate was undeniable. His solemn expression made her heart flutter with unease. "What's wrong? I just wanted to know when my god would grant me the Proverb of the Eye of the Proverb. Why do you look so worried?"

As he spoke, he clenched his fist, and his entire aura shifted to a defensive stance with a hint of aggression.

Fake Phil shook his head. "Miss Caroline, I do see several directions for your future. You are a chosen one of the Prophet of the Day, aren't you?"

“Yes.” Caroline nodded, but she was somewhat certain of his abilities. After all, the power of the Day Prophet was not as easy to identify as life and wisdom, and she had not mentioned it to him, yet he already knew.

Fake Phil continued, “You will soon receive the prophecy of the daytime prophet, but this will lead you to an extremely dangerous situation, the worst outcome of which is death, and you have only a one in ten chance of avoiding this dangerous consequence.”

"Huh?" Caroline gasped softly upon hearing this, seemingly surprised by the news. She asked with a hint of disbelief, "How can I avoid such consequences? And what is that one in ten chance?"

Fake Phil sighed and said, “In the scriptures of our Church of Destiny, it is mentioned that destiny has three elements. The first element is ‘fate,’ which is a person’s innate endowment. For example, some people are nobles, some are commoners, some are ordinary people, and some can become the favored ones of the gods. The second element is ‘fortune,’ which is the experience after birth. It usually presents itself as a winding river, the river of destiny. It starts from the starting point of ‘fate,’ rises and falls, and no one can be in a straight line. Therefore, the river of destiny has many tributaries, flowing towards different results. The third element is ‘probability,’ which can be understood as the probability of certain fateful events occurring. By changing the ‘probability,’ one can reduce the occurrence of some unfavorable events. To put it more figuratively, it is to widen the tributaries of good fortune, so that your river of destiny can flow in the direction of good fortune, rather than falling into a trough or even heading towards a dead end.”

After hearing this explanation, Caroline nodded as if she understood. "So this one-in-ten probability can be increased?"

“Yes, I just briefly looked at your future destiny through the pendulum, but to get more accurate information or change your destiny, I need to set up a very complicated ritual. Through the ritual, you can receive some instructions from the gods to help you make the right choice at the critical moment when your destiny diverges.” Fake Phil sighed.

"Why is it so troublesome? Can you do it?" Caroline asked anxiously, seemingly already completely believing him.

Phil Gray pondered what he had said. He seemed to have heard of the three elements of destiny before, but he didn't understand them thoroughly. Ultimately, it was because he hadn't systematically studied the theory of the Chosen Ones.

However, it seems that this fake Phil has some skills.

“I can set up this ceremony on the ship, but I’m missing some necessary materials. If I were still in the Vatican, these materials would be readily available, but I’m traveling and didn’t bring them with me,” Fake Phil said with a frown and some regret.

"What materials are needed?" Eli asked with a smile, then pointed upwards. "Isn't our Gold Coin III supposed to be able to get any resource as long as we have gold coins?"

"Oh? Setting up this ritual requires one hundred blue crystals with a purity of 99% or higher, 50 grams of powder made from pearls formed from the tears of deep-sea mermaids, the spirit fire of a commander-level skeleton undead, and one crystal of the light of dawn. As for the last item, this young lady should already have it, right?" Fake Phil listed the materials one by one, each one extremely precious.

Caroline's lips twitched. She felt that her life wasn't worth these precious materials, and she strongly suspected that his purpose was to swindle money. However, upon hearing the last sentence, she unconsciously believed the fake Phil's words a little more, because there was indeed a crystal of Dawn Light in her space stone!
