Chapter 529 Agreement Reached

“My friend and I have a total of four mu of land, and I’m the only one with labor power. As we harvest, the wheat ripens.” Shen Yanming said.

The security guard thought about it and agreed. He smiled and took the candy, saying, "Do you need help? I can come when I'm not on duty."

Shen Yanming shook his head, "You have work to do and fields to take care of, so it's not easy for you. I'll take it slow, and I'll finish by harvesting a little each day."

Hearing him say that, the security guard didn't insist. After all, he was only vaguely familiar with him, far less so than Chen Shunwei.

He nodded: "Then you can call me anytime if you need anything, or I can pass on the message to our captain."

Shen Yanming couldn't help but laugh. This kid was really messing with the captain! But he still said, "Okay, I'll head over now. Don't misunderstand if you see a figure in the video later."

The security guard nodded. "Okay, I understand. You're busy!"

Shen Yanming turned around, got into the car, and sped off to the foot of Qingning Mountain. He pulled out a few woven bags from the car, rolled them up, and headed up the mountain with them.

The night was deep, and Qingning Mountain was quiet. Apart from a few streetlights, there was no other light source.

Using his eyesight and the dim light, Shen Yanming made his way to his own field.

I don't know if it was because the thieves were almost caught, so they started to behave themselves. Apart from the chirping of insects, I didn't hear any other noises along the way.

Shen Yanming unlocked the gate of his barbed wire fence, looked at the wheat seedlings that were only knee-high in the ground, and smiled with satisfaction.

He bent down and gently pinched the wheat ears with his hands, but the sharp awns almost pierced his fingers.

Shen Yanming winced in pain and immediately withdrew his hand.

After a while, I avoided the awns and pinched the wheat ears with my fingertips. This time I didn't get poked and could feel the plump grains inside the hard shell.

Shen Yanming took off his backpack, took out a flashlight and tied it around his waist, then took out white cotton gloves and put them on. He then rummaged through the nooks and crannies to find the farm tools he had hidden, and was ready to get to work.

With the help of the flashlight, Shen Yanming could clearly see that there was not a trace of rust on the sickle.

He couldn't help but marvel at how lazy he had been, leaving his tools lying on the ground untouched, yet they remained shiny and new after all this time. He wondered if some other metal had been added to them.

Of course, he only thought about it briefly. With such a large plot of land needing harvesting, he didn't have time for all that fussing over.

Shen Yanming bent down, grabbing an ear of wheat with one hand and wielding a sickle with the other. With a strong pull at the base of the wheat, the ear of wheat came off, though it was still attached to a long stalk.

He grabbed a large handful of straw until he couldn't hold any more, then bundled the straw in his hands into a bundle and piled it up beside him.

And so, Shen Yanming continued his work, gradually flattening the wheat in front of him.

Half an hour later, his back and legs ached so much that he felt like he could barely stand up. He plopped down on the ground, panting heavily.

Although he trained with the guard every day, he was still not used to farm work. It hadn't been long, and he already wanted to give up. He vividly remembered how heartbroken he and his wife were during the corn harvest last year.

In today's era of agricultural mechanization, very few people harvest wheat by hand anymore. It's only when they chose to plant their land in a residential area that they felt a pang of envy and resentment, watching others use machines while they had to rely on manual labor.

However, precisely because the land here is within the community, planting and harvesting are only a few steps away, and there are security guards watching over it, they have much less to worry about and don't have to run to the suburbs every few days.

Those who choose to locate their farmland in the suburbs can indeed afford to use machines to do most of the farm work by spending some money or grain, but they live in constant fear that someone will steal their grain.

So, it really does have its advantages and disadvantages.

Before he had even rested for five minutes, Shen Yanming wiped the sweat from his forehead and continued working. The sunrise these days was unpredictable; it would get light before four o'clock, leaving him with very little time.

Shen Yanming worked for more than an hour. Seeing that it was getting late, he quickly stopped what he was doing, picked up the pile of wheat stalks, stuffed the end with the ears into the woven bag, and then used a sickle to cut off the remaining straw.

Although doing this would miss a lot of wheat ears and leave some wheat stalks behind, time was of the essence, and there was no time to worry about meticulous work.

After he packed all the harvested wheat into woven bags, he prepared to leave. But there were several bags left in the field, and he couldn't carry them all back at once.

So they transported them down the mountain in trip after trip.

Fortunately, I had done some strength training beforehand, so I carried a bag of wheat in each hand. Although it felt a bit heavy, it wasn't too heavy to lift.

After several trips back and forth, Shen Yanming finally managed to carry all the woven bags back to the car, filling the trunk and the back seats.

Before his last trip down the mountain, he put the sickle, hoe, and other tools back in the same corner. To avoid being noticed, Shen Yanming covered them with a thick layer of wheat straw.

Looking at the abruptly exposed golden hill, Shen Yanming felt a sense of unease, as if something was amiss. However, seeing the barbed wire surrounding it, he suppressed his discomfort.

He didn't go upstairs to go home; he drove straight back to the Hai City Guard Station. However, while he was on the road, it got light, and sunlight streamed through the glass, shining directly onto his face. Now, he's going to get another boil.

Fortunately, he had protected his arms because he had to do farm work. But even wearing long sleeves couldn't cover his hands.

After finishing his work, Shen Yanming took off his gloves. After all, it was the middle of summer, and wearing gloves would only make his hands sweat more.

Although I was very unhappy, I could only helplessly accept this reality. At worst, I could soak my hands in the spiritual spring water when I got back.

cough!

Half an hour later, Shen Yanming returned to the guard team. He hesitated for a moment, then decided to break his promise and drive to the agricultural area.

The security guard on duty at the gate remembered what he looked like. After briefly checking his identification, he took him to find the person in charge.

Shen Yanming didn't beat around the bush and clearly stated his purpose for coming.

Ye Wengui raised an eyebrow and smiled, "That's possible, but the guard team will charge a 10% service fee."

Shen Yanming nodded. "I've only harvested a portion; most of it is still in the field. Can I leave the harvested wheat here for now, and deliver the rest after the harvest tomorrow or the day after?"

Ye Wengui smiled and said, "Okay, today we'll thresh and weigh the wheat you brought, and then dry it here. You can come back to pick it up after it's completely dry and ground into flour."

Shen Yanming had no objection to this. After completing the formalities, he and Ye Wengui drove the car to the processing plant. With the help of the young soldiers, they unloaded the woven bags from the car and carried them to the vicinity of the threshing machine.

Then turn on the switch and pour the wheat ears into the threshing machine. With a series of gurgling sounds, the wheat stalks and grains come out.
