Chapter 528 Harvesting Ahead of Schedule

After hanging up the phone, Shen Yanming went to discuss the matter with his wife.

After hearing this, Bi Qiaoan only said that she wanted to go back to Qingyu Community with him, but Shen Yanming wouldn't allow it, and his excuses were still the same, without any change.

Left with no other option, Bi Qiaoan had to compromise, but she still asked, "When are you going back? How long will it take?"

Shen Yanming chuckled after hearing this, "What, are you afraid I won't come back?"

Bi Qiaoan glared at him, "Get lost, where else could you go if you didn't come back?"

“Yes, home is where you are. I’ll definitely be back as soon as possible.” Shen Yanming smiled. “Don’t worry, I’ll just go back to harvest the wheat. I’ll be back after sunset and back before sunrise. I promise you’ll see me every night before you go to sleep and every morning after you wake up.”

Hearing this, Bi Qiaoan felt a strange sweetness. She said shyly, "Isn't that the same as you never leaving?"

Shen Yanming nodded, "Yes, that's why there's no need for you to suffer along with me."

"Okay, then take it easy when you're working. Do less each day, even if it takes longer, but don't overwork your body," Bi Qiaoan advised.

"I understand!" Shen Yanming wanted to hug his wife, but then he remembered his abscess and awkwardly withdrew his hand.

After discussing it, the couple didn't take immediate action. Shen Yanming, being a kind-hearted person, privately told Zhu Shiliang and a few others about it.

The group was shocked to hear this, but no one doubted the truth of Old Shen's words. One by one, they hurriedly asked the team for leave, saying that staying in the dormitory every day was boring and they wanted to go home to visit their families.

The guards were quite accommodating; considering they were all fine, they granted them leave. However, the leave periods were short, as everyone had responsibilities to bear.

Take Zhu Shiliang, the secretary, for example. You never know when he'll need to relay instructions from above. And then there's Chen Qing, the warehouse manager, who can only go home during his shift breaks; the rest of the time he has to work.

However, considering the current special circumstances, the leaders adjusted the working hours for the warehouse staff. They now work shifts in the dark every day to minimize their exposure to sunlight. They even provided them with beds or tents in the warehouse.

In short, the goal is to ensure warehouse security while maximizing work comfort. It's quite a humane approach, actually.

They were all quite shrewd; after hearing the rumors, they didn't spread them around.

When they got home and told their families about the situation, they went to the field at night to investigate. They found that it was exactly as Shen Yanming had described, and they all made a decisive decision to harvest ahead of schedule.

After strolling around and returning home, Shen Yanming and Qiao An entered the spatial dimension. They searched through the storage area for a long time before finally managing to find a few dozen woven bags.

There was no way around it; when we were collecting supplies back then, we were trying to get the most high-end and sophisticated items, and we didn't think about these most practical and ordinary things at all.

All the storage items I prepared were storage boxes and cardboard boxes; I didn't even think about preparing burlap sacks or woven bags.

When we actually needed it, we were completely lost. It was only after Joan suggested that we free up some of the grain they had purchased in Austria that we managed to get these dozens of woven bags.

Of course, you could make more, but there's no need for that.

Bi Qiaoan glanced at the time; it was already 11 p.m. She asked Shen Yanming, "Are you going back today, or in a couple more days?"

Shen Yanming thought for a moment and said, "Let's go back and check today. I'll tell Zhu Shiliang and the others about this tonight. I'm afraid the news won't stay hidden for long, so it's better to get the wheat back as soon as possible to put our minds at ease."

Bi Qiaoan felt helpless, "Actually, we don't lack these things."

"We may not be short of food, but others are. We still need to maintain appearances. Otherwise, if all the grain is taken away and you're still eating well and plump, wouldn't that be an obvious sign that there's something wrong with our family?" Shen Yanming laughed.

Bi Qiaoan certainly understood these principles, but he felt a little sorry for the fact that he had to harvest all four acres of land at home by himself.

He didn't say anything before because I was helping him. But this year, he's all alone.

But that's just how things are, so we can only let it be.

“Then be careful,” Bi Qiaoan said.

Shen Yanming hummed in agreement. "You go to sleep first. I'll leave after you fall asleep."

"No need, I'm not sleepy right now, and I don't know when I'll be able to fall asleep. The sooner you go and come back, the more at ease I'll feel."

Shen Yanming thought for a moment and then agreed. "Then go to sleep when you're tired, but don't stay up late. I'll be back when it's light."

"Okay!"

Shen Yanming nodded, grabbed the dozens of woven bags, and left the space. Bi Qiaoan wandered around the storage area, found some snacks she could eat, and then returned to the mobile villa.

Old Shen led us in, and we appeared directly in the storage area. Now, to get back to the mobile villa, we have to walk a long way.

She does know how to ride a small electric scooter, but since she wasn't sleepy anyway, she figured she might as well walk around and take a stroll.

We kept stopping and starting along the way, and the little cake in my hand was gone as soon as I started eating it.

When I got back to the mobile villa, I felt a little tired. After washing up, I checked on my two little ones and, seeing that they showed no signs of waking up, I lay down and soon drifted off to sleep.

Meanwhile, Shen Yanming drove out of the guard station and began speeding through the quiet night.

However, he still kept his speed under control, staying within the prescribed limits. It was only because there were no people or cars on the street that his speed seemed particularly fast.

There was no traffic jam or traffic lights, and we quickly returned to Qingyu Residential Area. Although the gate was automatic, the security guard on duty still came out to check since it was late at night.

Shen Yanming got out of the car and greeted the other person. Although he couldn't remember the name, the person looked familiar.

The security guard clearly recognized Shen Yanming. He rubbed his eyes and asked, "Mr. Shen, why are you back so late at night? Is something the matter?"

Shen Yanming didn't hide anything, "I spoke with your Captain Chen on the phone during the day. He said he'd be back to harvest wheat soon. I was originally planning to wait a couple of days, but after thinking it over, I felt more at ease once it was in hand. So, here I am."

"So early?" Shen Yanming's answer surprised the security guard.

"It's alright, it's almost time to harvest. But harvesting now will reduce production. But no matter what, it's better than leaving it out to be targeted by thieves," Shen Yanming explained.

"Oh, okay!" The young security guard nodded. Although he didn't understand, he had no intention of going against the homeowner. However, he still said, "Actually, our security team patrols every night."

Shen Yanming smiled and said, "I know you guys are great. But if I harvest the wheat, your work will be a little easier, won't it?"

Worried that the other party might misunderstand and think that he was dissatisfied with their work, Shen Yanming quickly took out a handful of candy from his pocket and handed it to them.
